Hi Folks,

Good Wednesday to you. We've got lots of good stuff to get to but first, a Quote Of The Day:

"I dealt with Al Davis and that was an experience in itself."

-- Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan when asked if he'd ever experienced anything like Bobby Petrino is seeing with the Mike Vick situation.

Have a great day and let's get to it.

DET - Lions RB Jones Headed To PUP List

Source: Tom Kowalski, MLive.com

Detroit Lions RB Kevin Jones is still recovering from Lisfranc surgery and is expected to start training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list when players report to Lions camp on Wednesday. According to a source close to the situation, the odds are 50-50 that Jones will be ready by the start of the regular season. The reason for the skepticism is that Jones is far ahead of schedule on his recovery and he's running at full speed, but he still doesn't have total confidence in his cutting ability.

This isn't good news but it's also not unexpected. Jones has been rehabbing the foot and still has Week 1 as the target return date. In the meantime, Tatum Bell will be the focus. If Jones falls off schedule, it'll be Bell that would most likely benefit. To see how we project the entire team, click here.

IND - Colts OL Glenn Confirms Retirement

Source: John Oehser, Colts.com

Indianapolis Colts tackle Tarik Glenn officially announced his retirement in a press conference Tuesday evening.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There was a glimmer of hope Monday that Glenn might reconsider but those hopes were put to rest Tuesday night. It's a definite loss for this offense and Peyton Manning as well as RB Joseph Addai.

ATL - Culpepper's Name Not In Discussion Among Falcons Staff

Source: Scott Hanson, NFL Network

According to NFL Network's Scott Hanson reporting from Atlanta:

For now, Joey Harrington is the starting quarterback for the Falcons. The team will acquire another quarterback, at least for training camp. But it will not be Daunte Culpepper. Coach Bobby Petrino said Culpepper is not even in their discussions.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Interesting that they wouldn't even consider Culpepper. It's probably just as well. The last time Culpepper and Joey Harrington were on the same team, it wasn't all that pretty...

NE - Patriots PUP Designations

Source: Mike Reiss, Boston Globe

WR Troy Brown, RB Justise Hairston, WR Chad Jackson, CB Eddie Jackson, S Mel Mitchell, DL Richard Seymour, TE David Thomas, and WR Kelley Washington have been placed on the Patriots pre-camp physically unable to perform list.

These players, who are at different stages in their rehabilitations, can not participate in practice until they come off the PUP list.

Not a big worry this early in the process but something we'll keep an eye on for you.

STL - Rams Sign Second Round Pick RB Leonard

Source: Jim Thomas, St. Louis Post-Dispatch

St. Louis' second round draft pick, RB Brian Leonard, has signed a four-year contract. Leonard will likely be RB Steven Jackson's primary backup. With the signing, only first round selection DE Adam Carriker remains unsigned.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The best thing about Steven Jackson is the worst thing about Brian Leonard - we expect Jackson to be a workhorse. Assuming Jackson can stay healthy, we don't see a lot of work falling to Leonard. To see how we project the entire team, click here.

ATL - Vick's Legal Defense Focused On Keeping Him Out Of Jail - Not On The Field

Source: Scott Hanson, NFL Network

NFL Network's Scott Hanson interviewed legal expert David Cornwell for the Total Access program. When Cornwell was asked if Vick's newly hired legal defense team would spend any energy fighting the league sanctions against him.

Said Cornwell, "Absolutely not. Michael Vick's new attorney, Billy Martin is saying to Michael, 'I need to focus on these criminal proceedings. To the extent that league issues are going to be a distraction for me, we have to figure out a way to put it on the back burner.' There's absolutely no way that Billy's going to be focused on employment things when he's thinking about keeping Michael out of jail."

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Billy Martin is a very high profile defense attorney with lots of experience in big federal cases.

As recently noted by ESPN's Len Pasquarelli, Martin is a former federal prosecutor and senior official at the Department of Justice and has been in private practice since 1990.

Martin recently represented former Atlanta mayor Bill Campbell is his public corruption trial that was brought by the federal government. He has also represented former NBA players Jayson Williams and Rod Strickland, current NBA stars Allen Iverson and Juwan Howard and boxer Riddick Bowe.

Martin also represented Monica Lewinsky and her mother, along with the parents of the late congressional intern Chandra Levy.

He may not be Johnnie Cochran, but he's definitely one of the best defense attorneys out there. It may not be a "Dream Team" but Martin is a "Dream Guy". We'll see.

CLE - Browns Place TE Winslow On PUP List

Source: Orange & Brown Report

The Cleveland Browns have officially changed TE Kellen Winslow's roster status to "Active/Physically Unable to Perform".

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

As with the other players with other teams placed on the PUP list today, we're not overly worried as it was expected but it's also something we'll keep a very close eye on. The Browns are going to be counting on Winslow this year and his health will be a big concern.

Former Buffalo Bills 2nd round pick Marcellus Wiley is likely headed toward retirement, as he has heard no offers from any teams and is said to be happy with ending his career now.

Time catches up to these players in a hurry. Best wishes to Wiley if he does retire.

DEF - SD - Chargers SS Job Is Hart's To Lose

Source: Kevin Acee, San Diego Union-Tribune

The San Deigo SS starting role will almost certainly be taken by Clinton Hart, who will replace S Terrence Keil. Hart has gained 15 pounds this offseason in preparation for his new role. He will still have to fend off rookie S Eric Weddle and S Bhawoh Joe during training camp.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Something for you IDP guys to take note of. You'll have a new starting SS to work with. Let's see how training camp goes but it's looking pretty good right now for Hart.
