Hi Folks,

Good Friday to you. Big news today as we're throwing another $25,000 into the top prize for our Footballguys Player Championship contest. That brings the MINIMUM GUARANTEED top prize to $100,000. Jump in and grab a team.

Plus we've got new features for you as well as all the news and notes you need.

Cool site of the day: My friend Paul Charchian is one of the pioneers in the Fantasy Football industry. As co-founder of the original Fanball, he was one of the big shots way back when I was just getting started. He's always been a friend and a stand up guy. His site is LeagueSafe.com and it rocks.

Last note of the day: I get accused of being a Patriots homer sometimes but the reality is I think Bill Belichick and Tom Brady are the best in the game at their positions. So for a little balance, wanted to throw the Brady haters a bone.

Oh My...

Enough silliness. Let's get to it.

CAR - WR David Gettis has torn ACL

Source: CarolinaGrowl.com - Steve Reed

Carolina Panthers WR David Gettis (knee) has a torn anterior cruciate ligament and is expected to miss the entire 2011 season.

Tough break here for Gettis and the Panthers.

BAL - RB Ray Rice will be used around goal line

Source: BaltimoreRavens.com

Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Cam Cameron said RB Ray Rice will have a major role in goal line and short yardage situations this season.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Willis McGahee has moved on to Denver, and Le'Ron McClain is now with the Chiefs. Rice will have the opportunity to rack up a lot of short yardage touchdowns this year. He's a viable pick as high as #1, and he'll deliver if the Ravens run blocking improves this year.

WAS - RB Tim Hightower considered favorite to start

Source: Redskins.com - Ross Leonhart

Washington Redskins RB Tim Hightower has seen most of the work with the first-team offense while RB Ryan Torain (hand) has been out and is considered the early favorite to win the starting running back this season.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hightower's fumbling problems have followed him from Arizona to Washington as he lost 3 fumbles the first 3 days of training camp. Mike Shanahan will have a RB carousel this year, so it's difficult to trust anyone in that backfield as a consistent fantasy producer.

NO - Mark Ingram could see significant playing time early

Source: ESPN.com - Pat Yasinskas

New Orleans Saints RB Mark Ingram has performed well during training camp and could see a lot of playing time early on if he can show he knows the playbook and is able to handle blitz pickup. He has seen a significant amount of time with the first-team offense during camp.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ingram is a true workhorse back who is a terrific RB2 to target in the fourth round. He is the type of RB who gets stronger as the game goes on and shows great heart when running the football. Defenses are going to have a difficult time defending the Saints because they can't stack eight in the box to stop the run with Drew Brees at quarterback.

CLE - Greg Little emerging as No. 1 WR?

Source: CBSSports.com

After a rough start to training camp, Cleveland Browns WR Greg Little is finally hanging onto the football more frequently and making plays. If he proves reliable in that area, he'll almost assuredly be the team's No. 1 wide receiver.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

No surprise here. Little is a fantastic playmaker who is fearless when running routes over the middle. He reminds many in the scouting community of a young Anquan Boldin because of his run after the catch ability.

IND - TE Dallas Clark healthy

Source: KFFL.com

Indianapolis Colts TE Dallas Clark (wrist) is fully healthy and has been practicing without restraint. 'It feels great. I have not felt it, which I'm trying not to jinx myself or think about it too much,' said Clark. 'I'm just seriously trying to take it day-by-day and just kind of cross whatever bridge that comes however it feels, whatever attention it needs, more therapy, more post-workout treatments and things like that. It feels great, so I'm really excited.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It sounds like Clark's condition was pretty serious, but it shouldn't stop you from investing in him as an elite option at TE if your draft plan includes that strategy.

CHI - TE Kellen Davis at top of depth chart

Source: ESPN.com - Kevin Seifert

Chicago Bears TE Kellen Davis is listed at the top of the depth chart at his position in training camp. The team apparently trusts him enough as a blocker, but he has just 11 catches in his career.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Davis could have a breakout year as an NFL player, but Mike Martz offenses are terrible for fantasy TEs.

IND - TE Dallas Clark will wear brace on wrist all year

Source: The Indianapolis Star - Mike Chappell

Indianapolis Colts TE Dallas Clark (wrist) said he will wear a brace on his surgically repaired wrist the entire season after doctors told him they wanted him wear it all year.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Clark will finish as a top 5 fantasy TE if he can stay healthy. We don't anticipate the wrist brace inhibiting his ability to catch the football.

