Broncos | Jonah Coleman making case for playing time Sun Jun 21, 01:46 PM
Denver Broncos RB Jonah Coleman has shown consistency in the passing game and pass protection, according to Jeff Legwold of ESPN.com, and Legwold believes Coleman 'belongs in the rotation' of running backs.
Footballguys view: Coleman is the no.3 back on the Broncos depth chart for now. JK Dobbins is the starter, but Denver is ready this year if/when he gets hurt. If Dobbins misses time due to injury again, the Broncos can turn to Coleman as a co-starter in the backfield with RJ Harvey. While Harvey can improve from his rookie season as a runner, he's mainly a receiving weapon with a nose for the end zone. This makes Coleman a must-stash in deep-bench leagues, or Fantasy GMs should at least keep him on the waiver wire speed dial.
Denver Broncos RB RJ Harvey appears to have fully recovered from the torn labrum in his shoulder, according to head coach Sean Payton.
Footballguys view: Harvey is a key cog for the Broncos' offense. He's the "1A" for the Broncos alongside JK Dobbins in the backfield. While Dobbins gets work on the ground, Harvey is proven as a red-zone threat (12 touchdowns as a rookie in 2025) and receiving back. From a fantasy perspective, Harvey is an RB3/flex option with his current role.
Undrafted free-agent QB Sawyer Robertson (Baylor) is not expected to sign with the Denver Broncos after participating in their mandatory minicamp on a tryout basis.
Link to storyFree agent OT Reid Holskey (Giants) signed with the Denver Broncos on Thursday, June 18. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Link to storyDenver Broncos WR Jaylen Waddle has been involved in the passing game at all levels of the field during minicamp, according to Jeff Legwold of ESPN.com.
Footballguys view: Waddle has been dazzling at Broncos camp this offseason. He can be the centerpiece of a passing game that led the NFL in passing attempts last season. The team needed more playmakers, and Waddle gives them their most explosive option. For Fantasy GMs, Waddle is a mid-range WR2 with the upside to work his way towards WR1 numbers. Catching passes from Bo Nix in a Sean Payton offense is a huge upgrade for Waddle.

Denver Broncos WR Michael Woods II (undisclosed) was moved to the Reserve/Injured Wednesday, June 17, after clearing waivers.
Link to storyDenver Broncos QB Bo Nix (ankle) participated in seven-on-seven drills during practice Wednesday, June 17.
Footballguys view: Nix, who told reporters on Tuesday that he could play right now if he wanted, has been limited up to this point. He reiterated on Wednesday that he could've been a full participant in minicamp practices if the medical and coaching staff had let him. In his second NFL season, Nix threw for 3,931 yards, 25 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions, adding 356 rushing yards and five scores on the ground. As previously noted, Nix is going as QB15 right now. That's a good price for a player who's finished in the top 10 at his position his first two seasons.
Undrafted free-agent QB Sawyer Robertson (Baylor) is participating in the Denver Broncos mandatory minicamp this week on a tryout basis.
Link to storyDenver Broncos QB Bo Nix (ankle) said that bone spurs led to second ankle surgery, but 'I feel great,' according to a report from the Denver Post on Tuesday, June 16. Nix has participated in walkthrough drills and stated that he could play right now if he wanted.
Footballguys view: Losing Nix to injury in the divisional playoffs was a brutal blow for the Broncos. It was even more painful because Nix finished the season strong. Though he was 15th in QBR for the season (58.3), he registered a 66.3 from Week 13 on (the equivalent of ranking seventh). This year, with Jaylen Waddle joining Courtland Sutton at wideout and QBs coach Davis Webb taking over the playcalling, there's reason to believe Nix can continue his development. Remember, he's finished as QB8 and QB9 in fantasy the last two seasons. Nix is being drafted as QB15 this year.
Denver Broncos WR Michael Woods II and CB Paul Manning were waived by the Broncos, according to a source on Tuesday, June 16. Woods II was waived with a waived/injured designation and Manning was waived with an injury settlement.
Link to storyDenver Broncos LB Jonathon Cooper will not be at mandatory minicamp this week due to legal issues.

