1. HOU - RB Duke Johnson acquired by Texans

Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Cleveland Browns RB Duke Johnson was acquired by the Houston Texans Thursday, Aug. 8, in exchange for an undisclosed 2020 draft pick.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Johnson has been one of the best receiving backs in the league and one of the most frequently explosive backs in the league despite strangely minimal usage by the Browns since they signed him to an extension last year. While he won't usurp the starting job from Lamar Miller, he gives the team a top-end passing down/no huddle option with the ability to post RB2/Flex level numbers in PPR leagues with big play spikes.

2. HOU - WR Keke Coutee injures leg

Source: Houston Chronicle - John McClain

Houston Texans WR Keke Coutee (leg) was helped off the field after suffering a right leg injury in the preseason game against Green Bay Packers Thursday, Aug. 8.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Unofficial reports from looking at the replay has some folks speculating it could be an MCL sprain. But wait for official word Friday.

3. CLE - RB Duke Johnson shipped to Houston

Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Cleveland Browns RB Duke Johnson was acquired by the Houston Texans Thursday, Aug. 8, in exchange for a conditional fourth-round draft pick that can become a third-round pick in 2020.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This news backs up the idea that Cleveland likes Dontrell Hilliard as their receiving back, and he will be the primary backup until Kareem Hunt returns from an eight-game suspension, although the Browns could look to waivers after final cuts to improve their depth chart at the position.

4. DET - Broken leg for WR Jermaine Kearse

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Updating a previous report, Detroit Lions WR Jermaine Kearse (leg) suffered a broken leg during the preseason game Thursday, Aug. 8, according to a source. He also suffered injuries to his ankle.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This was an awful injury for Kearse.

5. DAL - WR Amari Cooper remains sidelined

Source: The Dallas Morning News - Calvin Watkins

Dallas Cowboys WR Amari Cooper (heel) did not participate in practice Thursday, Aug. 8, and has missed the last five practices.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cooper remains sidelined but there's zero rush to get him out there...especially when the team is still trying to work out a long-term deal. Reports indicate the Cowboys have made a 'significant' offer but nothing has been agreed to yet.

6. NO - RB Kerwynn Williams catches on with New Orleans

Source: The Times-Picayune - Herbie Teope

Free-agent RB Kerwynn Williams (Buccaneers) signed an undisclosed contract with the New Orleans Saints on Thursday, Aug. 8. RB Matthew Dayes was waived with an injury designation to make room for him on the roster.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Saints have moved some pieces around in the backfield over the last week or so. Williams is the latest edition and he'll try to latch onto the roster by showcasing his speed and ability to rip off big plays. He's at the end of the bench with guys like Jacquizz Rodgers and undrafted rookie Devine Ozigbo.

7. SF - RB Jerick McKinnon set to have PRP injection

Source: - Nick Wagoner

San Francisco 49ers RB Jerick McKinnon (knee) was held out of practice Thursday, Aug. 8, due to soreness in his knee after practicing the last two days. Head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters McKinnon will receive a platelet rich plasma injection in his knee and miss the next two weeks of practice before returning to practice.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Two weeks might be a bit optimistic. McKinnon is no sure bet to be ready for the start of the regular season. The 49ers will continue to see Tevin Coleman and Matt Breida compete for the top spot on the depth chart.

8. NYJ - RB Ty Montgomery set to play hybrid role

Source: New York Daily News - Manish Mehta

New York Jets RB Ty Montgomery told the New York Daily News' Manish Mehta that he feels like 'a true hybrid in this offense (under head coach Adam Gase).''It was a surprising deal when he came in here. I was surprised he wasn't signed yet. The fact that we had a shot at him coming here and when we got him signed, the wheels started turning on offense as far as all right, what are we going to do? How are we going to use these guys? What's it going to look like? So, we're experimenting with all that stuff. His versatility and his flexibility and his knowledge ... and he's extremely smart. So, we put a lot on his plate and he's able to play a lot of different roles for us,' Gase said.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Montgomery is a versatile player as he can line up in the slot as a wide receiver but he can also take handoffs as a running back. The Jets have Le'Veon Bell to be their primary running back, and Bell is a fine receiver out of the backfield too. Montgomery may not get many snaps other than when Bell needs a breather. We'll be interested to see how they use him in the preseason.

9. LAC - QB Philip Rivers to sit out game

Source: Los Angeles Times - Jeff Miller

Los Angeles Chargers QB Philip Rivers will be held out of the team's preseason opener Thursday, Aug. 8.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's the first preseason game for the Chargers, so this move is not surprising. QB Tyrod Taylor is expected to start and be backed up by Cardale Jones and Easton Stick.

