Panthers | Jalen Coker has a minor ankle issue; expected to play Week 2 Mon Sep 14, 02:49 PM
Panthers WR Jalen Coker had a boot on his left foot in the locker room on Monday. "Just rolled my ankle a little bit." He says the injury happened in the first quarter of Sunday's loss to the Bears, and this boot is precautionary. He doesn't expect to miss time.
Footballguys view: Coker, who got a three-year, $34 million contract this offseason, was the Panthers' best wide receiver at the tail end of last season and looked like it again Sunday. He had eight catches for a career-high 138 yards and two TDs against the Bears. Per Late-Round Fantasy's JJ Zachariason, over his last eight games, Coker has averaged 16 fantasy points per game. Expect Bryce Young to keep throwing him the ball.

Chuba Hubbard ran the ball 10 times for 49 yards and a score and caught all three of his targets for 38 yards and another score. Jonathon Brooks got four carries for 14 yards and turned two targets into one catch for 48 yards.
Footballguys view: Hubbard dominated snaps early and was a useful, versatile back for the Panthers. Brooks looked good on his long catch and run off of a Bryce Young scramble drill pass, but probably won't push Hubbard to start any time soon. Brooks isn't an essential hold in short bench leagues, while Hubbard is looking like one of the best values at running back after a camp hamstring injury depressed his value.

Jalen Coker caught eight of nine targets for 138 yards and two scores against Chicago. Tetairoa McMillan caught five of his eight targets for 75 yards.
Footballguys view: Coker has now caught the two longest touchdown passes in Bryce Young's career, and three of his four longest passes: an 83-yard touchdown versus the Cowboys in 2024, a 52-yard catch against the Rams in the 2025 wild card game, and Sunday's 51-yard touchdown. If he's not rostered in your league, make a proactive move to land him. This is the second consecutive game Coker has delivered more than 130 receiving yards. Against the Rams in the wild card game, the then second-year Coker pulled in nine receptions on 12 targets for 134 yards and a touchdown.

Panthers QB Bryce Young completed 23 of 37 pass attempts for 361 yards, three touchdowns and one interception in the 59-37 loss to Chicago. He added ten yards and a score on two carries.
Footballguys view: The fourth-year quarterback made a lot of plays outside of structure and showed elusiveness and creativity. Young is the first in what should be a long line of fantasy quarterbacks who put up big numbers against a Bears defense that can afford to be a bit loose because of the quality of their offense. He'll be a high ceiling QB2/Superflex/Streamer against Atlanta next week, and we'll see if Carson Wentz or Kyler Murray (who left with a concussion) faces Chicago next week.

Cameron Wolfe, from NFL Network, reports that the Carolina Panthers will "likely" decide whether to offer QB Bryce Young an extension in the 2027 offseason.
Footballguys view: Young has two years remaining on his contract, but the team wants to see how he performs this season. Just a few days ago, it was reported that Panthers owner David Tepper was asked about what would prompt a new extension and said, "Success is success. And you know it when you see it." Okay, well, apparently the Panthers want to see more. We'll see if Young can push his team to a division title and the postseason in 2026.

Panthers head coach Dave Canales said RB Jonathon Brooks will play in Week 1 "without limitations" and will not be listed on the injury report after dealing with a groin issue earlier in the week.
Footballguys view: Panic ensued when Brooks was seen working off the field with trainers last week, but Dave Canales downplayed the severity. Brooks was limited in practice on Wednesday and Thursday, but full participation on Friday and removal from the injury report is about the best news we could have hoped for. Brooks was a second-round pick in 2024 and has only played 23 career snaps. He tore his ACL in his final year at Texas, and then re-tore it shortly after making his NFL debut. He's expected to split the backfield in Carolina with Chuba Hubbard this season, but Brooks' upside as a big-play rusher and receiver makes him more desirable in fantasy. Managers who can afford to take a wait-and-see approach with Brooks in Week 1 should. But if he looks healthy in his long-awaited return, a Week 2 matchup against the Falcons could be the time to elevate him into starting lineups.

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathon Brooks was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice due to a groin injury. Nonetheless, head coach Dave Canales is very confident Brooks will play against Chicago.
Footballguys view: Brooks is limited on Wednesday, but we'll see if he can be a full participant by Friday at the latest. He's a talented but oft-injured back who is going to work in a RBBC with Chuba Hubbard and the Panthers this season. Brooks is an RB3/deep flex play while Hubbard is a more of an low-end RB2/flex play in PPR leagues.

Panthers RB Jonathon Brooks (general soreness) is still off to the side with a trainer in practice.
Footballguys view: Head coach Dave Canales spoke with reporters following Monday's practice. When asked about the outlook for Brooks, Canales kept playing his cards close to his chest. "I hope so," he replied. Brooks was also held to the side during last week's sessions with what Canales has described as "general soreness." Canales did, however, say that he was "very optimistic" about the third-year rusher's chances of suiting up at Bank of America Stadium on Sunday. We'll continue to follow up and remind you that Chuba Hubbard is currently healthy and standing by.

Head coach Dave Canales said this week that the Panthers want to take advantage of Tetairoa McMillan's size over the middle. "We'll use [McMillan] in a versatile way, be able to take advantage of how comfortable he is in the slot, and then also still be able to take advantage of the one-on-one opportunities when they come to us," Canales said of the Panthers' No. 8 pick in 2025 out of Arizona.
Footballguys view: McMillan will be a big part of what the Panthers do with their passing game. We like him as a WR2 with upside on a weekly basis. Having a more varied way of using McMillan could help him outproduce his average draft position (WR23).

