Cowboys | Two players working out for Dallas roster Mon Jun 22, 08:54 PM
Free-agent RB Deon Jackson (Lions) and LB Micah Baskerville (Bears) have had workouts with the Dallas Cowboys, according to a source on Monday, June 22.

Dallas Cowboys WR Ryan Flournoy is 'one of those guys - because he does everything right' that Dak Prescott trusts implicitly, according to head coach Brian Schottenheimer.
Footballguys view: As ESPN.com's Todd Archer noted, Flournoy is coming off a 40-catch, 475-yard, four-touchdown season a year ago, when he had two 100-yard games. If something happens to CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens, the Cowboys know what they have in Flournoy. He is strong at attacking the ball. This offseason, he has worked in the slot more. At the very least, he'll be in the mix as their WR3.
Dallas Cowboys CB Shavon Revel Jr. (knee) is healthy heading into the offseason and training camp after entering his rookie season in 2025 rehabbing a torn anterior cruciate ligament at East Carolina in his senior season. He heads into the 2026 campaign looking to work hard, and he wants to be among the best in the NFL. 'I am going to be, someday, the best cornerback in the league,' Revel said. 'That's just how I look at it, and I have the confidence to say it. At the end of the day, I got to work.'
Link to storyDallas Cowboys WR George Pickens is unlikely to agree to terms on a contract extension during the 2026 season but could be offered one next offseason if he posts similar numbers to his 2025 campaign, in the opinion of NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The Cowboys also appear unlikely to trade Pickens.
Footballguys view: Any movement on this contract will be the first movement we've heard of. Pickens has already signed his franchise tender, and he says he will not hold out of training camp. We like Pickens as a low-end WR1 with upside.
Dallas Cowboys WR Romello Brinson was waived Thursday, June 18.
Link to storyFree agent DE Charles Snowden (Raiders) agreed to terms with the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday, June 18. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Free agent WR Denzel Mims (Jets) signed with the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday, June 18. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Mims played with the Dallas Renegades in the UFL this season, and he now gets another chance to play in the NFL. He's got a size/speed combination, but the former second-round pick (Jets, 2020) has never played up to his potential.

Dallas Cowboys C Matt Hennessy (neck) was placed on season-ending IR after neck surgery.
Link to storyDallas Cowboys WR George Pickens said he is ready to play on the franchise tag tender this upcoming season and plans to be a full participant during training camp.
Footballguys view: As SI.com noted, the expectation was always that Pickens wouldn't hold out after he signed his franchise tag, but knowing the mercurial wideout's history, assuming anything with him is a risky proposition. But Pickens alleviated any concerns on Wednesday. "Like I said, the group of guys that's with the Cowboys kind of prevents you [from holding out]," Pickens said. "I talk to Dak [Prescott] . . . He's definitely gonna make you not want to hold out." Pickens led the team in targets (137), catches (93), yards (1,429), and touchdowns (eight) in 2025, his first season in Dallas.
Free agent RB Zamir White (Raiders) worked out for the Dallas Cowboys in recent days, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.
Link to storyDallas Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer told the media on Tuesday, June 16, that QB Dak Prescott will be limited in team drills. He said it's nothing to be concerned about.
Footballguys view: We trust Schottenheimer here. Even if Prescott is limited at times in camp, he is a proven veteran, so we won't be inclined to reduce the Dallas passing game projections. Matthew Stafford has nursed a back issue in recent training camps, but otherwise was unaffected during the season, and Prescott deserves the same kind of faith we put in Stafford despite his age and physical condition.

Free agent OL Chris Glaser (Bears) signed with the Dallas Cowboys on Tuesday, June 16. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Link to storyDallas Cowboys RB Jaydon Blue was praised for his work ethic during OTAs by head coach Brian Schottenheimer, and Schottenheimer believes Blue has become a different player.
Footballguys view: This has been a steady drumbeat - along with Ryan Flournoy's progress while George Pickens missed voluntary practices - that we shouldn't ignore. Blue should get some manufactured touches in space and a handful of carries a game to get his speed into play. If Javonte Williams were to miss time, fellow 2025 draft pick Phil Mafah - who is also having a good offseason - would probably be the early down back, so Blue's upside in redraft leagues could be limited.
Dallas Cowboys WR George Pickens reported for the start of mandatory minicamp Monday, June 15.
Footballguys view: The most likely outcome continues to be Pickens playing this year on the franchise tag and then heading to free agency. Dallas might be open to trading him, but not many teams would want to take on a $27.3 million cap hit for a player with Pickens reputation. Ryan Flournoy continues to impress and riff with Dak Prescott while Pickens was away during voluntary minicamp, so the Cowboys have little incentive to sign Pickens to a long term deal unless it was very team-friendly.
Dallas Cowboys QBs Joe Milton and Sam Howell are getting equal reps in the competition for the backup job behind Dak Prescott.
Footballguys view: Head coach Brian Schottenheimer said today that Howell and Milton are in an open competition to be the No. 2 quarterback in Dallas. "It's going to be a fun competition," Schottenheimer said. The Cowboys acquired Milton from the Patriots in a trade last year. He played in four games behind Prescott, completing 15 of 24 passes for 183 yards, with a touchdown and two interceptions. Howell signed with the Cowboys in March after spending last season as a backup for the Eagles. He has started 18 games in his career, all for the Commanders. We'll monitor this one all summer.

