Fantasy Tidbits - Week 15

Hello guys and gals. This will be the final Tidbits column of the 2005 season. I would like to thank you for taking the time each week to check out my work and I would love to hear any feedback you may have on the column. If you have any ideas on additional information you would like to see this column look at in upcoming seasons, don't hesitate to contact me using my email address below and tell me your thoughts.

I hope in some small way that I have assisted you in both your fantasy leagues and your football pools throughout the 2005 season and I look forward to the 2006 season to once again delve into endless stats and past performance data to mine the useful nuggets to assist you in dominating your fantasy leagues and pools. I hope each of you has a wonderful holiday season, a fantastic start to your New Year and good luck in the final games of your fantasy campaign.

Now, let's go on to Week fifteen's article.

Fantasy Points are based on the following system

  • 1 pt every 20 passing yards
  • 1 pt every 10 rushing yards
  • 1 pt every 10 receiving yards
  • 4 pts per passing touchdown
  • 6 pts per rushing/receiving touchdown
  • -1 pt per interception

    - Are currently sitting first in the NFC South division at 9-4 (ahead of the Panthers due to divisional record)
    - Are now 4-1 over the last five games
    - Have only given up 26 points over the last three games
    - Have won 3 consecutive road games and are 5-2 on the season
    - Have given up 16 points or less in ten of the thirteen games this year
  • QB Chris Simms has a passer rating of 80.9
  • Simms and Brian Griese have combined to throw for 2,588 yards and 13 passing touchdowns on the year
  • RB Cadillac Williams
    - Only needs 76 more yards to finish with 1,000 rushing yards on the season
    - Has rushed for 408 yards over the last four weeks
    - Has five 100-yard rushing games this season
  • WR Joey Galloway
    - Needs only 6 more receptions to set a personal best (previous high was 72 catches set way back in 1997)
    - Has 80+ yards receiving in eight games this season

  • The Patriots…

Kansas City Chiefs at New York Giants

  • The Chiefs

    - Haven't lost back-to-back games since weeks three & four
    - Have scored 20+ points in eleven games
  • RB Larry Johnson continues his amazing roll. Consider these numbers over the last six games
    - Six straight 100-yard rushing games
    - 10 rushing touchdowns
    - 852 rushing yards or 142 yards per game
    - At least 22 carries in each game
  • Johnson has 852 rushing yards over the last six games. Those 852 yards alone would rank him 17th on the year ahead of Chris Brown, Ronnie Brown and Julius Jones
  • Johnson is currently 4th in rushing yards on the season and 3rd in rushing touchdowns. Priest who?
  • WR Eddie Kennison needs only 91 more yards to reach the 1,000 yard mark for the 2nd straight season
  • TE Tony Gonzalez still doesn't have a 100-yard game this year and has scored just twice. However he has caught 5+ passes in eight games
  • QB Trent Green
    - Has eight straight games of 220+ passing yards and has averaged 278 passing yards per game over that stretch
    - Is on pace to finish with 4,046 passing yards which would be his 3rd straight 4,000 yard season

  • The Giants
    - Have won three of the last four games
    - Are 6-1 at home on the season
    - Have averaged 30 points scored per game at home this year
  • QB Eli Manning has tossed 10 interceptions over the past five games after throwing just 5 in the first eight games
  • Manning has had three 300-yard passing games and six multiple-touchdown games
  • RB Tiki Barber…
    - Has had four straight 100-yard rushing games
    - Hasn't scored a rushing touchdown in four consecutive games (did score a receiving one)
    - Is averaging 104 rushing yards per game
    - Is 3rd in the NFL in rushing yardage
  • WR Plaxico Burress
    - Is over the 1,000 yard mark for the third time in five seasons
    - Has only 6 receptions for 84 yards over the past two games
    - Has only 1 touchdown over the past seven games
    - Has three 100-yard receiving games this year
  • TE Jeremy Shockey has four 100-yard receiving games on the year
  • Shockey only needs 55 more receiving yards to set a personal best for a season (had 894 yards as a rookie in 2002)

