Link to storyCleveland Browns QB Deshaun Watson emerged from voluntary minicamp last week with an edge over QB Shedeur Sanders in the starting quarterback competition, according to sources.
Footballguys view: One year after calling the trade for Watson a "big swing-and-miss," Browns owner Jimmy Haslam said in March that Watson has a "great chance" and a "fresh start" with offensive-minded first-year coach Todd Monken. According to Cleveland.com's Mary Kay Cabot, Monken hopes to declare -- or at least identify -- his starter by the end of Browns minicamp (June 11). Shedeur Sanders has time to close the gap with a former three-time Pro Bowler. But as things stand now, Watson is the most likely candidate to be atop the depth chart heading into training camp.

Denver Broncos QB Bo Nix had a follow-up, cleanup procedure on his fractured right ankle last week. The 26-year-old broke it in the Broncos' divisional-round victory over Buffalo, and is 'firmly on track to be ready for the start of training camp,' according to the report.
Footballguys view: Nix fractured his right ankle near the end of the Broncos' divisional round playoff victory over the Bills. Before his Jan. 20 surgery, Nix called his injury a "simple fracture" that would require only a 4-6 week recovery. He did not mention a necessary follow-up procedure, and team owner Greg Penner said in March that the Broncos were confident Nix would participate in organized team activities as the quarterback was ahead of schedule in his rehab. Now, the timeline is training camp as the Broncos will be "conservative" with his participation in the offseason program. We'll be watching for more.
Philadelphia Eagles A.J. Brown will likely be traded to the New England Patriots for a first-round draft pick when the trade 'comes together' on June 1, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Footballguys view: The two sides have discussed a deal, according to Schefter, but neither has been willing to commit to it before June 1 -- when the Eagles could split Brown's $43 million dead salary cap charge between this year and next. But everything is lining up for a move to happen. The Eagles drafted rookie wide receiver Makai Lemon in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft, and they also signed three veterans in Elijah Moore, Marquise "Hollywood" Brown, and Dontayvion Wicks. Meanwhile, the Patriots passed completely on drafting a wide receiver. Stay tuned.

Free agent (Steelers) WR Scotty Miller met with the Detroit Lions on Tuesday, April 29. He will also try out for the Chicago Bears next week.
Footballguys view: Miller originally signed with the Steelers back in May, 2024. He spent the season with Pittsburgh but was released in January of 2025. The Steelers then brought Miller later that month. Miller appeared in 11 games last season and even got one start. Miller finished with nine receptions for 62 receiving yards. The Lions don't have a pressing need at receiver right now. Their three starters are Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams, and Isaac TeSlaa. In total, Detroit has nine receivers on its roster, so the team may be updating its scouting reports on future additions.

Los Angeles Chargers WR Quentin Johnston had his fifth-year option exercised by the Chargers on Tuesday, April 28.
Footballguys view: The move fully guarantees Johnston's $18 million salary for 2027. The Chargers made Johnston a first-round pick in 2023. He led the team in touchdowns the past two seasons and posted a career-high 735 receiving yards in 14 games last season. Johnston has 144 catches for 1,877 yards and 18 touchdowns since entering the league. The Chargers have a deep wide receivers room with Ladd McConkey, Johnston, Tre' Harris, and KeAndre Lambert-Smith.

Philadelphia Eagles TE Jaheim Bell was waived on Tuesday, April 28.
Link to storyFree-agent QB Russell Wilson (Giants) was hosted for a visit by the New York Jets and is reportedly being considered as an option to be Geno Smith's backup, according to The Athletic's Zack Rosenblatt on Tuesday, April 28.
Footballguys view: As the Jets sorted through potential backup options -- which also included Carson Wentz at one point -- GM Darren Mougey and head coach Aaron Glenn discussed potential options with Smith. Per Rosenblatt's source, Smith mentioned that he enjoyed working with Wilson when they were with the Seahawks in 2020-21, when Smith backed up Wilson. We'll watch for more.

Vanderbilt QB Diego Pavia is signing a three-year deal with the Baltimore Ravens on Tuesday, April 28. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: As reported here on Monday, Pavia was previously invited to participate in the Ravens' rookie minicamp on a tryout basis. The Ravens also agreed to sign UDFA quarterback Joe Fagnano out of UConn earlier on Tuesday. That gives the club a pair of young QBs behind starter Lamar Jackson and backup Tyler Huntley.
New Orleans Saints RB Evan Hull was waived by the team on Tuesday, April 28.

Chiefs vice president of player personnel Ryne Nutt says the team was 'shocked' they could select RB Emmett Johnson in the fifth round of the 2026 NFL Draft.
Footballguys view: According to SBNation's Ron Kopp Jr., Johnson is projected to be the immediate backup to free-agent addition Ken Walker III, who will handle the lead role. But don't be surprised if Johnson earns his way onto the field on pass downs or in other situations. While there's a path to a role here, Footballguy Dave Kluge, in the 2026 Rookie Draft Guide 3.0, suggests "the floor for Johnson is low."
Free-agent QB Aaron Rodgers (Steelers) received a right-of-first-refusal tender Tuesday, April 28, which means he can accept a 10% raise off last year's salary, which would pay him about $15 million this season. It also means the Steelers can match any offer he signs with another team, and forbidding him the ability to sign with another team once training camp begins.
Footballguys view: Rodgers, who spent the 2025 season with the Steelers after a prolonged offseason courtship, has been weighing his options for the upcoming season over the past three months. GM Omar Khan and coach Mike McCarthy indicated last week that there isn't a timeline or a deadline to hear from the 42-year-old quarterback. The Steelers selected QB Drew Allar in the third round of the NFL draft, but McCarthy said the move was unrelated to Rodgers' decision. But today's move is directly related. Essentially, Rodgers is locked in with the Steelers for when he decides if he wants to play.