Free-agent CB Sean Fresch Jr. (UFL) has reportedly signed with the Denver Broncos, according to a source on Monday, June 15.
Link to storyDenver Broncos RB RJ Harvey (shoulder) underwent surgery this offseason to repair a torn labrum he suffered during the playoffs, according to sources. He was able to do some things during offseason workouts.
Footballguys view: While Harvey was able to mix into some drills, he did not do much team work as he works his way back, per Luca Evans of The Denver Post. As a rookie, the 2025 second-round pick totaled 193 touches for 896 yards from scrimmage and 12 touchdowns. We'll continue to monitor, but this news doesn't have a significant impact on his outlook for now. Harvey will play behind J.K. Dobbins and will compete with rookie Jonah Coleman for the backup job.
Denver Broncos WR Michael Woods II (undisclosed) did not participate in the voluntary workout Thursday, June 11.
Link to storyFree-agent WR Hakeem Butler (UFL) signed an undisclosed deal with the Denver Broncos Monday, June 15. Butler was the offensive player of the year with the St. Louis Battlehawks in the UFL.
Footballguys view: Butler was chosen by the Cardinals as the first pick of the third day of the 2019 draft. He's 30 now, so his peak physical years are behind him, but Butler's huge catch radius and ball skills could still be useful enough to earn a spot on the practice squad for the Broncos.

We should buy into Denver Broncos TE Evan Engram's performance over the last two weeks of OTAs, according to Troy Renck of the Denver Post.
Footballguys view: Engram has been a star over the last two days of open practice to the media, and it has many believing he's in for a bounce-back season. There's no question Engram disappointed last year, but new play-calling OC Davis Webb should have a plan for him to be more productive this year. Now, Bo Nix has yet to fully participate in practice (and might not be fully participating until training camp) as he recovers from offseason ankle surgeries. We like this drumbeat, but we will feel more excited when Nix is out there with Engram. He's a fantasy TE2 with TE1 upside.
Denver Broncos LB Jonathon Cooper was arrested again Thursday, June 11, by Parker Police on four new charges, including misdemeanor harassment and violation of a protective order.

Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton told the media on Thursday, June 11, that QB Bo Nix did some walkthrough work and will be out there for some work next week for minicamp.
Footballguys view: Nix is coming off an ankle injury in the Divisional Round against Buffalo that needed two surgeries to correct. He's not doing much this week, but the team plans for him to do a bit more at mandatory minicamp next week. We imagine Nix will be a full participant when training camp opens for the Broncos in late July.
Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton signed a five-year extension with the team on Thursday, June 11.
Footballguys view: Payton is now tied with GM George Paton through the 2030 season. They've done a great job working together to build the Broncos into a Super Bowl contender. With QB Bo Nix, Payton has been in the playoffs as a Wild Card team (2024) and the AFC's no.1 seed (2025). They should be able to make more deep playoff runs with Payton coaching, Paton scouting, and Nix playing quarterback.
Denver Broncos TE Caleb Lohner (lower body) is expected to miss the next two weeks of minicamp and organized team activities (OTAs) due to a routine lower-body cleanup procedure this offseason. He is expected to be ready in full for the start of training camp.
Link to storyDenver Broncos WR Courtland Sutton said he is not worried about sharing targets with WR Jaylen Waddle. 'The targets will come,' Sutton said. 'I always say, the ball is going to find you no matter what, you just need to go out there and do your job.'
Footballguys view: Sutton will be the top red zone target in any scenario, and it is clear that Bo Nix has the best chemistry with Sutton of any of the returning Broncos receivers. Sutton is right that targets will come, especially in key game situations, because he has been so good at doing his job with Denver.

Denver Broncos OT Alex Palczewski started 10 games at left guard in 2025 after OG Ben Powers (biceps) went on the reserve/injured list. However, Powers and the rest of the starting offensive linemen are back from last season, so Palczewski isn't in line now to start in 2026. However, he was regularly inserted for Denver's jumbo lineup when a sixth offensive lineman was used.
Link to storyDenver Broncos WR Jaylen Waddle is fitting in with his new team, and drawing praise from the coaching staff and teammates for his quick starting and stopping, and for his route running. 'I think his ability to make every route look the same is pretty important,' S Talanoa Hufanga said. 'As a defender, when you can make a 10-yard stop look like a go, a 10-yard dig (route) look like a go, a 10-yard out-route -- it's just, everything looks the same. And it puts pressure on your backpedal, as a DB.'
Footballguys view: Waddle could be a focal point of the Broncos pass offense right away if he and Bo Nix are on the same page and the team is creative with their usage of their big offseason acquisition to push for a Super Bowl while Nix is on a rookie contract. Waddle could get off on the right foot in the season opener against Kansas City, which will likely be #6 pick Mansoor Delane's first NFL start.