Denver Broncos at Buffalo Bills

  • The Broncos
    - Have won five of the last six games
    - Are only 3-3 on the road this year
    - Have given up 20+ points in four of the six road games
  • QB Jake Plummer has thrown for 200 yards in five of the last six games but only has 4 touchdown passes over the last five games
  • RB Mike Anderson
    - Needs only 129 more yards for his first 1,000 yard season since the 2000 campaign
    - Has only rushed for 89 total yards over the last three weeks (on 32 carries)
  • RB Tatum Bell has not rushed for more than 63 yards in a game over the past four weeks and hasn't scored since October 30th
  • WR Rod Smith needs 134 more receiving yards to finish with 1,000 yards receiving for the 8th time
  • Smith has at least 5 receptions in six straight games but no 100-yard games since October 16th

  • The Bills
    - Have lost four games in a row and six of the last seven
    - Have scored 17 points or less in six of the last seven games
    - Are 4-3 at home on the season
  • QB J.P. Losman…
    - Is completing less than 50% of his passes
    - Has averaged 149 passing yards per game
    - Has two multiple touchdown games
  • RB Willis McGahee has rushed for 1,000 yards for the 2nd straight season but has averaged just 3.8 YPC and scored a miserable 4 touchdowns
  • It has been five games since McGahee has rushed for 100 yards
  • WR Lee Evans has 380 receiving yards and 5 touchdowns over the last five games

Sunday, December 18th

Arizona Cardinals at Houston Texans

  • The Cardinals…
    - Have only scored 47 points over the past three weeks
    - Have won two straight road games but are 2-4 on the road this year
    - Have given up only 27 total points over the last two weeks
  • QB Kurt Warner…
    - Is averaging 289 passing yards per game
    - Has thrown just 10 touchdowns on 365 passing attempts
    - Has five 300-yard passing games on the season but just two multiple-touchdown games
  • Rookie RB J.J. Arrington hasn't rushed for more than 59 yards in a game this year
  • WR Larry Fitzgerald…
    - Has less than 42 receiving yards in two of the last three games
    - Hasn't scored in two straight games (hasn't been held without a touchdown in three straight games this year)
    - Has seven 100-yard games on the year
  • WR Anquan Boldin…
    - Has had four straight 100-yard receiving games
    - Has caught 38 passes over that four game stretch
    - Has seven 100-yard games
    - Is averaging over 100 receiving yards per game
  • Fitzgerald and Boldin are 4th and 7th respectively in receiving yardage

  • The Texans…
    - Have lost six games in a row and only have one win on the year
    - Have scored more than 20 points in a game just once all season
  • QB David Carr has thrown 12 touchdowns against only 9 interceptions on the year
  • Carr however is averaging less than 10 yards per completion
  • RB Domanick Davis
    - Needs only 24 more yards for his 3rd straight 1,000 yard rushing season
    - Has only 2 rushing touchdowns on the year but does have 4 receiving scores
    - Has rushed for 294 yards over the last two games on 51 carries
  • WR Andre Johnson…
    - Has caught only 7 passes over the last two weeks
    - Has only one touchdown reception on the year
    - Has only one 100-yard receiving effort on the year

Carolina Panthers at New Orleans Saints

  • The Panthers
    - Are only 2-2 over the last four games after winning six straight games
    - Are 4-2 on the road this season
    - Have scored 13 points or less in three of the last four games
    - Lost to the Saints in week one (23 to 20)
  • QB Jake Delhomme…
    - Has only 6 touchdown passes over the last six games
    - Has not thrown for more than 235 yards over that same stretch
    - Had 13 passing touchdowns in his first seven games
    - Has 4 touchdown passes in his last three games against the Saints
  • RB DeShaun Foster has 60 carries over the last three games (for 251 yards)
  • RB Stephen Davis has rushed for a total of 62 yards over the past four games and hasn't scored in four weeks
  • WR Steve Smith
    - Is still averaging over 100 receiving yards per game
    - Has had eight 100-yard games this year
    - Has scored just once in the last five games
    - Caught 8 passes for 138 yards and a touchdown against the Saints in week one

  • The Saints
    - Are only 1-8 over the last nine games
    - Have scored 17 points or less in seven of the last eight games and in nine games overall
  • QB Aaron Brooks has 13 touchdowns and 17 interceptions on the season. He had 98 touchdowns against 61 touchdowns over the previous four seasons