Los Angeles Rams first-round pick QB Ty Simpson said he had private meetings with head coach Sean McVay before they selected him in the first round of the NFL Draft.
Footballguys view: "They wanted to make it private and didn't want people to know that they were interested," Simpson said Monday via ESPN's Sarah Barshop. "I was trying to be on script and do what everybody told me and not to tell anybody." Telling the QB not to say anything about meeting with McVay makes sense. It also adds further context to McVay's body language immediately after the pick, which made it seem as if the coach wasn't on board with selecting Simpson 13th overall. All of this looks increasingly like an effort to be respectful of current starter Matthew Stafford.
Arizona Cardinals RB Tyler Allgeier signed with the Cardinals in the offseason because he believed he would be the lead running back.
Footballguys view: The arrival of Jeremiyah Love, the third pick overall in last week's draft, puts Allgeier in familiar territory. He spent the past three years playing behind Bijan Robinson in Atlanta. Barring injury issues for Love, Allgeier has almost no path to a front-line fantasy role this season. All that said, Allgeier did benefit from a goal-line role in Atlanta. He scored a career-high eight touchdowns last season. We may see a similar role if the Cardinals find themselves near the goal line this fall. For now, Allgeier is RB48 on the Footballguys projections. Love opens as RB10.
Free-agent WR Jauan Jennings (49ers) has been receiving interest from the Miami Dolphins this offseason, but the Dolphins to not have the salary cap space to sign him at this point, according to a source.
Footballguys view: The Dolphins, who traded Jaylen Waddle and released Tyreek Hill and Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, have been adding wideouts on the cheap since. They signed Jalen Tolbert and Tutu Atwell in the first wave of free agency, then selected three -- Caleb Douglas, Chris Bell, and Kevin Coleman Jr. -- in last week's NFL Draft. While it's a reach financially, if he lands in Miami, Jennings, who caught a career-high nine touchdowns with the Niners last season, would likely be the team's top wideout.

Buffalo Bills WR Keon Coleman has received trade interest this offseason, but general manager Brandon Beane said the team is not interested in trading Coleman.
Footballguys view: Coleman has had two inconsistent seasons with the Bills. He was disciplined last November for being late to a meeting and was a healthy scratch for four games. By the end of 2025, Coleman was Buffalo's sixth wide receiver. He had 38 catches for 404 yards and four touchdowns in 13 games this past season. Even if he's sticking around, the team used a fourth-round pick this year on UConn wide receiver Skyler Bell to add to a receiver room that also includes DJ Moore, Khalil Shakir, and Joshua Palmer.

Terms of the contracts were not disclosed.
Link to storyFree-agent WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling (Steelers) agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the Dallas Cowboys Monday, April 27, according to a source. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: As CBSSports.com noted, Valdes-Scantling appeared in 10 regular-season games with the 49ers and Steelers last season, finishing with a combined 14 catches for 120 yards and one touchdown. The 31-year-old is joining his fifth team in the last two years and will attempt to win a job with Dallas this summer. He'll compete with Ryan Flournoy, KaVontae Turpin, Jonathan Mingo, and others behind CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens.

Link to storySeattle Seahawks RB Cam Akers was released Monday, April 27.
Footballguys view: Akers, a former second-round pick of the Rams, joined the Seahawks last season and appeared in three regular-season games, as well as Seattle's NFC championship game win over the Rams. With Akers no longer on the team, the Seahawks have six running backs on the roster: Returning players Zach Charbonnet, George Holani, Kenny McIntosh, Jacardia Wright; free-agent addition Emanuel Wilson, and first-round pick Jadarian Price. Charbonnet is recovering from a torn ACL and isn't expected back until well into the regular season.

Link to storyUndrafted free-agent WR Rashad Rochelle (Indiana State) has been invited to participate in the Carolina Panthers rookie minicamp on a tryout basis.
Link to storyDallas Cowboys franchise free-agent WR George Pickens has not signed his tender offer at this point.
Footballguys view: ESPN.com's Todd Archer added in the replies to his initial post that the news isn't that Pickens is refusing to sign, just that he hasn't yet. Once he does, Pickens will make a guaranteed $27.3 million this season, and he will report to the mandatory minicamp in June and training camp or be subject to fines. It also opens up the possibility of Pickens being traded, although the Cowboys say that won't happen. For now, as The Sporting News suggests, this is a situation where the timeline is wonky, but the outcome may still be fine. Stay tuned for more.
Minnesota Vikings WR Jordan Addison had his fifth-year option picked up Monday, April 27.
Footballguys view: Addison is now set to make $18 million guaranteed in the final year of his rookie deal. The No. 23 overall pick of the 2023 draft, Addison has been productive in each of his three seasons, playing alongside one of the league's top receivers in Justin Jefferson. In 2025, Addison caught 42 passes for 610 yards with three touchdowns in 14 games. Over the course of his three seasons, Addison has 175 receptions for 2,396 yards with 22 touchdowns. While he's best viewed as a fantasy WR4, having Kyler Murray as his QB could push Addison closer to WR3 territory.
