Steelers | Pittsburgh signs two after tryouts Thu Jun 4, 01:21 PM
Free agent TE Robert Tonyan (Chiefs) and LB Jamin Davis (Raiders) signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday, June 4. No terms of the deal were disclosed.
Footballguys view: It seems incredulous to remember that Tonyan had an 11 touchdown season with the Packers back in 2020. After one target over the last two seasons (with two different teams), it's safe to say Tonyan's best days are behind him.

Green Bay Packers DE Micah Parsons (knee) said he still has four more months of rehab before he can consider returning to the field. He said he underwent a procedure on his meniscus in addition to his anterior cruciate ligament repair.
Footballguys view: Because of that second procedure, Parsons said a nine-month recovery before he's able to play is locked in place. His initial ACL repair was performed on Dec. 29, with nine months after that being Sept. 29. That could put the Week 4 game against the Buccaneers in play. But the Week 5 against the Bears or the Week 6 against the Cowboys could be more realistic, if not the Week 7 divisional contest against the Lions. With this timeline, Parsons will likely start training camp and the regular season on the physically unable to perform list.

Pittsburgh Steelers LB Alex Highsmith (illness) is not participating in practice Wednesday, June 3, because of an illness.
Footballguys view: Highsmith's absence came just one day after Nick Herbig's massive $100 million deal. But Steelers Senior Director of Communications Burt Lauten announced that Highsmith wasn't present at Wednesday's practice due to an illness. Lauten also added that Highsmith will continue to be at the practice facility moving forward, all but ending any rumors about the potential absence being related to Herbig's new contract. We'll be watching for more.

Pittsburgh Steelers LB Nick Herbig and the Steelers have reportedly agreed on a five-year contract extension worth $103.67 million, including $42 million guaranteed, according to a source on Tuesday, June 2.
Footballguys view: This is a very reasonable rate for an edge rusher - only about half of what the Steelers paid TJ Watt on his most recent deal. There was some speculation that the Steelers could trade Herbig or Alex Highsmith - who they have under contract for two more years at $14.5 and $15 million. It's possible teams will come calling about Highsmith in light of this.

Detroit Lions LB Jack Campbell met with reporters for the first time since receiving a four-year, $81 million extension which has him under contract through 2030. He was the team's most consistent defender in 2025, posting a team-high 176 total tackles, nine tackles for loss, five sacks and four passes defensed. 'Let's be realistic here, like, I already have more than enough. So, for me, it was more about the principle of I just want to be in the elite category, because I feel like I'm an elite linebacker and that's the way [Lions GM] Brad [Holmes] saw it and that's the way everyone upstairs saw it...I feel like, for me, I don't need to be the highest paid,' Campbell said.

Pittsburgh Steelers LB Patrick Queen is entering the final year of his contract, and an extension between the two sides is not considered close. 'I've got a good amount of money coming in this year,' Queen said. 'So, at the end of the day, I couldn't care less. If they do want to extend, cool. If not, cool. At the end of the day, it's as a business.' He enters his seventh NFL season, and he hasn't missed a start across four years with the Baltimore Ravens, and his first two seasons with the Steelers. He is looking to have a big season, but will have to adjust to a new defense under Patrick Graham. He was working with LB Payton Wilson to help get him up to speed with the new defensive coordinator's plan.

San Francisco 49ers LB Dre Greenlaw is happy to be back after one injury-filled season with the Denver Broncos, and he and LB Fred Warner are projected to start together. 'It's really cool when I talk to the team, to sit back there and see those guys shoulder to shoulder,' head coach Kyle Shanahan said. 'I've seen them like that their whole careers together.' Greenlaw is under contract for $6 million for one season, and $7.5 million based on incentives. He has not played a full season since 2019, but he did make 15 starts in consecutive seasons while posting at least 120 tackles in both 2022 and 2023.

Pittsburgh Steelers LB Patrick Queen is likely entering his final year with the club, in the opinion of Steelers insider Mark Kaboly. Queen, who signed a three-year contract in March 2024, is set to become a free agent after the 2026 season and has been the subject of multiple trade rumors this offseason.