New York Jets at Miami Dolphins

  • The Jets
    - Scored 26 points last week which matched a season high
    - Are 0-7 on the road this season and have scored a total of 47 points in those seven games
    - Defeated the Dolphins 17 to 7 in week two
  • QB Brooks Bollinger has completed 29 of his last 63 passes for only 254 yards (4.03 YPA)
  • RB Curtis Martin is officially out for the season and will see his consecutive 1,000 yard rushing streak end at ten seasons
  • RB Cedric Houston carried the ball 28 times last week for 74 yards and scored a touchdown
  • WR Laveranues Coles has caught only 10 passes for 101 yards over the past three games and hasn't scored in the last five

  • The Dolphins
    - Have lost three straight games to the Jets
    - Have won three straight games for the first time since the 2003 season
    - Are 3-3 at home this year
    - Have scored 80 points over the last three weeks
  • The Dolphins' quarterbacks have 17 passing touchdowns on the season (Gus Frerotte leads the way with 14)
  • QB Gus Frerotte is up to 2,530 passing yards on the season. That is his best performance since the 1997 campaign with the Redskins
  • WR Chris Chambers
    - Only needs six more yards to set a personal best and 42 more yards to achieve his first 1,000 yard season
    - Has 29 receptions for 460 yards and 3 touchdowns over the past three games
    - Only caught 3 passes for 21 yards in his first game against the Jets
  • TE Randy McMichael only has one touchdown over the last nine games
  • Rookie RB Ronnie Brown
    - Needs 159 more rushing yards to reach the 1,000 yard mark

Philadelphia Eagles at St. Louis Rams

  • The Eagles…
    - Are 1-6 in the last seven games
    - Have given up 196 points in the last seven games
    - Have lost four straight road games and are 1-5 on the season
  • QB Mike McMahon has a passer rating of 55.6
  • RB Ryan Moats rushed for 114 yards on only 11 carries and scored twice last week
  • WR Reggie Brown has caught 8 passes for 99 yards over the last three games
  • QB Donovan McNabb had 16 touchdown passes on 357 attempts. His replacements have tossed just 1 touchdown on 157 passing attempts

  • The Rams…
    - Are 1-4 in the last five games
    - Have given up 21+ points in six straight games (168 total points in that stretch)
    - Are 3-3 at home this year
  • QB Ryan Fitzpatrick has no touchdowns and 6 interceptions over the last two games
  • RB Steven Jackson…
    - Needs 64 more yards for his first 1,000 yard rushing season
    - Has only one 100-yard effort in his last five games
    - Has just one touchdown in his last five games

Pittsburgh Steelers at Minnesota Vikings

  • The Steelers…
    - Had lost three games in a row prior to last week's resounding 21-9 victory over the Bears
    - Have scored 20+ points in ten games this year and held opponents to less than 20 point seven times
    - Have lost two straight road games but are 4-2 on the road this season
  • QB Ben Roethlisberger has thrown for 559 yards and 4 touchdowns over the last three games
  • Roethlisberger has at least one touchdown pass in each game he has played in this year
  • Roethlisberger has tossed 16 touchdowns on 217 passing attempts this year. His backups have tossed just 2 touchdowns on 106 attempts
  • RB Willie Parker still needs 144 more yards for his first 1,000 yard rushing season
  • Parker hasn't had a 100-yard effort since October 23rd and doesn't have a rushing touchdown since the same week

    - Has 8 touchdown passes against just 2 interceptions
    - Is completing 61.7% of his passes
    - Has three multiple-touchdown performances
  • The Vikings leading rusher is Mewelde Moore with only 551 rushing yards on the season
  • No Viking player has more than 500 receiving yards on the season (TE Jermaine Wiggins continues to lead the team in both receptions and yardage)
  • Wiggins however only has 3 receptions for 18 yards over the last two weeks

San Diego Chargers at Indianapolis Colts

  • The Chargers…
    - Lost a critical game last week to the Dolphins and now in all likelihood must win their final three games to make the playoffs
    - Are 4-2 on the road this season
    - The Chargers have lost five games this year by a total of 14 points
    - Have scored at least 17 points in each game this year
  • QB Drew Brees
    - Needs only 193 more passing yards to set a personal best for a season
    - Has multiple-touchdown passes in eight games this year
    - Has 200+ passing yards in nine games this season
  • RB LaDainian Tomlinson…
    - Hasn't scored in two straight weeks
    - Has failed to rush for 100 yards in five of the last seven games
    - Has five 100-yard rushing games on the year
    - Needs one more touchdown to reach 20 total touchdowns for the first time in his career (and also passed for 3 scores this year)
  • TE Antonio Gates…
    - Needs only 3 more yards for his first 1,000 yard season
    - Has four 100-yard games on the year
    - Needs only one more touchdown for his 2nd straight season with 10+ scores
  • WR Keenan McCardell needs only one more score to set a personal best in touchdowns for a season with 9 in his fourteenth season

