Panthers | Tetairoa McMillan adds muscle Wed Jun 10, 02:43 PM
Carolina Panthers WR Tetairoa McMillan said he has added 17 pounds of muscle this offseason.
Footballguys view: McMillan wasn't a small guy coming into the league, using his size and strength to overpower receivers on contested balls. His speed has always left a bit to be desired, and size could impact that even more. We'll be watching closely throughout camp and the preseason to see if this extra bulk impacts his movement. Either way, McMillan proved capable of drawing an elite target share last year. He caught contested balls, made plays after the catch, and scored touchdowns, proving his skill set would transfer from college to the pros.
Carolina Panthers OT Ikem Ekwonu (knee) is expected to be back from his rehab at some point during the 2026 NFL season, according to HC Dave Canales on Tuesday, June 9. Ekwonu ruptured his patellar tendon in the Wild Card Playoff round against the Los Angeles Rams.
Link to storyCarolina Panthers RB Jonathon Brooks needs to stay healthy, but could potentially become the lead back in Carolina over Chuba Hubbard, in the opinion of Cameron Wolfe of ESPN.com on Monday, June 8.
Footballguys view: Wolfe identified Brooks as the team's wild-card player. As USA Today's Anthony Rizzuti reminded readers, two ACL tears, both to the same knee, have limited Brooks to only three NFL games since he was selected in the second round of the 2024 draft. But Brooks, over the past few weeks, was able to fully participate in organized team activities for the first time in his career. How Brooks will fit into that backfield with Hubbard and Trevor Etienne will be one of the things to watch as the Panthers head into training camp next month.

Link to storyCarolina Panthers assistant coaches Mike Bercovici and Peter Hansen were given new job titles. Bercovici is now the offensive passing game coordinator, while Hansen is now the assistant defensive coordinator and linebackers coach, according to a source on Monday, May 25.
Link to storyCarolina Panthers WRs Xavier Legette, John Metchie and Chris Brazzell II may compete for the No. 3 receiver job during the offseason workouts and training camp, in the opinion of PanthersWire's Anthony Rizzuti.
Footballguys view: The Panthers pass offense isn't at the level where it can support three fantasy relevant wide receivers, but if Legette starts to show first round pick promise or Brazzell is ready for prime time as a third round rookie, it will help Bryce Young and really the whole offense take a step forward. Legette has the size and speed to be a run after catch threat, but hasn't shown the ability to win downfield. Brazzell is a long, fast, flexible receiver in the mold of George Pickens, who could make a splash right away given the quality of Young's deep ball.
Carolina Panthers RB Montrell Johnson (undisclosed) was waived from the Reserve/Injured list Wednesday, May 20, after the two sides reached an injury settlement.

Link to storyCarolina Panthers DE Tershawn Wharton will reportedly be out 'a while' after undergoing a neck procedure and is expected to begin training camp on the physically unable to perform list, according to Mike Kaye of the Charlotte Observer on Friday, May 15.
Footballguys view: This shouldn't be a big issue for the defense even though the team gave Wharton a three-year, $45 million contract last year because they drafted a top defensive tackle prospect - Lee Hunter from Texas Tech - in the second round. It's possible, if not likely, that the Panthers factored this injury into their draft plans.

Link to storyUndrafted free-agent DL Tywone Malone (Ohio State) is planned to be brought in by the Carolina Panthers next week, according to a source on Friday, May 15.
Link to storyCarolina Panthers DL Lee Hunter signed his rookie contract with the team on Friday, May 15. It is for four years, though financial terms were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Hunter will be a stout presence against the run and he can get after the quarterback, just like his new running mate Derrick Brown. They should make each other more effective and give opposing offenses trouble once Hunter is up to speed.
Carolina Panthers OT Rasheed Walker and OT Monroe Freeling will compete for the starting left tackle job while OT Ikem Ekwonu (knee) is out of the lineup, according to general manager Dan Morgan.
Link to storyCarolina Panthers QB Bryce Young had his fifth-year extension picked up, but the Panthers are reportedly talking through an extension and GM Dan Morgan will be in touch with Young's agent, according to an interview on NFL Network on Tuesday, May 12.
Footballguys view: The Panthers have Young under contract for two more years. ESPN's Dan Graziano noted on Tuesday that the team "doesn't seem in a huge hurry" to work out an extension with the former first overall pick. The hesitancy on Carolina's part stems from the fact that the QB market got absolutely nuked with young quarterbacks signing record-setting deals, and it needs to adjust back. As AtoZSports' Ken Noble suggested, the Panthers are smart by letting the QB market cool back down before paying Young. For our purposes, Young remains a low-end QB2.

Carolina Panthers third-round draft choice WR Chris Brazzell II signed a four-year contract with the Panthers Thursday, May 7. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Brazzell measures in at 6-feet, 4-inches and he can run a 4.3 40-yard dash. That size/speed combination could make him a favorite target for QB Bryce Young. Brazzell can operate 'above the rim' which makes him a great red-zone option too.
Updating previous reports, undrafted free-agent QB Haynes King (Georgia Tech) and WR Kobe Prentice (Baylor) officially signed with the Carolina Panthers Thursday, May 7. Terms of the contracts were not disclosed.
Link to storyCarolina Panthers fourth-round draft choice CB Will Lee III, fifth-round draft choice C Samuel Hecht, fifth-round draft choice S Zakee Wheatley and seventh-round draft choice LB Jackson Kuwatch signed four-year contracts with the Panthers Thursday, May 7. Carolina Panthers QB Bryce Young had his fifth-year option exercised Wednesday, April 29.
Footballguys view: General manager Dan Morgan said on January 13 that the Panthers would pick up Young's option. The paperwork was filed on Wednesday and keeps him on the roster through the 2027 season. Young's coming off a career season, setting new highs in passing yards (3,011), touchdowns (23), and completion percentage (63.6). He also had six of his 12 game-winning drives in the fourth quarter or overtime last year, the most of any quarterback in the league since 2023, when he entered the league. But until he becomes a more consistent producer, Young remains a low-end QB2 in fantasy.

Panthers RB Jonathon Brooks is cleared to participate in the entire offseason program by his surgeon, he told reporters on Tuesday.
Footballguys view: The Panthers selected Brooks, who was coming off a torn ACL suffered during his final season at Texas, in the second round of the 2024 draft. He made his debut in the middle of his rookie season, but tore the same ACL in his third game back. He then missed all of last season while recovering. Chuba Hubbard and Trevor Etienne return from last season, and Carolina signed AJ Dillon as a free agent. How Brooks will fit into that backfield mix will be one of the things to watch as the Panthers' offseason continues to play out.

Link to storyGeorgia Tech QB Haynes King is signing an undrafted free agent deal with the Carolina Panthers, and he will receive $250,000 guaranteed money, a source said Saturday, April 25.
Footballguys view: King is only able to make rudimentary reads with consistency, but he has the size (6'2" 212) and overall athleticism (including a 4.46 40 and 6.89 three cone) to be a strong running threat, or potential wide receiver convert if he can't cut it at quarterback. The big bonus is a sign that the Panthers like Haynes, and he only has to overcome Kenny Pickett to back up Bryce Young. Superflex dynasty league players should take note.
