Chargers | Bolts battered and bounced by Patriots    Sun Jan 11, 10:47 PM

Los Angeles Chargers QB Justin Herbert completed 19 of his 31 passes for 159 yards, rushed 10 times for 57 yard and was sacked six times and lost a fumble in a 16-3 loss to the New England Patriots in the Wild Card game. RB Omarion Hampton attempted to play through an ankle injury but lost a yard on his only carry, and RB Kimani Vidal rushed 11 times for 31 yards and caught two passes for 20 yards. WR Ladd McConkey had three grabs for a team-high 32 yards, and TE Oronde Gadsden II chipped in three catches for 20 yards. WR Keenan Allen finished with three catches for 25 yards on a team-high eight targets, and Quentin Johnston hauled in three passes for 20 yards. LB Daiyan Henley logged a game-high 13 tackles, including nine solo stops, and added an interception, and LB Odafe Oweh delivered four tackles and three sacks. DT Teair Tart piled up four tackles, including two tackles for loss, a sack and a pass defensed.

49ers | San Francisco advances to NFC Divisional Round    Sun Jan 11, 07:45 PM

San Francisco 49ers QB Brock Purdy completed 18-of-31 passes for 262 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions, while running nine times for 24 yards, in the NFC Wild Card game road win against the Philadelphia Eagles. RB Christian McCaffrey rushed 15 times for 48 yards, while posting six receptions for 66 yards and two touchdowns, including a 29-yard TD from WR Jauan Jennings. The latter had one reception for 45 yards on three targets and the scoring strike. WR Demarcus Robinson led the way with six receptions for 111 yards and a touchdown on seven targets, while FB Kyle Juszczyk absorbed all four targets for 49 yards, with TE Jake Tonges posted a 14-yard catch on three targets, stepping in for TE George Kittle (Achilles), who had one grab for six yards before leaving with a ruptured Achilles. LB Garret Wallow had 11 total stops with five solo tackles and a pass defensed, while LB Eric Kendricks, a former Eagle, had 10 total stops with seven solo tackles, two stops for loss and a pass break-up to seal the win.

Footballguys view: The 49ers offense was getting pushed around early, but Brock Purdy completed a few big plays and the defense make enough stops to keep the team hanging around. A trick play perfect Jauan Jennings throw to Christian McCaffrey for a touchdown gave the 49ers the lead in the second half, and then McCaffrey caught another score to regain the lead in the waning minutes. Losing George Kittle to an achilles tear is a big blow to the offense. The 49ers were only able to muster three points against the Seahawks back in Week 18 with the #1 seed on the line, and that's where they will go in the divisional round.

Bills | Buffalo advances to Divisional Round    Sun Jan 11, 03:49 PM

Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen went 28-for-35 for 273 yards and one touchdown against the Jacksonville Jaguars in the Wild Card playoff game and also rushed for 33 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries during the game. RB James Cook rushed for 46 yards on 15 carries and also caught two passes for five yards. WR Khalil Shakir caught 12 passes for 82 yards on 12 targets. WR Brandin Cooks caught three passes for 58 yards on five targets, while WR Keon Coleman caught one pass for 36 yards on one target. TE Dawson Knox caught three passes for 30 yards on three targets, while TE Dalton Kincaid caught three passes for 28 yards and one touchdown on five targets. LB Shaq Thompson recorded six solo tackles, eight total tackles and one interception during the game.

Footballguys view: Allen was his typical superhero self in the postseason despite two trips to the medical tent. His decision making was cold-blooded and he created many of the best plays for the Bills pass offense with creativity and toughness. The Jaguars defense didn't have many lapses, but Allen had the look of a quarterback who is not going to be stopped on potential game-winning drives. The Jaguars excellent run defense predictably bottled up Cook, but he could have a big game against Denver next week. Shakir was "what the defense gave" Allen on many dropbacks, and he converted a few first downs with grit and guile. The team lost Gabe Davis to an injury during the game, but that didn't stop Allen from carrying them to victory. This might have been the toughest opponent they will face on the AFC side of the bracket.

Browns | Devin Bush fined    Sun Jan 11, 10:43 AM

Cleveland Browns LB Devin Bush was fined $10,000 by the National Football League for committing an act of unsportsmanlike conduct in Week 18's game. During the first quarter, Bush intercepted a pass from Cincinnati Bengals QB Joe Burrow, returned it for a touchdown and made an obscene gesture while celebrating the play.

Bears | T.J. Edwards has fractured fibula    Sun Jan 11, 09:14 AM

Chicago Bears LB T.J. Edwards (fibula) will miss the remainder of the postseason due to a fractured fibula, according to head coach Ben Johnson. He sustained the injury during the second quarter of the team's Wild Card game against the Green Bay Packers and needed to be helped off the field before being taken into the locker room on a cart.

Footballguys view: The Bears will have to find a way to slow down the Rams offense without one of their best linebackers. Fortunately (or unfortunately), backup D'Marco Jackson has started four games this season, and he played most of the game Saturday night. The Rams balance on offense will test Jackson and the rest of this inconsistent defense.

Panthers | Carolina comes up short in playoff opener    Sat Jan 10, 08:04 PM

Carolina Panthers QB Bryce Young completed 21 of his 40 passes for 264 yards, a touchdown and an interception, and he rushed three times for 24 yards and a touchdown in a 34-31 loss to the Los Angeles Rams in the Wild Card playoff game. RB Chuba Hubbard rushed 13 times for 46 yards and two touchdowns and caught two passes for 13 yards, and Rico Dowdle chipped in nine rushing yards on five carries and caught one pass for six yards. WR Jalen Coker delivered nine catches for a game-high 134 yards and a score, WR Tetairoa McMillan caught five passes for 81 yards, and TE Tommy Tremble secured three receptions for 22 yards. LB Christian Rozeboom led the way with nine tackles, including five solo stops, and CB Mike Jackson added three tackles, four passes defensed and an interception.

Footballguys view: Coker and Hubbard were the players to watch here. Hubbard scored twice and ran hard to keep the Panthers in this game. Coker finished with over 100 yards receiving and seemed to make a big play every time he touched the ball. Panthers fans can hold their heads high in defeat. The Panthers put up a fight and can be excited about what they're building for the future.

49ers | Fred Warner has small chance to return    Mon Jan 5, 03:28 PM

San Francisco 49ers LB Fred Warner (ankle) has not been ruled out for the season, but head coach Kyle Shanahan said Warner will not be a possible option until the NFC Championship game at the earliest.

Footballguys view: The 49ers are suddenly thin at linebacker. Warner hasn't played since dislocating and fracturing his right ankle in Week 6, and his replacement, Tatum Bethune, is now out for the season after tearing his groin in the Week 18 loss to the Seahawks. Shanahan said Bethune might need surgery. Eric Kendricks will now take over. Linebackers Dee Winters (ankle) and Luke Gifford (quad) will be evaluated later this week.
