Running Back

*** Saturday Update *** RB T.J. Duckett (ATL) has been downgraded to doubtful for week seven and is not expected to play.

*** Saturday Update *** RB Marion Barber III (DAL) has been getting a good deal of first team reps in practice this week. While we hesitate to guess at what HC Bill Parcells will do, Barber’s workload during the week indicates that he might line up as the team’s starting RB with Julius Jones still sidelined.

*** Saturday Update *** RB Julius Jones (DAL) did not travel with the team and is out for Sunday according to www.cowboysplus.com.

*** Saturday Update *** RB Ahman Green (GB) is expected to start Sunday.

*** Saturday Update *** RB Ryan Moats (PHI) is slated to be active for the first time this season and will be the team’s kick returner.

Wide Receiver

*** Saturday Update *** WR Roy Williams (DET) will not play in week seven. Mike Williams and Kevin Johnson will start for the team.

*** Saturday Update *** WR Nate Burleson (MIN) will be on a limited play count this weekend. He will play, but HC Mike Tice says Burleson isn’t ready to play a full game. "I think he's going to have to pace himself a little bit. Get himself a good spurt of plays, and then take himself out and let the pain go away, and then go back in. I think that's how he's going to have to handle it."

*** Saturday Update *** WR Randy Moss (OAK) will supposedly be a game-time decision for week seven. Moss did some light running at Friday’s practice, and HC Norv Turner was encouraged. "There's still a chance he'll play. I'm encouraged by some of the things he did today (Friday). We'll see where he's at tomorrow (Saturday) and again Sunday," said Turner. Note that this could all be posturing on Turner’s part. We're very cautious here. Moss owners from last year will remember the games where he made a token appearance while returning from injury and was totally ineffective.

*** Saturday Update *** WR Isaac Bruce (STL) has been downgraded to out and will not play according to Nick Wagoner of www.stlouisrams.com.

*** Saturday Update *** WR Torry Holt (STL) has been downgraded to questionable. Here's what Rams Insider Nick Wagoner wrote today on www.stlouisrams.com: "Perhaps more worrisome is the downgrade of Torry Holt from probable to questionable because of a knee injury. Holt played last week after being listed as questionable all week. He said he felt fine in the early part of that game, but the knee started to get sore as the game wore on. Holt will probably still go on Sunday, but everyone would prefer that the knee gets better instead of worse considering he didn't do much of anything in practice this week."

All the news

Quarterback

*** Friday Update *** QB Josh McCown (ARI) has not been officially named the QB for this week but we expect him to start over Kurt Warner.

*** Wednesday Update *** QB Josh McCown (ARI) and Kurt Warner both practiced on Wednesday. HC Denny Green has decided who will start at quarterback in week seven, but won't make his choice public until shortly before kickoff. "We basically take the position this week the more we know, the better for us it is, and the less that Tennessee knows, the better it is for us," Green said.

QB Josh McCown (ARI) or Kurt Warner will start in week seven, but HC Denny Green isn’t naming either name just yet. Both QBs took snaps with the Cardinals' first-team offense Monday, and Green said he won't name Sunday's starting quarterback until later this week. Green, who said he didn't want to tip his hand to his opponent, likely won't make a public announcement until just before week seven’s game against the Titans. Warner “has made great strides, and we'll determine at a later date if that stride is enough for him to be the starting quarterback or if Josh McCown will continue to start,” Green said.

*** Wednesday Update *** QB Kyle Boller (BAL) will not play in week seven, but he could be ready to return in a couple of weeks.

QB Jake Delhomme (CAR) was shaken up and dazed in Sunday's game and replaced by Chris Weinke who played well. Coach John Fox was crystal clear that Delhomme is the starter this week though.

QB Jake Plummer (DEN) may not win the league MVP, but he is dating her.

*** Saturday Update *** QB Jeff Garcia (DET) is very close to getting the start according to the buzz out of Detroit. It's an early game Sunday so we'll have the official word for you on the Sunday Update online.

*** Friday Update *** QB Jeff Garcia (DET) says he is ready to play, but HC Steve Mariucci has not made a decision on whether Garcia or Joey Harrington will start in week seven. His health is the big concern. Said coach Mariucci, “That (health) is the issue. That is one of the main things. As you know, after Wednesday’s practice, which was the most activity he had in a long time, he felt good. He moved around okay. The next day he was sore, which was expected. Today he moved around even more. I wanted him to have an accumulative affect on his leg to see what kind of response he would have for this activity. After three practices, does it get progressively more sore or does it freshen back up? That is why we are working through this. He had a pretty good day today. Some of the soreness was out, it is not completely out – we know that. We are just going to have to think through it.”