Dallas Cowboys C Matt Hennessy underwent neck surgery and will start training camp on the PUP list, according to head coach Brian Schottenheimer.
Link to storyDallas Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb (personal reasons) is not practicing at the team's OTA session on Tuesday, June 9.
Footballguys view: Lamb's absence shouldn't be of any concern. As SI.com suggests, he'll likely be back at practice in no time, barring injury. We'll watch for more on that, but there's nothing here that changes Lamb's 2026 expectations or draft stock.

Dallas Cowboys DE Donovan Ezeiruaku (hip) is expected to be available for the start of training camp, according to head coach Brian Schottenheimer.
Link to storyDallas Cowboys DE Malachi Lawrence signed his rookie deal on Friday, June 5, for four years, with a fully guaranteed $20.22 million.
Link to storyDallas Cowboys CB DaRon Bland (foot) is expected to be ready for training camp.
Link to storyDallas Cowboys WR George Pickens was not present for the voluntary workout Thursday, June 4, but is expected to take part in the mandatory minicamp next week, according to NFL Network's Jane Slater.
Footballguys view: The workouts are voluntary, so we're not too concerned. When the work becomes mandatory next week, Pickens should be in attendance. Pickens already signed his franchise tag earlier this year, so he's fully guaranteed $27.3 MM for the 2026 season. We'll see if a long-term contract can be worked out before the start of the regular season.
Free-agent WR Jaden Smith (Buccaneers) signed with the Dallas Cowboys Wednesday, June 3. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Link to storyDallas Cowboys RB Jaydon Blue will compete with RB Malik Davis and RB Phil Mafah for the No. 2 running back job.
Link to storyDallas Cowboys WR Parris Campbell was placed on the Reserve/Retired list Wednesday, May 27.

Dallas Cowboys OT Tyler Guyton (ankle), who suffered a bone fracture and high-ankle sprain last season, costing him seven games, is expected to be ready to go for Week 1. He is likely to be slotted in as the starting left tackle.
Footballguys view: If he sticks at left tackle, that will move Tyler Smith back to his preferred position of left guard. The Cowboys offensive line is young and full of people who can move defenders. If they can develop and have better injury luck than last year, the team could contend to win their division and be a tough out in the playoffs.
Dallas Cowboys OG Tyler Smith is expected to start on the left side of the offensive line in 2026, but it's uncertain if it will be at guard or tackle. In the final three games of 2025, he moved to left tackle, although his preferred spot is guard. 'We had great conversations about it,' Smith said. 'I have an understanding of what it is. That's the most I can ask for is to just have that understanding early on. Obviously, I've got the utmost faith that we're going to go out there and we're going to do what we're going to do.'
Link to storyDallas Cowboys WR George Pickens has been doing off-site workouts with QB Dak Prescott this offseason but has not been a regular at the club's optional workouts. He is seeking a contract extension but is not expected to engage in a lengthy holdout, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Jeremy Fowler.
Footballguys view: Pickens signed his franchise tender about a month ago, and that fully guarantees him $27.3 million for the 2026 season. He obviously wants a long-term deal, and it seems like Pickens is willing to work with the Cowboys. However, signing the franchise tender takes away a lot of leverage with the team. Pickens is not a regular at voluntary workouts, but when mandatory minicamp happens in June, we expect him to be in full attendance.
Dallas Cowboys WR Ryan Flournoy seems to be the leading candidate for the No. 3 receiver job entering training camp, in the opinion of DallasCowboys.com's Kurt Daniels.
Footballguys view: The no.3 receiver in an elite passing attack like the Cowboys will have fantasy value. Flournoy is competing for the no.3 spot behind superstars CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens. He'll have to beat out guys like KaVontae Turpin, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, and Tyler Johnson for that job. Flournoy should be able to build off his 2025 season, where he had a few big games for the Cowboys. Last year, he had 40 catches on 56 targets for 475 yards and four touchdowns. Flournoy is a deep flex for Fantasy GMs with upside if injuries strike at the position.
Dallas Cowboys LB DeMarvion Overshown (knee) said he is excited to enter the 2026 season fully healthy. 'So the fact that I get to go through the full offseason as a healthy man and coming into training camp healthy, I feel like people ain't seen my best yet,' Overshown said. 'So I know it's going to be one of my best years.'
Link to storyDeMarvion Overshown player page
Dallas Cowboys LB DeMarvion Overshown (knee) said that he is completely healthy and is no longer wearing a knee brace. He missed the bulk of the 2025 season because of a torn anterior cruciate ligament, a torn medial collateral ligament and a torn posterior cruciate ligament in his knee.
Footballguys view: The Cowboys could also get much bigger contributions from 2025 third round pick Shavon Revel, a long, fast corner who was also on the mend from previous injuries last year. This defense is going to get faster and more aggressive, and they have a rising star Christian Parker as their new defensive coordinator. The Dallas D/ST could be a factor in fantasy leagues this year.

