DAL - WR Roy Williams has contusion on shoulder

Source: Tim MacMahon - The Dallas Morning News

Tim MacMahon, of The Dallas Morning News, reports Dallas Cowboys WR Roy Williams (shoulder) has officially been diagnosed with a contusion on his left shoulder. Owner Jerry Jones did not commit to a timetable for Williams' return during an appearance on 105.3 The Fan, but he strongly hinted the receiver would be available for the regular-season opener.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jones stated the Cowboys would not look to add a veteran receiver, because Williams' injury shouldn't keep him out of action long. This injury will only lengthen the time Tony Romo and Roy Williams need to gel, which could lead to a slow start for the duo when Williams is healthy.

DEN - WR Brandon Marshall suspended for rest of preseason

Source: Mike Klis - the Denver Post

Mike Klis, of the Denver Post, reports that WR Brandon Marshall has been suspended for conduct detrimental to the team by the Denver Broncos. Adam Schefter, of ESPN, has reported on his Twitter feed that Marshall is suspended for the rest of the preseason, but he can be back for the regular season opener if he "behaves".

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Marshall will probably fall out of the top 100 picks in most drafts now. We would still take a chance on him around the 9th/10th round range in PPR leagues, because if this really goes completely sour, you can cut him for the WW flavor of the week, but if he straightens out, he'll be the rare top 20 WR you can get out of the top 100.

DAL - WR Roy Williams likely done for preseason

Source: ESPN.com

Updating previous reports, ESPN.com reports Dallas Cowboys WR Roy Williams (shoulder) is likely done for the preseason after injuring his shoulder Thursday, Aug. 27, a source told ESPN's Michael Smith.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Williams should fall to the 7th or 8th round on this news. We were already lukewarm about his prospects, and this just makes us more likely to opt for another receiver who seems to be on the upside of their career, instead of Williams, who looked like he was floundering in Dallas last year, and hasn't exactly lit the field on fire this preseason.

DEN - WR Brandon Marshall admits making an error in judgment

Source: Mike Klis - The Denver Post

Mike Klis, of The Denver Post, reports Denver Broncos WR Brandon Marshall was caught on video acting unprofessional during the team's practice Wednesday, Aug. 26. Marshall nonchalantly worked through a high-step running drill between cushioned obstacles during the practice, and then punting the ball away after the drill was finished. During an interview with ESPN's NFL Live Thursday, Aug. 27, Marshall said, "Me punting the ball was definitely frustration. It was an error in judgment. There was a lot of frustration yesterday coming out of a meeting" Marshall did not take his turn in running routes or catching passes in another drill, instead accepting the task of using a blocking dummy to knock receivers off their route. Marshall was caught batting a ball away at the end of the same drill. Marshall implied some of the video was taken out of context.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is somewhat encouraging, but it would be nice if Marshall had his good judgment kick in before his mistake next time. Still, after the video of Marshall in practice went "viral" yesterday, you might be able to get him at an absurd value pick in drafts this weekend. Even a significant amount of risk, you have to take Marshall in the eighth/ninth round in PPR leagues.

BUF - WR Terrell Owens says his toe is healed

Source: Terrell Owens

Terrell Owens reports on his Twitter feed that his toe is healed.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We would still be cautious and not take Owens before the mid to late third because toe injuries can linger all year.

TB - HC Morris liked seeing all three backs going

Source: Buccaneers.com

Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Raheem Morris said the team was able to use a little bit of their '2-2-1 format' in running the football Thursday, Aug. 27, as RBs Cadillac Williams, Earnest Graham and Derrick Ward were all able to see action. 'I started doing it a little bit last night. It wasn't as detailed as I would like it. It wasn't all the situational things that I would like. It was OK. When you get a chance to see all three of those guys working together. Last night, we talked about it before too, feeding off the one that got hot. Last night Earnest and Cadillac got hot, so you kind of let them go a little bit. Then I was sad because I had to take them out because their time was done,' Morris said.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The resurrection of Cadillac Williams threatens to take the air out of the balloon of the value of Derrick Ward and Earnest Graham, even at Graham's modest ADP.