*** Thursday Update *** QB Jeff Garcia (DET) split snaps again with Joey Harrington. Coach Steve Mariucci may wait up till game time to make a decision on the starter for this week.

*** Wednesday Update *** QB Jeff Garcia (DET) has been cleared by doctors to play and split first team snaps with Joey Harrington in Wednesday’s practice. HC Steve Mariucci has not committed to a change at QB, but he has not committed to sticking with Harrington either. His strongest words came Monday when he said, “Today Harrington is our start for Sunday.”

*** Saturday Update *** QB Joey Harrington (DET) could be on the bench Sunday. Jeff Garcia is very close to getting the start according to the buzz out of Detroit. It's an early game Sunday so we'll have the official word for you on the Sunday Update online.

*** Thursday Update *** QB Joey Harrington (DET) and Jeff Garcia split practice reps again on Thursday, but there his been no announcement regarding which of them will start against the Browns. Coach Mariucci said he does not have a time frame on when he'll make a decision. When asked if he saw anything in practice that would make him lean one direction. He answered, “No. They both shared the reps like they have been all week. Both are getting ready to play. I feel that both of them are ready, willing and able to play very well in this game.”

QB Joey Harrington (DET) is still (as of this writing) the Lions’ starting QB, but that will likely change soon. At his press conference, HC Steve Mariucci at first said, "Today, he's our starter for Sunday." But then he indicated that could change. Mariucci didn't rule out starting Dan Orlovsky, but he also called him "a rookie and very under-practiced." Mariucci said Jeff Garcia had been cleared to practice and play this week if his leg felt well enough, but Garcia said he wasn't "anywhere close to 100%" and didn't know if he would be ready. Tick, tock. Tick, tock.

QB Ben Roethlisberger (PIT) will return to the starting lineup in week seven. In related news, Tommy Maddox suffered an injured shoulder against the Jaguars and will be the team’s #3 QB this week. It’s not certain that the demotion is due only to the injury.

QB A.J. Feeley (SD) has been traded from Miami to San Diego in exchange for an undisclosed 2006 draft pick and QB Cleo Lemon.

*** Thursday Update *** QB Marc Bulger (STL) is out this week. When asked if there was a chance for Bulger to play this weekend, interim HC Joe Vitt responded with a simple “no.”

*** Wednesday Update *** QB Marc Bulger (STL) has been diagnosed with a sprained AC joint in his throwing shoulder. The team has made no official announcement (and actually list Bulger as questionable for this week), but it looks like he could be out until the Rams come back from their bye week (November 13th).

QB Marc Bulger (STL) (according to reports) sprained the AC joint in his shoulder. He says it is similar to the injury he suffered last season and expects to miss two games. However, officially the Rams aren’t saying anything. "I don't want to assume anything yet, I think that's a hypothetical situation," interim HC Joe Vitt said when asked about possibly losing Bulger. "But I will say this: Jamie Martin was born and raised in this system and knows the system as good as anybody."

*** Friday Update *** QB Jeff Smoker (STL) has been signed from the team’s practice squad. T Matt Willig was released to make room.

*** Friday Update *** QB Steve McNair (TEN) did not practice on Friday and will be a game-time decision for week seven. Contrary to some reports, McNair has not yet been ruled out for Sunday. "He has been in this situation before. We just felt like an extra day would help. He is much better right now than he was last week," HC Jeff Fisher said. At the same time, he expressed confidence in backup QB Billy Volek: "Billy has taken just about every practice snap this week and he is ready to play. He has been in this situation before. I am not concerned about Billy and his ability to be productive." It will likely be a game time decision made after they see how McNair can warm up.

"Steve is struggling [physically] right now," Volek said. "He is banged up. He didn't think that in Week 7 he would be in this condition, and I know that is frustrating for him. I am just going to go out there and play my game and try to get a win."

*** Friday Update *** RB T.J. Duckett (ATL) missed practice again on Friday and is looking very questionable for this week. Said coach Jim Mora, "We will still list T.J. (Duckett) as questionable. We might have to downgrade him, but we are still hopeful that he will be able to give us something. He jogged a little day, so we will see."

*** Friday Update *** RB Marion Barber III (DAL) should see plenty of work this week with Julius Jones likely out. Anthony Thomas will see action with him. Tyson Thompson seems to have lost the confidence of Parcells after a terrible Saturday walk through workout last week where he made several mental errors.
