Texans | Caserio on Stroud contract: 'Couldn't quite come to agreement,' 'nobody is discouraged' Mon Oct 26, 11:20 AM
Texans GM Nick Caserio said Monday that the team and QB C.J. Stroud "couldn't quite come to agreement" on a contract extension. "There wasn't any reluctance," Caserio said. "Nobody is discouraged. Have a lot of respect for C.J. and David (Mulugheta). At some point, it will take care of itself."
| Footballguys view: The 25-year-old Stroud is playing out the season on the final year of his four-year, $36.28 million rookie contract, and Houston already picked up his $25.9 million fully guaranteed fifth-year option for 2027. While Stroud has been great for fantasy managers, he's currently QB7 with 1,867 passing yards, 11 touchdowns, and one interception; Houston is just 2-5 after entering the season considered to be among the Super Bowl favorites. Stroud and the Texans will use the bye week to regroup before returning in Week 9 to try to get their season back on track. |

Per sources, the deal involves a 2027 second-round pick and a 2027 sixth-round pick, with the Cardinals getting a 2027 seventh-round pick. Harrison is a third-year player and a former No. 4 overall pick.
| Footballguys view: The Texans are clearly retrenching their offense around C.J. Stroud. They have made two trades to replace up-and-coming 2025 second-round pick Jayden Higgins, who went down with an ACL injury before the season. Harrison should be used as a "sacrificial X receiver" to hopefully allow Nico Collins to move around the formation and move the Texans pass offense into the 21st century. Kendrick Bourne will replace Harrison in the Cardinals lineup, but he is only worth a look in deep PPR leagues. Harrison still isn't worth carrying in typical redraft leagues, but he does bolster Stroud's value.
