Spotlight On: High Stakes Contests

Fantasy Football Tournament of Champions

Description of Contest:

The FFTOC brings a new brand of fantasy football that is perfectly suited for high-stakes play. The basics on how to play are simple enough:

  • You can start any NFL player you want - but only once
  • You start a QB, 2 RBs, 3 WRs, 1 TE, 1 PK and 1 Defense each week
  • 600 teams compete in the twelve week FFTOC regular season
  • Teams are grouped into six team brackets and each bracket winner earns $2400
  • Head-to-head matchups are replaced by local bracket rivalries
  • 200 teams advance to play for four weeks in the Finals
  • The 20 highest ranking teams from the Finals win cash prizes
  • The entry fee is $1200 and the grand prize is $250,000

Tournament-style is easy to understand - In the first week you'll submit a starting lineup and the players won't come from a limited roster, you'll get to select starters from the entire NFL. Any combination of studs and sleepers that you want. "Who do I start" now becomes a question that is grand in scope and is joined by the more strategic decision - "who do I wait to start?"

From the second week onward until the season ends, your choices each week are only limited by the rule that you cannot start a player more than once. Sure, we all want the star players gaining points for our team, and in the Tournament of Champions they will. But only once. Better make it count.

At the end of week 12, the highest scoring team in each six-team bracket wins $2400. The brackets are then disbanded as the 200 highest scoring teams from the regular season advance to play for four more weeks during the Finals (week 13-16). Only the total scores during those four weeks will be used to determine the final rankings and the Tournament Champion.

Why is your contest/game unique?

The FFTOC is easily the most unique high-stakes game available since it is the only one that did not take the small league concept and pretend it works on a huge scale. The FFTOC was created expressly with a large set of players in mind with an aim to make the tournament as fair, fun and challenging as possible. It removes the elements of luck and disadvantage while giving exponentially more control and strategic decisions to the team owners. Making decisions every week is far more unique than drafting a team in the summer and riding it all season.

Final thoughts?

The FFTOC ushers in "tournament-style" play for fantasy football, the newest and most exciting thing to happen since awarding yardage points instead of only touchdowns. This style of play is the way to go for serious enthusiasts who care more about showcasing their skill than relying on luck and a draft slot to build a team. If you want to play fantasy football between a dozen friends, then league play is superb. If your desire is to pit your skills against everyone else in the world, then "tournament-style" at the Fantasy Football Tournament of Champions is your ticket. It's Tournament Time!
