Packers | Chase Claypool will not be joining team Mon May 4, 03:34 PM
Free-agent WR Chase Claypool (Bills) will not be signing with the Green Bay Packers after he participated in the team's rookie minicamp on a tryout basis.
Footballguys view: Claypool was one of nine players to try out for the team during their rookie minicamp over the weekend. None of the nine tryout players were signed. Claypool was drafted 49th overall by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2020 NFL Draft. In 58 career games, Claypool totaled 175 receptions, 2,261 receiving yards, and 13 touchdowns. He remains an unrestricted free agent available to any team interested.

Green Bay Packers QB Desmond Ridder was released Monday, May 4, according to a source.
Footballguys view: The Packers are choosing to move forward with Kyle McCord over Ridder, as far as their reserve-futures quarterbacks go. The move came after the Packers signed veteran Tyrod Taylor as the presumptive backup to Jordan Love. Moving forward, the team has starter Jordan Love, Taylor, McCord, and undrafted rookie Kyron Drones. According to SBNation, with the lanes cleared, all eyes will be on McCord this offseason, who can compete for QB2 on the 53-man roster or a spot on the practice squad.
Free-agent QB Tyrod Taylor (Jets) agreed to terms with the Green Bay Packers Monday, May 4, according to a source. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Taylor is now the favorite to back up Jordan Love, who is entering his fourth season as a starter. Taylor would replace Malik Willis, who played behind Love the past two seasons before signing with the Dolphins in free agency. Before signing the 36-year-old Taylor, the only other quarterbacks the Packers had on the roster were Desmond Ridder, who is being released today, and Kyle McCord. Taylor was a sixth-round pick of the Ravens in 2011, one of only five players from that draft still active in 2025. For his career, Taylor is 29-31-1 as a starter.

SMU TE RJ Maryland is signing as an undrafted free agent with the Green Bay Packers, according to a source.
Footballguys view: Maryland is a linear athlete, but he ran a 4.51 at 6'4" 236 and looks like a wide receiver tracking and catching the ball downfield. He was coming off of a 2024 ACL tear last year, so there could be hidden upside to this wide receiver/tight end tweener - an archetype that has produced unlikely fantasy football hits in the past.

Link to storyFlorida WR J. Michael Sturdivant agreed to terms with the Green Bay Packers Saturday, April 25, according to a source. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Sturdivant is a big (6'2" 207) receiver with speed (4.4 40) whose quarterback did him no favors when it came time to put good plays on tape for the NFL. He will be in contention to make the Packers roster after the team lost Romeo Doubs in free agency.
