DEF - MIA - Dolphins Release DT Evans As Result Of Arrest NYG - Giants QB Manning Struggles - But Not Panicked Source: Ralph Vacchiano, New York Daily News, Sporting News New York Giants QB Eli Manning had a difficult three-day minicamp as he, new OC Kevin Gilbride and QB coach Chris Palmer try to iron out the kinks of previous season. But the team feels there are many reasons not to panic. Manning is overloaded with information from the altered system and he's also trying to master new mechanics designed to help his accuracy and consistency. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] It's interesting to hear they'd be tweaking his mechanics at this stage of his career. I don't much like the sound of that. Between injuries to wide receivers, to star TEs too busy to show up for OTA's to the loss of Tiki Barber, I'm more than a little concerned about the Giants. SF - 49ers May Give TE/FB Walker More Chances Source: Santa Rosa Press-Democrat The San Francisco 49ers invested a 6th round pick in TE/FB Delanie Walker in 2006, and now they want to see what return they get. Walker sustained a right shoulder separation in the final preseason game last season, limiting him to only 23 snaps for the season. However, he is expected to be fully recovered from offseason surgery and the former Central Missouri product will have a chance to duplicate a great 2006 preseason and team up with Vernon Davis to give San Francisco versatility at the TE position. His role is expected to be increased as he regains his form in training camp. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] This team is going to be all about Vernon Davis at TE but Walker may get a few chances. To see how we project the entire team, click here MIA - Dolphins WR Ginn Jr., QB Beck Not Planning Hold-Outs Source: Andrew Abramson, Palm Beach Post Miami Dolphins draft choices wide receiver Ted Ginn Jr. and quarterback John Beck have recently indicated that they intend to sign contracts with the team prior to the opening of Training Camp. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Interesting words here. Let's see how this plays out for Ginn. If I were him, I'd jump at the money Miami offered me before they changed their mind... MIA - QB Culpepper Set For Hearing Friday Source: Len Pasquarelli, ESPN.com Still working to gain his release from the Miami Dolphins -- and hopefully in time to join another team before the beginning of training camps -- frustrated quarterback Daunte Culpepper will make his case for freedom at a Friday grievance hearing. Culpepper, who serves as his own agent, will be represented by NFL Players Association general counsel Richard Berthelsen, a spokesman for the union confirmed to ESPN.com. It is not yet known who will represent the Dolphins at the hearing, which will be presided over by arbitrator John Feerick. The former dean of the Fordham University Law School and a veteran arbitrator, Feerick ruled last summer in favor of quarterback Steve McNair in a similar grievance against the Tennessee Titans.[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Last year, it took Feerick a couple of weeks to make a decision. It's probably reasonable to expect a similar time table on this one. The clock is ticking for Culpepper to latch on with a team so the sooner the better for him. DEF - CHI - Bears DE Brown May See Reps At DT? Source: Larry Mayer, ChicagoBears.com With the Chicago Bears depth concerns at defensive tackle, there is a possibility that DE Alex Brown may see time playing inside on passing downs, depending on how some of the inside players perform in training camp and the preseason. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Something for you IDP guys to keep an eye on. The key for this defense I think will be how fully Tommie Harris returns. We'll see soon enough. DEF - TB - MLB Ruud Projected Starter In Tampa Source: Buccaneers.com With the departure of LB Shelton Quarles, LB Barrett Ruud is expected to take over the role in the middle to start the 2007 season. Ruud started five games last season, four for an injured Quarles and one at OLB for Ryan Nece. He finished with 59 total tackles. "I think Barrett has been a great understudy. He's stayed ready, and he's had a great camp. He's really going to be a fine middle linebacker,? HC Jon Gruden said. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Ruud sounds like he paid his dues, learned the job, and is now ready to take the big stage. Quarles leaves a hole but Ruud is ready to jump in. DEF - LB Arrington Remains Hospitalized Source: Jason La Canfora, Washington Post Free agent LB LaVar Arrington suffered more injuries than originally reported and he remains stationed at Prince George's Hospital Center for further recover. Along with his fractured right arm and lacerated leg, Arrington broke his wright wrist, tore tendons and has carpal-like symptoms in the wrist. He also had an infection develop from his lacerations. Agent Carl Poston continues to put a positive spin on Arrington. "LaVar is out of the danger zone now, and we're hopeful that he'll be home by the end of the week." [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Again, best wishes to Arrington for a full and quick recovery. DEF - MIA - Dolphins Release DT Evans As Result Of Arrest Source: Len Pasquarelli, ESPN The Miami Dolphins have released DT Fred Evans as a result of his arrest this past Saturday after an altercation with a taxi driver. Evans' situation was further compounded this week by the news that he is already on probation for marijuana possession charges in Texas. Because he is not a vested veteran, Evans is subject to waivers, but it is doubtful that any team will claim him, given his current legal issues. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Evans discovered the hard truth - his on the field positives were outweighed by his off the field negatives. That'll do it for today, Folks. Have a great Friday and we'll see you tomorrow with the update. Remember to grab one of our magazines if you haven't already. J |