PIT - Goal-line back has to conribute elsewhere

Source: Ray Fittipaldo - the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Ray Fittipaldo, of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, reports that if UDFA RB Isaac Redman is going to make the team and become the Steelers goal-line RB, he has to contribute somewhere else, probably special teams. Head coach Mike Tomlin said, "Gary Russell was able to get an opportunity to be [the goal-line back] in the past because he was a reliable special teams player. ... I would imagine that if our goal-line runner is anyone other than Willie Parker or Rashard Mendenhall it will be because they're capable of doing other things. That's where we are with it."

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Tomlin's words should send shivers down the spine of both Redman, and injured fifth-round pick FB Frank Summers. Willie Parker scored the only TD for the Steelers vs. the Redskins from three yards out, and the chances of him having the goal-line work going into the season aren't as remote as they were a few weeks ago, assuming he can stay healthy, which he hasn't done during training camp.

SEA - RB Edgerrin James has not participated in team drills

Source: Ryan Divish - the Tacoma News Tribune

Ryan Divish, of the Tacoma News Tribune, reports Seattle Seahawks RB Edgerrin James has done some light individual drills but has not participated in any team drills since he has joined the team. He has been talking with players after plays and has been watching practice intently.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The article compared Julius Jones to Batman, and Edgerrin James to Robin. If that's the case then Jones is like the George Clooney Batman, and should be replaced ASAP. In all seriousness, James is a veteran and a professional, so this lack of participation isn't that concerning at this early phase. The Seahawks signed James as insurance in case Julius Jones goes out with an injury or is ineffective. Either way, it wouldn't surprise us to see James break out of his "complementary" role and become the starter for the Seahawks at some time during the regular season.

ARI - WR Anquan Boldin sits out Friday

Source: Packers.com

Packers.com reports Arizona Cardinals WR Anquan Boldin (hamstring) is sitting out the team's preseason game Friday, Aug. 28.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

With Steve Breaston (knee) sitting out as well, the team will start Jerehme Urban opposite of Larry Fitzgerald. Urban has had a strong camp, and is a tough, determined receiver with consistent hands.

MIN - QB Brett Favre focusing on leg, not arm strength

Source: Chip Scoggins - the Minneapolis Star-Tribune

Chip Scoggins, of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, reports that even though QB Brett Favre has been kept on a pitch count, he has had no issues with his arm. He is instead more focused on getting legs game-ready. Favre said, "I'm not going to lie to you. The rest of my body feels like it hasn't practiced in quite a while, but with each day I assume I'll get fresher. But my arm feels fine."

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This just underscores how foolish it was for Favre to skip most of camp, and for the Vikings to go along with signing him even though he did. Most of the time, vets don't really need camp because they know everything so well. In Favre's case, he's been away from football all year, and he's learning a new offense. This won't end well.

DET - QB Daunte Culpepper to start Saturday

Source: Tom Kowalski - MLive.com

Tom Kowalski, of MLive.com, reports Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz said Daunte Culpepper will start the team's preseason game Saturday, Aug. 29.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Schwartz quickly commented that it no way reflected what could happen at the start of the regular season. CPepp is to play a quarter and a half, followed by rookie Matthew Stafford who will play a quarter and a half. The team wants to give both quarterbacks some time with the first-team offense, including WR Calvin Johnson who will play in the preseason for the first time this year.

TB - QB Byron Leftwich outperforms QB Luke McCown Thursday

Source: Associated Press

The Associated Press reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Byron Leftwich outperformed QB Luke McCown during the team's preseason game Thursday, Aug. 27. Leftwich was 9-for-17 for 100 yards while McCown finished 5-for-11 for 38 yards in the game. Both quarterbacks had roughly the same amount of playing time in the game.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Leftwich fits Jeff Jagodzinski's offensive game plan better, and he's the more experienced QB, so we think making him the starter is the right call.

GB - WR Greg Jennings injured Friday

Source: Tom Pelissero - the Green Bay Press-Gazette

Tom Pelissero, of the Green Bay Press-Gazette, reports Green Bay Packers WR Greg Jennings (head) suffered a blow to the head during the team’s preseason game Friday, Aug. 28, and is questionable to return.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

He was sandwiched between two defenders, but was able to leave the field under his own power.

NE - QB Tom Brady takes hard hit Friday

Source: Mike Reiss - Boston Globe

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady (shoulder) took a hard hit during the team's preseason game Friday, Aug. 28. He is trying to loosen up his shoulder on the sidelines, but he is not being tended to by trainers.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The severity of the injury isn't known right now, but all early reports say that it's nothing serious.