PIT - WR Jerricho Cotchery agrees to terms

Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Updating a previous report, the Pittsburgh Steelers have agreed to terms with free-agent WR Jerricho Cotchery (Jets) on a one-year deal. Financial terms were not disclosed.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A good move by the Steelers here. Cotchery provides them insurance on many levels. First, he provides insurance since Emmanuel Sanders is set back by foot surgery. Second, he provides insurance as Hines Ward is getting up there in age and not the same player he used to be. Cotchery may or may not see much playing time in Pittsburgh based on what happens with other WRs on the team, but if called upon he could produce for the team behind Mike Wallace.

HOU - Two suffer injuries during practice

Source: Houston Chronicle - John McClain

Houston Texans RB Steve Slaton (hamstring) suffered a hamstring injury during practice Thursday, Aug. 11, and LS Jonathan Weeks sprained his ankle during practice.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Slaton could be cut by the Texans if he can't stay healthy. He would get interest from teams like Denver or Washington if on the open market.

CLE - QB Colt McCoy having strong camp

Source: CBSSports.com

Cleveland Browns QB Colt McCoy has clearly outperformed QB Seneca Wallace in training camp, despite Wallace's experience in the West Coast offense.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McCoy showed flashes last year as the Browns starter and took on a leadership role this offseason organizing players only workouts.

CLE - RB Montario Hardesty again working on the side

Source: The Associated Press

Cleveland Browns RB Montario Hardesty (knee) again worked on the side with trainers Wednesday, Aug. 10, as he continues to mend after knee surgery. Hardesty has yet to practice with the team at training camp.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hardesty has amazing talent but needs to get on the practice field, stay healthy, and prove himself. He could be in for a decent sized role this year as the complementary runner behind Peyton Hillis.

BUF - Open to trading WR Lee Evans

Source: ESPN.com

The Buffalo Bills are open to the possibility of trading WR Lee Evans. Evans said he has not asked general manager Buddy Nix or head coach Chan Gailey for a trade.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We're surprised that Baltimore hasn't made a stronger play for Evans. His talent is better than his recent numbers and he could upgrade many passing games around the league. Perhaps once injuries strike during the preseason we'll see interest in Evans pick up.

TEN - Willing to make RB Chris Johnson highest paid RB

Source: The Associated Press - Teresa M. Walker

Updating a previous report, Tennessee Titans general manager Mike Reinfeldt said the team is willing to make RB Chris Johnson the highest paid running back in NFL history but has to report to camp for the negotiations to begin.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

NYJ - WR Plaxico Burress still dealing with injury

Source: New York Post - Brian Costello

New York Jets WR Plaxico Burress (ankle) is still dealing with an ankle injury and may be limited during practice Thursday, Aug. 11. Head coach Rex Ryan said the injury is minor and believes Burress will be able to play in the first preseason game.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Burress is trying to make a comeback after two years away from the game. The Jets want him to have a big role in the passing game this year, but he needs to get healthy so he can start developing chemistry with Mark Sanchez.

CHI - WR Devin Hester excelling in camp

Source: ESPN.com - Kevin Seifert

Chicago Bears WR Devin Hester has been exceptional in training camp this summer. He appears to be running routes with tons of confidence and is catching every ball thrown his way. He seems to be much more comfortable in offensive coordinator Mike Martz's system.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Just when everyone was ready to write Hester off as a wide receiver, he seems to have found his game. He's worth a very late flier pick for as long as this positive buzz continues.

PIT - WR Jerricho Cotchery won't start

Source: ESPN.com

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Jerricho Cotchery, who agreed to a one-year deal Thursday, Aug. 11, will not be a starting receiver for the team this year. The team has WRs Mike Wallace, Hines Ward, Antonio Brown and Emmanuel Sanders on roster. Cotchery will report to the team's camp Sunday, Aug. 14.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cotchery could start if injuries strike in front of him on the depth chart. The Steelers have made this type of move for years. They seem to add a quality veteran each year to serve for depth and insurance.

WAS - RB Ryan Torain believes he will back soon

Source: The Washington Post - Mike Jones

Washington Redskins RB Ryan Torain (hand) said he is doing well in his recovery from a broken hand and expects to return to practice soon. He is not worried that the injury will hurt his chances to win the starting job because he has been taking mental reps during practice.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Torain is a favorite of head coach Mike Shanahan. However, he has trouble staying healthy and could get passed over for the starting job because of the depth the Redskins have in their RB corps.