  • The Colts…
    - Are only the 4th team to start 13-0. The last team to do it was the 1998 Denver Broncos who finished at 14-2 and won the Super Bowl
    - Have allowed less than 20 points in a game nine times this season
    - Have scored 26+ points in ten straight games
  • QB Peyton Manning
    - Has now thrown 27 touchdowns against only 8 interceptions
    - Has eight straight multiple-touchdown games
    - Has three 300-yard passing games in the last six weeks
    - Needs only 4 more touchdowns to tie Boomer Esiason for 12th place in all-time career passing touchdowns.
  • RB Edgerrin James…
    - Is averaging 111 rushing yards per game
    - Has rushed for at least 88 yards in every game this year
    - Has at least 20 carries in every game this year
    - Has scored a touchdown in nine of the games this year
    - Is averaging 25.7 carries per game
  • WR Marvin Harrison…
    - Needs only 8 more yards for his 7th straight 1,000 yard season
    - Has reached the double-digit mark in touchdowns for the 7th straight year
    - Has scored in seven of the past eight games
    - Has four 100-yard games in the last six weeks
    - Now has 110 career touchdown receptions (needs 21 more touchdowns to pass Cris Carter into 2nd place all-time)
  • WR Reggie Wayne needs 57 more yards to finish with 1,000 receiving yards and has two 100-yard games this year

Seattle Seahawks at Tennessee Titans

  • The Seahawks…
    - Have won nine straight games and averaged 32.2 points per game during that streak while giving up only 15
    - The combined record of the opponents during this streak is 41-76
    - Have outscored opponents 83 to 3 over the past two weeks
  • QB Matt Hasselbeck…
    - Currently has a passer rating of 92.7 which would be a personal best
    - Has at least one touchdown pass in all but one game this year
    - Has 200+ passing yards in ten of the thirteen games
  • RB Shaun Alexander…
    - Is averaging 115 rushing yards per game
    - Has 23 rushing touchdowns on the year
    - Has at least one touchdown in all but two games this year and multiple-scores in seven games
  • WR Bobby Engram leads the team in receptions and yards (57 receptions for 640 yards)
  • WR Joe Jurevicius leads the team with 8 receiving touchdowns

  • The Titans…
    - Have won two of the last three games
    - Have scored 14 or fewer points in six games
    - Are 3-3 at home and have won the past two home games
  • QB Steve McNair…
    - Needs 571 more yards to set a career-best in passing yards for one season
    - Has failed to throw a touchdown pass in two consecutive weeks

San Francisco 49ers at Jacksonville Jaguars

    - Have scored 10 points or less six times
    - Are 0-6 on the road this year, having been outscored 216 to 68
  • The 49ers have only 7 passing touchdowns on the season
  • Rookie QB Alex Smith has yet to throw a touchdown and has had 9 passes intercepted. His passer rating is 24.7
  • The 49ers have 6 rushing touchdowns on the year
  • RB Kevan Barlow leads the team with 581 rushing yards but is averaging just 3.3 yards per carry
  • WR Brandon Lloyd leads the way with 661 receiving yards but has just 114 yards over the past three weeks

  • The Jaguars…
    - Are 7-2 over the past nine games
    - Are 4-2 at home this season (lost to Denver and Indianapolis)
    - Have given up 20 points or less in ten games this year
  • QB David Garrard…
    - Is completing 60.5% of his passes
    - Has 3 touchdown passes against 1 interception
    - Has 2 rushing touchdowns
  • RB Fred Taylor has only rushed for 59 yards since November 6th
  • RB Greg Jones has rushed for 363 yards over the last five weeks
  • WR Jimmy Smith needs 164 more receiving yards to reach the 1,000 yard mark for the ninth time
  • Smith has scored a touchdown in two straight games