Denver Broncos QB Bo Nix (ankle) is expected to have an increased role during the team's three-day mandatory minicamp, which begins June 16, according to head coach Sean Payton. Nix did not participate in the team's first full week of organized team activities but had thrown in pre-practice sessions.
Footballguys view: There have been some misconceptions, a dash of mystery, and sometimes straight-up misinformation about Nix's ankle this offseason. The current plan, according to Payton, is to have Nix do more in mandatory minicamp in 10 days or so. Does that mean full participation? While that seems unlikely, we're not too worried about the young franchise quarterback. Once August gets here and the Broncos are in training camp, we expect Nix to be near full strength and fully participating.
Denver Broncos LB Jonah Elliss will not be moved from an edge rusher role to an inside linebacker spot on a regular basis because he is 'doing too well outside,' according to head coach Sean Payton. However, there may be a handful of defensive packages where Elliss will flex inside.
Link to storyDenver Broncos LB Jonathon Cooper was arrested late Thursday, June 4, on suspicion of misdemeanor criminal mischief with a domestic violence enhancer.

Denver Broncos WR Michael Woods II (undisclosed) and TE Caleb Lohner (undisclosed) did not participate in the voluntary workout Thursday, June 4.
Link to storyDenver Broncos QB Bo Nix was seen on the sideline at the team's OTAs on Thursday, June 4. Nix is working his way back from a broken ankle suffered in January.
Footballguys view: There are some who think we could see Nix out there at mandatory minicamp in just a couple of weeks. Nix injured his ankle in the Divisional Round win over the Bills, and he had to have a cleanup second surgery after it was initially repaired. So long as Nix is out there in training camp, the Broncos have no worries at the quarterback position. Nix with Jaylen Waddle could be quite fun for Broncos fans...and Fantasy GMs... in 2026.
Free-agent RB Marcus Yarns (Saints) and WR Jalen Moreno-Cropper (Cowboys) will be working out for the Denver Broncos.
Link to storyDenver Broncos CB Patrick Surtain II was given a $5 million raise this year by the team on Tuesday, June 2. He has a chance to make another $5 million next year if he makes All-Pro or Pro Bowl this year.
Link to storyDenver Broncos RB Jonah Coleman could be used as a receiver out of the backfield during his rookie season, in the opinion of BroncosWire's Jon Heath.
Footballguys view: Coleman is a threat to both JK Dobbins and RJ Harvey's roles, and he could end up being as valuable as Harvey even though there is a 50+ pick gap in their ADPs. Coleman could also be the first man up if Dobbins goes down. This is a big camp for Harvey to prove he deserves a bigger opportunity to prove he was worth the second round pick the Broncos spent on him last year.
Denver Broncos fourth-round pick OT Kage Casey signed his rookie four-year deal Wednesday, May 20. Financial terms weren't disclosed.
Link to storyDenver Broncos fourth-round pick RB Jonah Coleman signed his rookie four-year deal Wednesday, May 20. Financial terms weren't disclosed.
Footballguys view: While he starts his career in Denver behind veteran J.K. Dobbins and second-year man RJ Harvey, Coleman is a tough, physical runner with three-down capabilities due to his ability to catch passes and pass protect. He's an interesting prospect with an RB48 ADP that puts him in the same tier with Jacksonville's Chris Rodriguez Jr., the Giants' Tyrone Tracy Jr., Tennessee's Tyjae Spears, and Detroit's Isiah Pacheco.
Undrafted free-agent WR Sean Brown (Charlotte) did not sign with the Denver Broncos after the 2026 NFL Draft because of a failed physical.
Link to storyUndrafted free-agent CB Paul Manning (Henderson State) was signed by the Denver Broncos on Tuesday, May 12. In a corresponding move, the Broncos have cut CB Will Wright.
Link to storyDenver Broncos RB Deuce Vaughn was waived on Tuesday, May 12.
Footballguys view: Vaughn entered the league with the Dallas Cowboys as a sixth-round pick out of Kansas State in the 2023 NFL draft. He totaled 168 yards from scrimmage on 50 touches in 14 career games in Dallas before landing on Denver's practice squad last summer. He did not appear in any games last season.

