Chargers | Justin Herbert hit more than any other QB Tue Jan 6, 11:05 PM
Los Angeles Chargers QB Justin Herbert was hit 129 during the regular season, most in the NFL. 'He has to be the most insanely mentally tough dude of all time,' teammate LB Khalil Mack said. He was pressured on 42.8 percent of his 615 dropbacks, the highest rate in the league, according to TruMedia. He was hit on 21 percent of those dropbacks, while he was sacked 54 times. Herbert set a career high with 439 scramble yards this season.

The Detroit Lions are considering David Blough, a former Lions quarterback, for the vacant offensive coordinator position. Blough was assistant QB coach with Washington, but filled in as QB coach after Tavita Pritchard left for the Stanford head coaching position.

Green Bay Packers CB Bo Melton (knee) did not practice on Tuesday, Jan. 6. DL Warren Brinson (foot), S Javon Bullard (knee), LB Edgerrin Cooper (shoulder), LB Nick Niemann (pectoral), OT Zach Tom (back, knee, WR Dontayvion Wicks (concussion), OG John Williams (back) and QB Malik Willis (shoulder, hamstring) were limited. WR Matthew Golden (Achilles) and DE Lukas Van Ness (foot) practiced in full. The Packers held a walk-through on Tuesday, so the report is an estimation.

Green Bay Packers QB Clayton Tune was waived on Tuesday, Jan. 6.
Footballguys view: The Packers also signed quarterback Desmond Ridder to the active roster from the practice squad. Ridder will be the third quarterback for the playoffs, behind starter Jordan Love and backup Malik Willis.

Green Bay Packers QB Malik Willis (shoulder, hamstring) is expected to be healthy enough to backup Jordan Love, according to head coach Matt LaFleur.
Footballguys view: Willis dealt with a right shoulder injury in the final weeks of the season and was inactive for their Week 18 loss to the Vikings. He offers considerable upside if something happens to Love. Remember, Willis will be a free agent after the season, and he likely showed enough working in relief of Love this season to draw heavy interest on the open market.
Atlanta Falcons QB Kirk Cousins agreed to a contract revision Tuesday, Jan. 6, on the final two years of his contract. As part of the restructure, there is now a guarantee in the amount of $67.9 million for the 2027 season that vests March 13. The restructure also included reducing his 2026 base salary from a non-guaranteed $35 million to just $2.1 million, a difference of $32.9 million. That amount equals the increase in his 2027 compensation that this amended deal includes, just split differently.
Footballguys view: While Cousins and the Falcons -- who are searching for a new general manager and head coach -- could agree to another amended deal to keep him with Atlanta, one logical possibility posited by salary cap experts is the team moving on from Cousins before March 13 via a post-June 1 release. He appeared in 10 games this season, starting the final seven. Cousins, who threw 10 touchdown passes and five interceptions in seven starts, said after the Week 18 win over the Saints that he would like to keep playing and kept the door open to return to Atlanta.

Washington Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury mutually parted ways with the team Tuesday, Jan. 6.
Footballguys view: Kingsbury met with head coach Dan Quinn on Tuesday to discuss the future of the offense, and after their conversation, they mutually agreed to part ways. The move isn't a total surprise. As the Commanders spiraled in 2025, it became a real possibility that they could move on without him. According to The Athletic, a difference in philosophy between Kingsbury and general manager Adam Peters in the development of quarterback Jayden Daniels, who missed 10 games this season because of injuries, was an issue. Whatever the case, Washington will have a new playcaller for Daniels to adjust to this offseason.

Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray is not expected to return to the Cardinals next season, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, who said that he believes the team is 'planning to move on' from Murray, regardless of who is hired as the next head coach.
Footballguys view: This comes a day after GM Monti Ossenfort told reporters that Murray remains under contract and said that all options are on the table for what the team will do at the position in the future. But Schefter's belief adds to an already large body of speculation suggesting that Murray has played his last snap in Arizona. There are a lot of moving pieces here. Moving on from Murray would require the Cardinals to have a fallback plan that works for whoever the next coach will be. While there's contractual urgency to get this done, it's unlikely to be immediate.

Indianapolis Colts impending free-agent QB Daniel Jones is a player head coach Shane Steichen hopes returns to the team next season, and Steichen said he believes Jones wants to re-sign with the team.
Footballguys view: The obvious potential complication here is the torn Achilles' Jones sustained on Dec. 7, which ended his season. But Jones on Monday -- less than a month out from the injury and ensuing surgery -- expressed optimism in his recovery timeline. Jones finished his season having completed 68 percent of his passes for 3,101 yards with 19 touchdowns and eight interceptions as Jones and Steichen forged the sort of quarterback-playcaller mind-meld that teams across the NFL constantly seek but don't always find. We'll be watching this situation closely in coming weeks.