Green Bay Packers DE Micah Parsons (knee) will likely start training camp on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list, according to head coach Matt LaFleur.
Footballguys view: ESPN's Adam Schefter recently suggested that Parson is a candidate to start the 2026 regular season on the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform list. If so, he'd miss at least the first six games, so his progress is worth watching when camp opens. The Packers don't have another proven edge rusher after they traded Rashan Gary to the Cowboys in the offseason. We'll be monitoring the reports on 2023 first round pick Lukas Van Ness and this year's fourth round pick Dani Dennis-Sutton to see if edge rush help is on the way while Parsons is on the mend.

Detroit Lions LB Jack Campbell agreed to a contract extension with the team on Thursday, May 21. Terms of the deal were not disclosed initially.
Footballguys view: The Lions were criticized when they took Campbell, an off ball linebacker, in the first round, but he has settled in as a franchise cornerstone, and off ball linebacker has one of the cheapest going rates for top of the market contracts as any position. That also goes for Jahmyr Gibbs soon-to-come contract extension. Together that frees up money compared to teams that are signing wide receivers, cornerbacks, edge rushers, and offensive tackles to long term deals.

Dallas Cowboys LB DeMarvion Overshown (knee) said he is excited to enter the 2026 season fully healthy. 'So the fact that I get to go through the full offseason as a healthy man and coming into training camp healthy, I feel like people ain't seen my best yet,' Overshown said. 'So I know it's going to be one of my best years.'

Dallas Cowboys LB DeMarvion Overshown (knee) said that he is completely healthy and is no longer wearing a knee brace. He missed the bulk of the 2025 season because of a torn anterior cruciate ligament, a torn medial collateral ligament and a torn posterior cruciate ligament in his knee.
Footballguys view: The Cowboys could also get much bigger contributions from 2025 third round pick Shavon Revel, a long, fast corner who was also on the mend from previous injuries last year. This defense is going to get faster and more aggressive, and they have a rising star Christian Parker as their new defensive coordinator. The Dallas D/ST could be a factor in fantasy leagues this year.

Green Bay Packers DE Micah Parsons (knee) is a candidate to start the 2026 season on the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform list, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Adam Schefter.
Footballguys view: Minnesota, the Jets, Atlanta, Tampa Bay, Chicago, and Dallas would dodge Parsons if he starts the season on the PUP list.

Carolina Panthers QB Bryce Young had his fifth-year extension picked up, but the Panthers are reportedly talking through an extension and GM Dan Morgan will be in touch with Young's agent, according to an interview on NFL Network on Tuesday, May 12.
Footballguys view: The Panthers have Young under contract for two more years. ESPN's Dan Graziano noted on Tuesday that the team "doesn't seem in a huge hurry" to work out an extension with the former first overall pick. The hesitancy on Carolina's part stems from the fact that the QB market got absolutely nuked with young quarterbacks signing record-setting deals, and it needs to adjust back. As AtoZSports' Ken Noble suggested, the Panthers are smart by letting the QB market cool back down before paying Young. For our purposes, Young remains a low-end QB2.

Seattle Seahawks LB Derick Hall had 8.0 sacks, six tackles for loss and two forced fumbles in 2025 across 14 regular-season games, and he had two sacks in the Super Bowl victory, including a strip-sack fumble. He could be an extension candidate, especially with LB Uchenna Nwosu missing significant time due to injuries in recent seasons, LB DeMarcus Lawrence reportedly considering retirement earlier this season, and LB Dante Fowler Jr. turning 32 in August.

Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst shared that DE Micah Parsons is recovering well and the team expects him to be 'back early in the season.'
Footballguys view: Parsons suffered a torn ACL in December, cutting off his strong first season with Green Bay. He tallied 12.5 sacks with 12 tackles for loss and 27 quarterback hits, earning AP first-team All-Pro honors for the third time, despite playing just 14 games. We'll be watching his progress closely in coming weeks.

Houston Texans LB Azeez Al-Shaair agreed to terms on a three-year contract extension with the Texans Wednesday, April 29. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Al-Shaair had his first Pro Bowl season in 2025 after totaling 103 tackles, two interceptions, and nine pass deflections. He wore the "green dot" on defense as he relayed the playcalls from Texans defensive coordinator Matt Burke for the No. 1-ranked total defense (277.2 yards per game) and No. 2 scoring defense (17.4 points per game) last season. There were also times when Al-Shaair called the plays himself when the opposing offense was in hurry-up mode, so he's an important contributor.

Pittsburgh Steelers LBs Nick Herbig and Alex Highsmith are candidates to be traded during the 2026 NFL Draft because of the team's surplus of pass rushers, in the opinion of Yahoo!