Free-agent QB Nathan Peterman (Falcons) and undrafted free-agent QB EJ Warner (Fresno State) tried out for the Denver Broncos this past weekend, but the Broncos will not be signing either quarterback at this point.
Link to storyNathan Peterman player page
Free-agent WR Michael Woods II (Browns) agreed to terms with the Denver Broncos Monday, May 11, according to a source. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Woods was a sixth-round pick by the Browns in 2022. He played 10 games as a rookie, but missed all of 2023 with a torn Achilles. He returned for five games in 2024 and finished his time in Cleveland with 12 catches for 110 yards. Woods spent time on the Packers' practice squad after being cut by the Browns last year. Courtland Sutton, Jaylen Waddle, Marvin Mims, Troy Franklin, Pat Bryant, and Lil'Jordan Humphrey are the other veteran wideouts in Denver.
Denver Broncos RB Jonah Coleman might be in line for the No. 3 job behind RBs J.K. Dobbins and RJ Harvey. He was selected with the team's second pick, and he is tough, and Coleman can catch passes and pass protect, which should endear him to head coach Sean Payton.
Footballguys view: With Dobbins injured and unavailable down the stretch last year, Harvey was inefficient as the primary back. As a result, the Broncos entered the offseason looking to bolster the ground attack. That's precisely why they used their second pick on Coleman. Coleman is a tough, physical running back with three-down capabilities due to his ability to catch passes and pass protect. According to SI.com's Justin Melo, Sean Payton will immediately fall in love with his commitment and rugged approach.
Denver Broncos QB Bo Nix (ankle) will probably do some throwing during the June minicamp and should be fully healthy for training camp, according to head coach Sean Payton.
Footballguys view: Nix's injury might have been worse than originally let on, but as long as he is a full go at the open of camp, we won't change the outlook for him or the Denver offense this season.
Denver Broncos QB Bo Nix (ankle) might be on the field in some capacity during minicamp from June 16-18, and head coach Sean Payton said Nix should be full speed in July.
Link to storyDenver Broncos head coach Sean Payton told reporters there is 'a good chance' QB Bo Nix (ankle) will be on the field in June.
Link to storyUpdating previous reports, undrafted free-agent WR Kolbe Katsis (Northern Arizona), WR Dane Key (Nebraska), WR Joseph Manjack IV (TCU) and WR Cam Ross (Virginia) officially signed with the Denver Broncos Friday, May 8. Terms of the contracts were not disclosed.
Link to storyDenver Broncos DE Garrett Nelson was waived by the team on Friday, May 8.
Link to storyDenver Broncos general manager George Paton has reached an agreement with the Denver Broncos on a five-year extension on Friday, May 8.
Footballguys view: Paton has cemented himself as one of the best GMs in football. The Broncos are Super Bowl contenders now because of the talent that Paton has found the team - mostly through the draft but also in free agency. With a big trade for WR Jaylen Waddle this offseason, Broncos fans are excited about what this passing game could look like. Paton gets a lot of flowers for the work he's done meshing with Sean Payton as well.
Undrafted free-agent RB Rodney Hammond (Sacramento State) has been invited to participate in the Denver Broncos rookie minicamp on a tryout basis, according to sources.
Link to storyDenver Broncos seventh-round pick S Miles Scott signed his rookie four-year deal Thursday, May 7. Financial terms weren't disclosed.
Link to storyDenver Broncos fifth-round pick TE Justin Joly signed his rookie four-year deal Thursday, May 7. Financial terms weren't disclosed.
Footballguys view: Joly has some move tight end skill, and he's going to be able to hone that skill set behind Evan Engram in 2026. With Davis Webb calling plays instead of Sean Payton this year, we think Engram has more of an impact than he did a year ago. His 50 catches for 461 yards and one touchdown were disappointing for Fantasy GMs, and Engram finished as the no.25 tight end in standard-scoring formats. Joly is not as athletic as Engram, but he's a slippery player the Broncos moved up for on Day 3 of the 2026 NFL Draft.
Free-agent WR Michael Woods II and DE Isaiah Thomas have reportedly had a veteran tryout at the Denver Broncos' rookie minicamp, according to a source on Wednesday, May 6.
Link to storyFree-agent S Brandon Hill reportedly attended the Denver Broncos' rookie minicamp for a veteran tryout, according to a source on Wednesday, May 6.
