Panthers | Wednesday practice report for Carolina Wed Sep 27, 03:34 PM
Carolina Panthers LB Frankie Luvu (hip), OT Taylor Moton (ankle) and FS Xavier Woods (hamstring) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Sept. 27. Updating a previous report, Carolina Panthers QB Bryce Young (ankle) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Sept. 27.
Footballguys view: Young missed last week's game against Seattle, and veteran QB Andy Dalton moved the offense effectively through the air (361 passing yards) in the loss. This week, it looks like the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft is going to be out there again. We'll see if he structures his targets differently after watching from the sidelines. Dalton made guys like WR Adam Thielen (11-145-1) and WR DJ Chark (4-86-1) viable fantasy plays. Young against the Vikings in Week 4 is only a wait-and-see option for Fantasy GMs - even in start-2QB/Superflex leagues. |
Carolina Panthers WR Jonathan Mingo (concussion) was limited during practice Wednesday, Sept. 27.
Link to storyCarolina Panthers RB Miles Sanders (groin) was limited during practice Wednesday, Sept. 27.
Footballguys view: Sanders' carries have gone down (18,14,9) each week this season. However, his work as a receiver out of the backfield keeps him involved in the offense. He's a talented back, but Sanders has been banged up with a pectoral injury that limited him last week and now a groin injury this week. Friday will be the big day to see if Sanders can practice as the team gets ready to take on the winless Vikings in Week 4. |

Carolina Panthers WR DJ Chark Jr. (non-injury) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Sept. 27.
Footballguys view: Chark is getting a day of rest here. Let's see what he can do on Friday, and Fantasy GMs also need to monitor the status of QB Bryce Young. If veteran backup QB Andy Dalton plays, that could mean more robust numbers for the passing game including guys like Chark. With Dalton slinging the rock in Week 3, Chark caught four passes for 86 yards and one touchdown. Dalton targeted Chark 11 times, while Young (in Week 2) targeted Chark just one time. |

Carolina Panthers LB Frankie Luvu (hip) won't practice on Wednesday, Sept. 27.

Carolina Panthers QB Bryce Young (ankle) will practice Wednesday, Sept. 27.

Carolina Panthers QB Bryce Young (ankle) is not practicing Thursday, Sept. 21.
Footballguys view: That's back-to-back practices missed for the no.1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft. Young has struggled this season, and the Panthers have not been fun to watch. If Young can't play against the Seahawks in Week 3, veteran Andy Dalton would get the start. |
Carolina Panthers LB Brian Burns (ankle), LB Justin Houston (calf) and LB Chandler Wooten (knee) were limited during practice Wednesday, Sept. 20. LB Amare Barno (thigh) fully participated in practice.

Carolina Panthers RB Miles Sanders (pectoral) was limited in practice on Wednesday, Sept. 20.
Footballguys view: Sanders was not as effective in Week 2 (43 yards) as he was in Week 1 (72 rushing yards). We'll see if he can get a full practice in by Friday as he deals with this pectoral injury. If he's out there in Week 3 on the road against the Seahawks, Sanders is an RB2 with upside for Fantasy GMs out there. |

Carolina Panthers QB Bryce Young (ankle) is out of practice Wednesday, Sept. 20.
Footballguys view: Let's see what Young can do as the week of practice rolls on. Andy Dalton was on the field for a quarterback sneak, but Young seemed fine in Week 2. If Dalton has to play on the road against the Seahawks in Week 3, Fantasy GMs will be fading all Panthers players. |
Carolina Panthers QB Bryce Young isn't being used on quarterback sneaks because he's too small and doesn't have experience with it, according to sources. QB Andy Dalton entered the game in Week 2 for those plays.
Footballguys view: Everyone wants the "tush push" to work on sneaks like it does - almost to perfection - with QB Jalen Hurts and the Eagles. Young just isn't that guy at this time, so Dalton could be coming onto the field to do that until the rookie gets more experience in running that play. |
Carolina Panthers CB Mac McCain (undisclosed) was waived from the Reserve/Injured list Tuesday, Sept. 19.

Updating previous reports, Carolina Panthers LB Shaq Thompson (leg) was diagnosed with a fractured fibula and underwent season-ending surgery on Tuesday, Sept. 19.
Link to storyShaq Thompson player page
Carolina Panthers QB Bryce Young is averaging just 4.2 yards per attempts through his first two career games, and that's the third-lowest mark through a player's first two career games in NFL history with a minimum of 50 attempts. The other two players are Kyle Boller (3.8) and Billy Joe Tolliver (4.0).
Link to storyUpdating a previous report, Carolina Panthers LB Shaq Thompson (ankle) is expected to miss an extended period after the ankle injury he suffered in Week 2 against the New Orleans Saints, and source say it is likely he'll be out for the season. He'll have tests to determine the severity on Tuesday, Sept. 19. Head coach Frank Reich said the injury is 'significant'. LB Kamu Grugier-Hill stepped up in Thompson's absence.