Carolina Panthers HC Dave Canales said he is "very optimistic" RB Jonathon Brooks will play in Week 1 against the Bears.
Footballguys view: Brooks worked to the side at Wednesday's practice. Meanwhile, Chuba Hubbard has returned to practice after missing practice for a couple of weeks with a hamstring injury. The plan is for Hubbard and Brooks to split carries this season. That means the fantasy plan should be Hubbard as an RB2/flex and Brooks as a deep flex play to begin the regular season.

Carolina Panthers RB Trevor Etienne (ankle) suffered an ankle injury during the preseason game against the Houston Texans Friday, Aug. 28, according to head coach Dave Canales.
Footballguys view: We'll see how long this ankle injury will bother Etienne, a player who has gotten some starter's snaps earlier this month in training camp. He's third on the depth chart behind Jonathon Brooks and Chuba Hubbard, but Eteinne has the skill set to be a three-down back.
Carolina Panthers TE Caden Prieskorn was waived Saturday, Aug. 29, according to a source.

Link to storyCarolina Panthers TE Darren Waller will likely be held out of the team's preseason game against the Houston Texans on Friday, Aug. 28. He is expected to take part in some team drills during the joint practice session, however.
Footballguys view: Waller officially signed with the Panthers last Monday. The 33-year-old would not end up taking part in the joint practice with the Jacksonville Jaguars on Wednesday nor the ensuing preseason contest on Friday. As for this week, when the Houston Texans come to town, Canales says he expects almost the same for the former Pro Bowl pass catcher. Canales also stated that Waller is not expected to suit up for the preseason finale at Bank of America Stadium on Friday.

Carolina Panthers WR Xavier Legette (ankle, foot) won't take part in joint practices with the Houston Texans on Wednesday, Aug. 26, and won't play in the team's final preseason game. Legette will continue wearing a walking boot through Thursday, Aug. 27, per head coach Dave Canales.
Footballguys view: That boot made an appearance this past Friday, as Legette was sidelined for the Panthers' preseason tilt against the Jacksonville Jaguars at EverBank Stadium. Legette is coming off a disappointing 2025, where he experienced dips across the board from his rookie campaign. The 2024 first-rounder amassed 35 receptions for 363 yards and three touchdowns. Carolina will begin their regular season against the Chicago Bears on Sunday, Sept. 13.
Carolina Panthers RB Chuba Hubbard (hamstring) should be ready for the start of the regular season, according to head coach Dave Canales.
Footballguys view: All offseason long, the expectation has been that Carolina will have Jonathon Brooks and Hubbard in a timeshare, at least to start the season. Canales confirmed that will indeed be the case, with one back starting a series and the other coming in on third downs. While we're set for a 50-50 split to start the season, we've already seen Canales lean more toward one back if someone is playing better, as we saw with Hubbard and Rico Dowdle last season. So, don't be surprised if one or the other seizes more control of the backfield as the season progresses.

Carolina Panthers QB Haynes King (hamstring) will not practice or play during the upcoming week, according to head coach Dave Canales.
Link to storyCarolina Panthers WR Xavier Legette (ankle, foot) did not play in the preseason game versus the Jacksonville Jaguars Friday, Aug. 21, because of a twisted ankle and foot soreness, according to head coach Dave Canales.
Footballguys view: In early August, Legette suffered what reporters called a 'stinger,' and now he's dealing with two more problems (ankle/foot). Legette had his ankle rolled up on in practice Wednesday, Aug. 19, and it is uncertain how much time he will miss.

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathon Brooks rushed three times for five yards and caught a nine-yard pass during the preseason game against the Buffalo Bills Saturday, Aug. 15.
Footballguys view: The most important outcome here is that Brooks didn't get hurt in his first live game action. Chuba Hubbard is already week-to-week with a hamstring injury, so Brooks could start Week 1 against the mediocre Bears runs defense. Brooks didn't pop any big gains or look like an impressive talent, but the line did him no favors. Nothing from this game should push him down from the new higher ADP he has after Hubbard got hurt in practice this week, but nothing from this game should push him higher either.

Carolina Panthers WR Jalen Coker has been open regularly during training camp and has been catching passes consistently during practices, according to ESPN.com's Mike Kaye.
Footballguys view: Fantasy GMs know that Coker can ball. His current ADP (WR55, 14.02) seems low for what his potential and upside could be in the Panthers offense. We love taking him late in drafts and stashing for at least some flex-worthy matchups.

Carolina Panthers RB Chuba Hubbard (hamstring) is out of practice Thursday, Aug. 13, due to a hamstring injury.
Footballguys view: Panthers HC Dave Canales said he's confident Hubbard will be ready for Week 1. He's considered week-to-week with the hamstring injury. Jonathon Brooks has been dazzling in Panthers camp, and he's set to play in the preseason. The team will use both backs in a committee this year.

Free-agent Darren Waller (Dolphins) has reportedly signed a one-year deal with the Carolina Panthers, according to a source on Wednesday, Aug. 12.
Footballguys view: Waller was retired but played for the Dolphins in nine games last year, scoring six touchdowns while catching 24 passes for 283 yards. The Panthers should use him as a red-zone target, and Waller should rotate snaps with guys like Tommy Tremble, Mitchell Evans, and Ja'Tavion Sanders. The situation and Waller's ability near pay dirt make him a consideration as a low-end TE2 with upside.

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathon Brooks is scheduled to play in the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 15, according to head coach Dave Canales.
Footballguys view: Both Brooks and Chubba Hubbard are set to play in the team's second preseason game. Brooks missed all of last year due to a knee injury, but he's got the natural talent to be a productive runner in the pros. Current ADP has both backs being drafted near each other. Brooks is going off the board at RB36 (9.10) while Hubbard is RB35 (9.02) in 12-team PPR leagues.