STL - WR Donnie Avery close to return

Source: Jim Thomas - the St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Jim Thomas, of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, reports that WR Donnie Avery took part in pre-game warm-ups on Thursday, August 27, and head coach Steve Spagnuolo said he, DT Adam Carriker, and DE Leonard Little are all close to returning to the field. "If for some reason they felt great (in warmup), maybe we would've went with 'em," Spagnuolo said. "But at this point it didn't make sense to put 'em in a situation where they could get injured worse."

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Avery's ADP has only dipped to about the ninth round, which is about right when you consider the possibility of a setback or decreased speed for him. We wouldn't reach for him before the eighth or ninth unless he is declared 100% very soon.

SF - QB Shaun Hill to start Saturday

Source: Taylor Price - SF49ers.com

Taylor Price, of SF49ers.com, reports San Francisco 49ers head coach Mike Singletary said QB Shaun Hill (back) will start in the team's preseason game Saturday, Aug. 29.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hill is still safe to draft as one of the last backup fantasy QBs off the board.

OAK - WR Darrius Heyward-Bey, WR Louis Murphy appear to be starting Saturday

Source: Jerry McDonald - ANG Newspapers

Jerry McDonald, of ANG Newspapers, reports it looks like Oakland Raiders WR Darrius Heyward-Bey and WR Louis Murphy will start in the team's preseason game Saturday, Aug. 29.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Chaz Schilens will certainly enter the starting lineup once he's healthy, but we think in the meantime TE Zach Miller will be the #1 target in the passing offense because of the inexperience at WR.

TB - QB Josh Freeman unlikely to start Week 1

Source: Jim Flynn - PewterReport.com

Jim Flynn, of PewterReport.com, reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Raheem Morris said QB Josh Freeman will not start the team's opening week game unless there is an injury to QB Byron Leftwich and/or QB Luke McCown.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is the smart move, but we also think Freeman will be starting by December unless one of Leftwich and McCown is a revelation in the fall.

MIN - WR Bernard Berrian participating in individual drills Friday

Source: Darren Wolfson - CBSSports.com

CBSSports.com reports Minnesota Vikings WR Bernard Berrian (hamstring) is participating in individual drills during practice Friday, Aug. 28. He is expected to try to play in the team's preseason game Monday, Aug. 31.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Great news if you've already drafted Berrian, or if you're targeting him as a WR3/WR4. We're still wary of drafting a speed receiver who is entering the season recovering from a hamstring injury, but if he opens up the throttle and looks good Monday night, our faith in Berrian for 2009 will be restored.

CAR - RB Jonathan Stewart not expected to play Saturday

Source: Steve Reed - CBSSports.com

CBSSports.com reports Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (Achilles') is not expected to play in the team's preseason game Saturday, Aug. 29.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There is some doubt as to whether or not Jonathan Stewart will play in next week's game as well. He is a very talented back with a nose for the endzone, but so far in his pro career he's struggled to stay healthy. If he's not able to stay injury free, expect DeAngelo Williams to have an increased role, as well as rookie Mike Goodson.

CAR - WR Steve Smith a game-time decision for Saturday

Source: Steve Reed - CBSSports.com

CBSSports.com reports Carolina Panthers head coach John Fox said WR Steve Smith (shoulder) is a game-time decision for the team's preseason game Saturday, Aug. 29.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Steve Smith is one of the toughest players in the game, so it's not surprising to us that he'd be pushing to play this weekend. The third preseason game is more or less a dress rehearsal for the regular season, and it's going to be difficult to keep Smith off the field if he feels like he's ready to go.

CIN - C. WR Chris Henry scores Thursday

Source: Associated Press

The Associated Press reports Cincinnati Bengals WR Chris Henry caught two passes for 62 yards with a touchdown reception during the team's preseason game Thursday, Aug. 27. Henry has all three of the team's touchdown receptions in the preseason.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Henry's scoring binge during the preseason is fueling the rise of his ADP. You have to take him in the 8th or 9th round now to ensure that he lands on your team.

STL - RB Samkon Gado scores twice Thursday

Source: Associated Press

The Associated Press reports St. Louis Rams RB Samkon Gado had five carries for 33 yards with a rushing touchdowns and a two-yard touchdown reception during the team's preseason game Thursday, Aug. 27.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gado seems to have locked up the backup job in St. Louis. If you take Steven Jackson in the first and feel inclined to take an injury handcuff, Gado is your man.
