Chris Smith Bio

Full Name: Chris P. Smith (the Web Site owner formerly known as Mr. Tuff)

Age: 31

Birthplace: Vancouver, BC

College: MTI, Stratford College (Computerized Sign Writing/Graphic Arts; Web Site Design; Programming in HTML, C+ and Basic)

Occupation: Pharmaceutical Lead Hand

Current City: Surrey

Years Playing Fantasy Football: 10

Favorite thing about Fantasy Football: I love the FF Draft and the feeling you get when you look at your roster immediately following the draft and realize that you've done well. I love competitive leagues in which all the owners are well informed and are on top of all the significant football news. It makes winning the league that much more enjoyable.

If you were Paul Tagliabue for a Day:

  1. I would bring 'the fun' back to the game. Touchdown celebrations, sack dances and other celebratory acts are fun to watch and add to the flavor of the game (obviously throat-cutting gestures should still be frowned upon). If the opposition doesn't like it, they shouldn't let the other team have success on the field and along those lines…
  2. I would fine a player for losing a close game that costs them a playoff spot and laughing it up on the field immediately following the game (aka Aaron Brooks, QB of the Saints). That is infinitely worse than seeing a player pull a pen out and sign a ball after scoring a touchdown.
  3. Expand to Canada.
  4. Give all Footballguys a pass to all NFL activities including camps, games and press conferences.

Something Odd/Different About You: I watch movies like Moulin Rouge, Kate and Leopold and Chicago because I enjoy them and not because it is the wifey's turn to pick something.

Favorite Movies/DVDs: Too many to list. Some of the more obscure ones include (1) Clockwork Orange; (2) The Seven Samurai and (3) Requiem for a Dream. The mainstream ones include Pulp Fiction, Goodfellas, Gladiator, Braveheart, American Pie and Moulin Rouge.

List Three CDs You Would Want If Stranded On a Deserted Island: I love all types of music but if I have to pick three it would have to be Metallica "Master of Puppets"; The Police "Greatest Hits"; and any Britney Spears CD (because crap floats and maybe I could use it to get off the island).

Marital/Children Status: Married and have two terrific children (girls aged nine and six… and yes I am terrified about the teenage years coming up).

Biggest Vice: Sleeman's Lager and fantasy football

Pet Peeve: Hearing that the National Hockey League ranks below bowling in the American television ratings.

Favorite Quotes:

  • Statistics are like bikinis. What they reveal is suggestive, but what they conceal is vital. - Aaron Levenstein
  • A man may die, nations may rise and fall, but an idea lives on. - John F. Kennedy (1917-1963)
  • Football isn't a contact sport, it's a collision sport. Dancing is a contact sport - Duffy Daugherty

Favorite NFL Team: I have been a huge Dolphins fan since 1981. The Chargers-Dolphins playoff match-up that season was when I became a diehard fan. I loved the Marino era and feel he deserved to win that elusive title. If he had any defensive help or a credible running game at all in the 80's he would have won a title or two.

Favorite Player: Mike Singletary -- I was a Linebacker for 9 years and this guy was my first and longest idol on the football field. He was a warrior who may not have been the fastest, the strongest or the most talented. His heart was as big as the field though and no player exhibited more of it on the field.

Hobbies: Reading, playing sports, writing, computer/Playstation games, watching movies

Dream Car: 2003 Ferrari Enzo (660 HP / 0-60 in 3.5 seconds / top speed 217 mph)

Scarface or Goodfellas? Love both but would pick Goodfellas in a pinch

Rather sleep at or on top of Paris Hilton? Since 'in' (guess I there wouldn't be much sleeping <wink> anyways) isn't one of the answers, I'll choose 'on'.

Key to FF success: Research, Research, Research! It is crucial to take the time to rank, rate and project your players in order to come to the draft armed and ready. Once the draft is done, that's when research really comes into play. Getting the next "Domanick Davis" via a Free Agent pickup can win a league for a savvy league owner.

Pre-game ritual: I love waking up early Sunday Morning and drinking a large cup of coffee while I watch the Pre-Game shows. I am on-line as well in case I need to make a last second change and then it is over to the easy chair with remote in hand for some furious channel surfing!

Sex or Football: I believe that you can have your cake and eat it too. I always figured that is what the halftime show is for.