10. KC - QB Patrick Mahomes to play Saturday

Source: - Adam Teicher

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes will start in team's preseason opener Saturday, Aug. 10, and will be followed by Chad Henne, Kyle Shurmur and Chase Litton in the quarterback rotation.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We should see Mahomes for a drive...maybe two in the Chiefs first preseason game. We're excited to see what Mahomes can do for an encore this year after setting the league on fire in 2018.

11. MIA - DT Robert Nkemdiche signs with Miami

Source: The Miami Herald - Armando Salguero

Free-agent DT Robert Nkemdiche (Cardinals) signed an undisclosed deal with the Miami Dolphins Thursday, Aug. 8.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Nkemdiche (knee) was placed on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list. He's still recovering from the knee injury that put him on Injured Reserve last December for the Cardinals. Nkemdiche's career has been set back by injuries but he's a good player for the Dolphins to take a chance on. It's a low risk move with some upside as a reward if Nkemdiche gets healthy and plays well.

12. SF - Nick Bosa out for preseason

Source: NBC Sports Bay Area - Matt Maiocco

San Francisco 49ers DE Nick Bosa (ankle) will miss the entire preseason, and he'll be re-evaluated before Week 1, according to general manager John Lynch.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is a high-ankle sprain and that could linger into the regular season. Lynch did not leave out the possibility that Bosa could miss time when the games count. We'll know more about his status when the preseason is over.

13. GB - TE Jimmy Graham expects more in 2019

Source: Wisconsin State Journal - Jason Wilde

Green Bay Packers TE Jimmy Graham said he expects to be a bigger part of the offense under new head coach Matt LaFleur.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Graham was not a force in the red zone last year, scoring only two touchdowns. This was after his final season in Seattle where he scored 10 times. We should see Graham have a bounce-back season in 2019. Perhaps he won't get 10 touchdowns, but we'd bet he gets more than a couple. Graham has a current ADP of TE17 (13.09) in 12-team PPR leagues.

14. MIA - Lofty goal for WR DeVante Parker

Source: Sun-Sentinel - Safid Deen

Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker said his goal is to reach 1,000 yards receiving this season.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Keep an eye on this situation as the press has all been positive about Parker's performance in OTAs, minicamp and now training camp. Parker needs to stay healthy and finally play up to the potential that made him a first-round pick back in 2015.

15. TEN - RB Jeremy McNichols continues to shine

Source: - Jim Wyatt

Tennessee Titans RB Jeremy McNichols continues to 'get a lot of work' during training camp and is 'making the most of his opportunities,' according to Jim Wyatt of

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McNichols is a good all-purpose back. We'll continue to monitor him in deep dynasty formats.

16. JAX - WR Chris Conley locked in with QB

Source: The Athletic - Phillip Heilman

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Chris Conley has developed chemistry with QB Nick Foles on deep balls during training camp, according to Phillip Heilman of The Athletic.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Keep this in mind when watching the Jaguars in the preseason. Conley is working as a field-stretching No. 3 wide receiver at this time.

17. ATL - WR Calvin Ridley remains on sidelines

Source: The Atlanta Journal-Constitution - D. Orlando Ledbetter

Atlanta Falcons WR Calvin Ridley (hamstring) remains on the sideline during practice and he is unlikely to play in the preseason game Thursday, Aug. 8 against the Miami Dolphins.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

No need to rush Ridley back to the field, especially because he fought through some hamstring issues last year as a rookie. He is considered day-to-day with this injury.

18. IND - RB Marlon Mack will not play Thursday

Source: The Indianapolis Star - Joel A. Erickson

Indianapolis Colts RB Marlon Mack will not play in the preseason game Thursday, Aug. 8 against the Buffalo Bills.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

In two seasons in the NFL, Mack has never played a full 16-game season. He made it through 12 games in 2018 and the team doesn't need to expose him to more punishment in the exhibition season. Mack is the lead back for the Colts and Fantasy GMs are taking him off the board at RB18 (3.09) in 12-team PPR leagues.

19. SEA - TE Jacob Hollister impressing in camp

Source: The Athletic - Michael-Shawn Dugar

Seattle Seahawks TE Jacob Hollister has 'been as impressive as anyone on the roster' in the receiving game so far during training camp, according to beat writer Michael-Shawn Dugar.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hollister has always had talent, and thought the Patriots might have something in him as a dynasty prospect. Then, they traded him to Seattle and now the Seahawks get to see if he can develop into a quality starter. Hollister is competing with guys like Will Dissly and Nick Vannett for snaps in 2019.

20. PIT - QB Ben Roethlisberger to rest Friday

Source: - Bob Labriola

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger will rest and not play in the preseason game Friday, Aug. 9 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

No surprise here. There's no need to get Roethlisberger exposed to danger in an exhibition game.
