CAR - Will not rush Cam Newton

Source: NFL.com - Bucky Brooks

The Carolina Panthers will not play QB Cam Newton extensively until he shows a firm grasp of the offense and they build a supporting cast that will enable him to have success as a starting quarterback. Newton's running ability and improvisational skills make him more of a run-first quarterback at this point. He has an exceptionally strong arm and shows solid throwing mechanics. However, sloppy footwork on occasion has led to some errant throws. Newton improved his fundamentals leading up to the NFL Draft and will need to continue to do so to be an effective drop-back passer in the NFL.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The team has a strong ground game and a group of young receivers who will develop alongside Newton. We can't see him being on the bench too long this year because of the team's lack of veteran depth at the quarterback position.

DEN - Not actively shopping QB Kyle Orton

Source: NFL Network - Jason La Canfora

The Denver Broncos are not actively shopping QB Kyle Orton and likely would not be interested in trading him unless they received at least a second-round pick.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Broncos could get a second-round pick (or more) for Orton. If that deal came across the table we feel that Denver would send the veteran packing and move forward with Tim Tebow as their starter.

CIN - Questions about Dalton's arm strength

Source: Matt Williamson - ESPN.com and Scouts Inc.

Matt Williamson, from ESPN.com and Scouts Inc, has questions about rookie QB Andy Dalton's arm strength. It could become a problem for the Bengals new QB, especially in bad weather and when he doesn't have enough room to wind up.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Members of our FBG staff watched Dalton up close during the week of the Senior Bowl earlier this year and noted his serious lack of arm strength. Dalton has to wind up to throw with proper velocity and needs space in the pocket to do so. We don't think the Bengals will ask Dalton to throw downfield a lot, but he should be able to perform well in Jay Gruden's short/intermediate passing West Coast Offense.

SF - Kaepernick may surpass Smith quickly

Source: Matt Williamson - ESPN.com and Scouts Inc.

Matt Williamson, from ESPN.com and Scouts Inc, believes in rookie QB Colin Kaepernick and feels it might not take him long to surpass Alex Smith for the starting job with the 49ers.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The lockout is hurting Kaepernick's chances of winning the starting job early. If the team struggles during the year we could easily see the rookie getting the starting nod over Alex Smith during the last few weeks of the season.

WAS - Beck not better option than Grossman

Source: Matt Williamson - ESPN.com and Scouts Inc.

Matt Williamson, from ESPN.com and Scouts Inc, is not a fan of Redskins QB John Beck and doesn't think that he's clearly a better option than free agent Rex Grossman.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We agree with Williamson here. Beck is a backup quality player at best, with little arm strength and poor leadership skills. He is considering himself the starter at this point, but we feel the Redskins will add at least one more veteran QB to the mix to compete for the starting job.

SD - Questions about RB Todman's fit

Source: Matt Williamson - ESPN.com and Scouts Inc.

Matt Williamson, from ESPN.com and Scouts Inc, has questions about rookie Jordan Todman's fit in the Chargers offense. He was drafted to replace Darren Sproles but is a more straight line runner, runs with less leverage and power, and not nearly the reciever or returner.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Todman lacks the explosion to make the corner consistently at the pro level. He is also an upright runner who frequently fails to run through arm tackles. There will certainly be a drop off going from Sproles to Todman this year.

SF - Crabtree situation interesting to watch

Source: Mike Sando - ESPN.com

Mike Sando, from ESPN.com, believes the situation with 49ers WR Michael Crabtree will be interesting to watch. Sando notes that at times last year Crabtree seemed disinterested and will have to produce on the demands of new head coach Jim Harbaugh.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Crabtree has elite physical talent, but has not made the most of his playmaking ability in the pros. Part of that reason is the lack of chemistry between he and QB Alex Smith. Many expect Smith to be back for one more season in San Francisco, but the future is rookie Colin Kaepernick. Perhaps Crabtree will work better with the rookie from Nevada and start producing at a high level.

STL - Amendola could get 100 catches

Source: Mike Sando - ESPN.com

Mike Sando, from ESPN.com, believes Rams WR Danny Amendola could really flourish under offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels and may get 100 catches this season.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McDaniels reportedly loves Amendola's skill set and may see him as the next Wes Welker. Amendola is coming off an 85-catch season, and may more involved this year. With better weapons around Sam Bradford we think the Rams passing game could produce bigger numbers than some expect.

NYG - Coach said team has not talked about WR Plaxico Burress

Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Ohm Youngmisuk

New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin said the team has not talked about the possibility of re-signing WR Plaxico Burress after he gets out of prison.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Giants still make the most sense for Burress for many reasons. He knows the system, knows the coaching staff, and has good chemistry with QB Eli Manning.