Cleveland Browns QB Shedeur Sanders made solid improvements this season but is still a work in progress, according to general manager Andrew Berry. Berry said he is not sure if the starting quarterback for next season is currently on the roster.
Footballguys view: Sanders completed 56.6 percent of his passes for 1,400 yards with seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions in his eight appearances with seven starts. He put together his first fourth-quarter comeback and game-winning drive with Sunday's 20-18 victory over the Bengals. With a new coach coming, it remains to be seen how Sanders will be viewed as he competes with Dillon Gabriel, Deshaun Watson, and any newcomer who's brought into the mix.
Cleveland Browns QB Deshaun Watson is expected to be on the 2026 roster at this point, but general manager Andrew Berry said the team will not need to make a final decision for a while.
Footballguys view: If Watson winds up being a part of the team in 2026, it will be interesting to see how Cleveland's new coach handles a potential competition between Watson, Shedeur Sanders, Dillon Gabriel, and any other quarterback the club acquires over the course of the offseason.

Cincinnati Bengals impending free-agent QB Joe Flacco said he is not considering retirement and hopes to play again next season.
Footballguys view: James Rapien of BengalsTalk.com reports that Flacco is open to returning to the Bengals, as long as the circumstances are right. He might want a chance to compete for a starting job with a team like the Dolphins, Cardinals, or Jets. Flacco went 1-5 for the Bengals, but he had 1,664 passing yards with 13 touchdowns and four interceptions. The Bengals being able to bring him back on a one-year deal to back up Joe Burrow would be the best-case scenario. Availability hasn't been Burrow's strength. Having Flacco ready to start a few weeks would be ideal for the Bengals.

Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa indicated that he is open to playing for a different team next season.
Footballguys view: When Tagovailoa was benched following a Dec. 15 loss to the Steelers, it seemed likely his time in Miami was coming to an end. Asked on Monday if he was hoping for a fresh start, Tagovailoa said, "That would be dope. I would be good with it." Tagovailoa is owed $54 million guaranteed in 2026. He could be released with a post-June 1 designation at the start of the new league year to split his $99.2 million cap charge over two years. Mike McDaniels' return as HC would all but guarantee Tua's departure. We'll watch for more on all this.

Tennessee Titans QB Cam Ward (shoulder) suffered an AC joint sprain in his shoulder in the season finale and will not require surgery.
Footballguys view: The No. 1 pick of the 2025 draft, Ward started all 17 games of his rookie campaign. He gained momentum as the season went on. Ward finished the season having completed 60 percent of his passes for 3,169 yards with 15 touchdowns and five interceptions. He did not throw a pick in any of his last four starts and threw only one in his previous nine starts. He threw multiple TD passes in four of his last five. The Titans have started searching for their next head coach, who will be charged with getting the most out of Ward's development.
Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor and general manager Duke Tobin will return in 2026.
Footballguys view: The Bengals missed the playoffs for the third straight season as franchise quarterback Joe Burrow missed nine games with turf toe, finishing 6-11. In seven seasons, Taylor has had two playoff appearances (2021, 2022) and is the only coach in franchise history to make multiple appearances in the conference championship game. With 116 games, he's the third-longest-tenured coach in franchise history. In seven years, Taylor has an overall record of 52-63-1 during the regular season and 5-2 in the postseason. Reports have suggested Burrow, Ja'Marr Chase, and Tee Higgins all advocated for Taylor's return.

Washington Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury may not return for a third season in his current post - regardless of whether he lands another job first - according to a source.
Footballguys view: While he's already been requested for an interview with the Titans, the reports began Saturday morning, when The Athletic reported that Washington has had internal conversations about potentially moving on from Kingsbury even without a head-coaching offer, citing a possible disconnect with general manager Adam Peters. Another source familiar with Washington's internal dynamics told longtime Commanders reporter Ben Standig the situation was "Intriguing theater." We'll be following this one closely, but it won't be surprising if Kingsbury is a candidate for multiple openings.

Retired and former Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan - now working as an analyst for CBS Sports - is being strongly considered for a high-profile, front-office role with the team, according to multiple sources. The role being discussed is reportedly similar to the special assistant to the owner and CEO position that Chris Spielman currently holds with the Detroit Lions.

Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson completed 11 of 18 passes for 238 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception in Week 18 versus the Pittsburgh Steelers. Jackson also ran four times for nine yards.
Footballguys view: Jackson, dealing with a painful back contusion, threw a pair of touchdowns to Zay Flowers in the fourth quarter. Each of Flowers' TDs -- from 50 and 64 yards -- put Baltimore in front. Jackson's first touchdown pass to Flowers was a thing of beauty. It was a rare glimpse of the playmaking Jackson we all invested in this summer. It seems reasonable to believe those looking to buy the dip will get a value in 2026. The question is, will the rebound be there?

Miami Dolphins QB Quinn Ewers (knee) completed 16-of-23 passes for 137 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Week 18 against the New England Patriots, while running for a yard. Link to storyBuffalo Bills QB Mitchell Trubisky completed 22-of-29 passes for 259 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions in Week 18 against the New York Jets, coming on for QB Josh Allen after a single snap.
Footballguys view: It was a strong performance on a day in which the playoff-bound Bills (12-5) rested a majority of their starters. Trubisky distributed the ball nicely, hitting four different players -- Gabriel Davis, Ty Johnson, Dawson Knox, and Ray Davis -- with scoring passes. Sunday's win, coupled with the Los Angeles Chargers' loss at Denver, led to Buffalo moving up one spot in clinching the No. 6 seed. The Bills will travel to play the AFC South champion Jaguars in the wild-card round next weekend.

New York Jets QB Brady Cook completed 11-of-22 passes for 60 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in Week 18 against the Buffalo Bills, while adding three runs for seven yards.
Footballguys view: Cook has looked overwhelmed, albeit in an offense that has been one of the league's worst all season. The Jets will bring in at least two quarterbacks via free agency or the draft this offseason.
Houston Texans QB Davis Mills completed 3 of 9 for 36 yards in a Week 18 win over the Indianapolis Colts.

Atlanta Falcons QB Kirk Cousins went 18-for-32 for 180 yards, one touchdown and one interception against the New Orleans Saints in Week 18.
Footballguys view: Cousins rattled off four straight wins to end the season to finish tied with the Panthers and the Bucs in the standings. They lost the three-team tiebreaker because they were swept by the Panthers. Michael Penix is uncertain for Week 1 next season. The Falcons have already guaranteed a $10 roster bonus for Cousins, but his $35 million salary is a lot for a player who didn't seem to be in their future plans a month ago.

Minnesota Vikings QB Max Brosmer completed 7-of-8 passes for 57 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions in relief of the injured QB J.J. McCarthy (hand) in Week 18 against the Green Bay Packers.
Link to storyIndianapolis Colts QB Riley Leonard completed 21 of 34 for 270 yards and two touchdowns against one interception in a Week 18 loss to the Houston Texans. He ran three times for 21 yards and a score.
Footballguys view: Leonard played well enough to keep the Colts in this game until the end, although part of it came after the Texans pulled some starters, including CJ Stroud. The Colts should consider him a strong candidate to back up whomever they sign in free agency, which could be Daniel Jones, allowing Leonard to run the first team offense for most of the offseason, if not camp. Leonard is getting on the superflex dynasty radar with this performance and the Colts instability at quarterback.
New Orleans Saints QB Tyler Shough went 23-for-35 for 259 yards, one touchdown and one interception against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 18. He also rushed for 34 yards and one touchdown on three carries during the game.
Footballguys view: Shough emerging as the answer for the Saints at quarterback was one of the most unexpected developments of the season. He and head coach Kellen Moore are a great combination, and the team should lock up #1 receiver Chris Olave as he heads into his fifth-year option season. Shough was a fantasy QB1 in the second half of the season and he is probably still underrated in dynasty leagues.
New York Giants QB Jaxson Dart completed 22 of 32 for 231 yards and two touchdowns and ran five times for 32 yards in a Week 18 win over the Dallas Cowboys.
Footballguys view: There's no doubt that Dart outperformed expectations in his rookie year, but he will still go into the offseason with uncertainty at head coach and questions about whether he should be safer with his decisions as a runner. Dart was a strong fantasy QB1 at times without Malik Nabers, so we could be underestimating his dynasty value.
Green Bay Packers QB Clayton Tune started in Week 18 against the Minnesota Vikings, completing 6-of-11 passes for just 34 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions, while running four times for 23 yards.

Cincinnati Bengals QB Joe Burrow completed 29-of-39 passes for 236 yards, three touchdowns and one interception in the Week 18 game against the Cleveland Browns, while running for 17 yards on two attempts.
Footballguys view: This was one of Burrow's better games against the Browns stout defense, and it would have been more than enough to win if Cleveland hadn't scored two defensive touchdowns, including one on a Burrow interception. This season reinforced both that Burrow is one of the elite quarterbacks in both NFL and fantasy terms, and that he is more likely to suffer significant injuries than his peers.