Dallas Cowboys LB Sam Williams will be used as an outside linebacker in the team's new 3-4 defensive scheme. He had previously played the position at the University of Mississippi.
Link to storyDallas Cowboys RB Malik Davis is believed to be the favorite to land the team's RB2 role, according to Fort Worth Star-Telegram's Nick Harris.
Footballguys view: This is an important backup running back battle to watch. The Cowboys were among the league leaders in running back scores, with 16, and their offensive line had some bad injury luck. Their defense should also be improved, so this might be a plug and play situation if Javonte Williams misses time. 2025 fifth round pick Jaydon Blue and seventh round pick Phil Mafah are also contenders to be the top backup to Williams.
Monday was the first team workout for the Cowboys since Pickens signed the one-year, $27.3 million deal, and Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that Pickens was not present.
Footballguys view: Pickens signed his franchise tag on April 29, and executive vice president Stephen Jones said soon after that the team expected Pickens to show up for voluntary work. Nothing is mandatory until June 16, so he can stay away until then without being fined. The Cowboys announced they will not negotiate a long-term deal with Pickens this offseason, and Jones has repeatedly said the team has "zero interest" in trading Pickens. The Cowboys traded for Pickens a year ago, and he led the team in targets (137), catches (93), yards (1,429), and touchdowns (eight) in 2025.
Undrafted free-agent OL DJ Wingfield (Southern California) has reportedly signed with the Dallas Cowboys, according to a source on Monday, May 11.
Link to storyFree-agent CB Adoree' Jackson (Eagles) met with the Dallas Cowboys Tuesday, May 5, according to sources.