ARI - Bulger a fallback option at QB

Source: Mike Sando - ESPN.com

Mike Sando, from ESPN.com, believes the Cardinals could see free agent QB Marc Bulger as more of a fallback option than their primary target at the position.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The team is rumored to be heavily interested in adding Kevin Kolb, and some in the media have called the future pairing a 'slam dunk.' If Kolb's asking price is too high (at least one first-round pick) then the team could look to guys like Bulger or Kyle Orton.

CLE - Joshua Cribbs believes lockout hurting team

Source: Akron Beacon Journal - Nate Ulrich

Cleveland Browns WR Joshua Cribbs said the lockout is hurting the Browns because they have not been able to install their new offensive or defensive schemes during the offseason. Cribbs said some of the offensive players have worked out together which has helped learning the offense.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cribbs is right. The lockout is hurting teams with new coaching staffs more than established staffs. The Browns are one of several teams with a new offensive philosophy that won't be able to be fully implemented until the lockout is over.

CAR - Newton wearing #2 'not a big deal'

Source: Frank Tadych - NFL.com

Frank Tadych, from NFL.com, reports rookie QB Cam Newton is not concerned about getting the #2 from second-year player Jimmy Clausen. "I really don't care. It's just a number to me," Newton said. "Gossip sells, and I understand that with people hearing I wore No. 2 in college, and Jimmy has it right now, (but) it's not a big deal to me. I just want to get that out of the way and throw it out there. It's not the number. It's the person wearing it."

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Newton wore the #2 and won National Championships the last two years, one with Auburn and one with Blinn Junior College. However, when he first played college football at the University of Florida he wore the #13. We don't think Clausen will get cut from the Panthers roster this year, but he's certainly not the future. If Newton really wants the number then all he has to do is wait.

MIN - Christian Ponder looking to organize workouts

Source: ESPN.com - Kevin Seifert

Minnesota Vikings QB Christian Ponder said he has been talking with some of his teammates and is trying to organize workouts that would involve some passing drills. Ponder said the workouts would occur over the next few weeks.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Good to see Ponder showing leadership here. The rookie has been called the 'Vikings Matt Ryan' and some feel he could start right away as he was the most pro ready QB in the 2011 NFL Draft. However, the longer the lockout goes the more likely the team is to trade for a veteran like Kyle Orton.

MIN - Could show interest in QB Kyle Orton

Source: ESPN - Chris Mortensen

The Minnesota Vikings could show interest in acquiring Denver Broncos QB Kyle Orton once the lockout ends.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The longer the lockout goes the more likely the Vikings are to add a veteran quarterback. Christian Ponder is the future, but the team would be foolish to plug him into the starting lineup in week one - especially with a limited/shortened training camp. Orton is the second hottest quarterback who could be available (after Kevin Kolb) and could likely be had for a second- or third-round pick.

BUF - WR Johnson says 'Easley is a beast'

Source: Chris Brown - BuffaloBills.com

Chris Brown, from BuffaloBills.com, reports WR Steve Johnson had high praise of second-year WR Marcus Easley. "This dude Marcus Easley looks like a beast," said Johnson. "He's big and he's fast and he still has all his speed. When he first came in (last year) he looked like a kid right out of college. Now he's comfortable with his routes. He's big and fluid in his routes. I want to see what he's about in preseason because he's looking real good."

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Savvy fantasy owners in deep dynasty leagues should have Easley on their roster. He is a big receiver who knows how to use his frame to box out defenders, has the vertical to regularly high point passes, and soft hands to be a reliable receiver. He missed all of his rookie season with a knee injury, and could emerge in the Bills passing game this year.

MIA - Brown/Thomas RBBC in 2011?

Source: Jeff Darlington - Miami Herald

Jeff Darlington, from the Miami Herald, reports via Twitter that after talking to both sides he wouldn't be surprised to see Ronnie Brown stay with the Dolphins to work in a RBBC with rookie Daniel Thomas.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Brown wants to stay in Miami, but he'll have to come at the right price. The team would not be against keeping Brown around but they don't want to overpay for the veteran. Even if Brown moves on in free agency he is unlikely to be handed a featured role with another team.

DEF - NYJ - ILB Bart Scott feels lockout out of hand

Source: New York Daily News - Manish Mehta

New York Jets LB Bart Scott feels the NFL lockout is starting to get out of hand. 'We're bordering now on the verge of insanity. Fans don't want to hear about lockout,' Scott said. 'They don't want to hear about people arguing over $9 billion. They want the bottom line. Because at the end of the day, these guys are saving up throughout the entire year to come out and spend their hard earned money to see football. And we're telling them that they can spend their hard earned money but we're not playing until we figure it out. I listen to (Patriots owner Robert) Kraft. I don't agree with the Patriots on a lot of things, but I agree with him that we're really on the verge of irritating our fan base and damaging the fabric of the game.'

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We have a feeling there are more players who feel the way Scott does.