UDFA OL DJ Winfield signed with the Dallas Cowboys on Tuesday, May 5. No terms of the deal were disclosed. In a corresponding move, the team cut DL Sidney Fugar.
Link to storyDallas Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones stated on Tuesday, May 5, that the team remains steadfast that they will not trade WR George Pickens.
Footballguys view: Pickens has signed his franchise tag, but hasn't landed a long-term deal with the team. There haven't been any indications that the two sides are making progress toward any longer arrangement. Meanwhile, the wideout is not taking part in voluntary workouts with teammates, but the Cowboys have a mandatory minicamp in June, and Pickens would be subject to fines if he skipped that camp. Jones said he expects Pickens to be there, while referencing quarterback Dak Prescott doing the same thing after being tagged in 2020. So we have expectations. Now we'll wait to see if Pickens meets them.
Dallas Cowboys TE Michael Trigg and TE DJ Rogers made positive impressions at rookie minicamp, according to head coach Brian Schottenheimer. 'I'm really excited about those two young men adding into a group that I feel is maybe one of the more stable positions on our roster,' Schottenheimer said.
Footballguys view: According to Footballguy Sigmund Bloom, Trigg has the pass-catching skills and athletic ability to matter in fantasy football, but off-field concerns made him fall out of the draft. He landed in the right organization to have room to straighten out. If he makes the team -- or another team poaches him off Dallas' practice squad -- put a pin in Trigg's name, especially in tight end premium leagues. Rogers, meanwhile, can do just enough in both the receiving and blocking game to maintain a role in the league over the long term, but is off of fantasy radars for now.
Presbyterian RB Zach Switzer was grateful for a chance to take part in a rookie minicamp this week. The practices are not padded, and mostly about learning the playbook and going through individual drills. 'I'm super grateful, super honored, and super blessed to have the opportunity to be able to do something like this and achieve one of my dreams,' he said. 'And until [making a team], I'm just going to keep telling them I'm grateful for the opportunity.'
Link to storyGeorge Pickens didn't show up for voluntary workouts this past week. Pickens likely won't show up to organized team activities next month, either. Signing his franchise tag, as he did Wednesday, does mean that Pickens will have to show up for mandatory minicamp from June 16-18 or face fines that the team can't waive. Players who miss all three days of minicamp could be fined a maximum total of $93,085.
Footballguys view: According to Dallas Morning News staffer Joseph Hoyt, that's the next tipping point when it comes to the Cowboys and Pickens. The Cowboys have been adamant this offseason that they won't trade Pickens after he had a breakout season last year, finishing with career highs in catches (93), yards (1,429), and touchdowns (nine). Signing the franchise tag, Pickens is locked into a one-year, $27.3 million deal. He and the Cowboys have until July 15 to negotiate a long-term deal, but the Cowboys have already indicated that they don't plan to negotiate a deal beyond this year. We'll continue to monitor.
Updating a previous report, Dallas Cowboys first-round draft choice S Caleb Downs signed a four-year contract with the Cowboys Friday, May 1, worth $28.9 million.
Link to storyUpdating previous reports, undrafted free-agent WR Camden Brown (Georgia Southern), WR Jordan Hudson (SMU), RB Dominic Richardson (Tulsa), TE DJ Rogers (TCU) and TE Michael Trigg (Baylor) officially signed with the Dallas Cowboys Friday, May 1. Terms of the contracts were not disclosed.
Link to storyThe Dallas Cowboys have signed S Caleb Downs, LB Jaishawn Barham, OT Drew Shelton, CB Devin Moore, DE LT Overton, and WR Anthony Smith to their rookie deals on Friday, May 1.
Link to storyDallas Cowboys OT Drew Shelton's potential had members of the coaching staff pushing to select Shelton on Day 2 of the 2026 NFL Draft, a team source told Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com. 'Only so few humans can play tackle in the NFL, and he's one of them,' the source said.
Link to storyGeorge Pickens has signed the franchise tag, a source told ESPN.com's Todd Archer.
Footballguys view: While there was a delay, we were told this would happen last week, it's done now. Pickens will make a guaranteed $27.3 million this season, and he will report to the mandatory minicamp in June and training camp or be subject to fines. It also opens up the possibility of Pickens being traded, although the Cowboys say that won't happen. Assuming he isn't traded, Pickens' Footballguys projection, WR13, is plenty reasonable considering his WR5 finish last season.
Free-agent WR Tyler Johnson (Jets) and LB Curtis Robinson (49ers) signed with the Dallas Cowboys Monday, April 27. Terms of the contracts were not disclosed.
Link to storyTyler Johnson player page
Free-agent WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling (Steelers) agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the Dallas Cowboys Monday, April 27, according to a source. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: As CBSSports.com noted, Valdes-Scantling appeared in 10 regular-season games with the 49ers and Steelers last season, finishing with a combined 14 catches for 120 yards and one touchdown. The 31-year-old is joining his fifth team in the last two years and will attempt to win a job with Dallas this summer. He'll compete with Ryan Flournoy, KaVontae Turpin, Jonathan Mingo, and others behind CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens.
Marquez Valdes-Scantling player page
Dallas Cowboys franchise free-agent WR George Pickens has not signed his tender offer at this point.
Footballguys view: ESPN.com's Todd Archer added in the replies to his initial post that the news isn't that Pickens is refusing to sign, just that he hasn't yet. Once he does, Pickens will make a guaranteed $27.3 million this season, and he will report to the mandatory minicamp in June and training camp or be subject to fines. It also opens up the possibility of Pickens being traded, although the Cowboys say that won't happen. For now, as The Sporting News suggests, this is a situation where the timeline is wonky, but the outcome may still be fine. Stay tuned for more.
Baylor TE Michael Trigg is signing as an undrafted free agent with the Dallas Cowboys, a source said Saturday, April 25.
Footballguys view: Trigg has all of the requisite passcatching and athletic talent to matter in fantasy football if he can ever earn a shot to play on Sundays. His lack of maturity and numerous off-field incidents made him fall out of the draft, but the Cowboys are a great organization for a malcontent to find his game - just ask George Pickens. Trigg's high ceiling is worth selecting in the late rounds of rookie drafts, and will be an easy drop that opens up a spot to take a shot on another young talent if he doesn't make the practice squad.
