Texans | Tank Dell works on side Thu May 28, 04:28 PM
Houston Texans WR Tank Dell (knee) worked on a side field during the voluntary workout Thursday, May 28.
Footballguys view: Dell dislocated his knee cap and tore his ACL, MCL, and LCL while catching a touchdown pass against the Kansas City Chiefs two seasons ago. Dell underwent a pair of surgeries and has made significant progress, but he's still not ready to practice. The Texans are taking a patient, big-picture approach with Dell. He has been running routes and cutting for months, but not at full speed. The hope is that he can ramp up his participation by training camp and regain his old dynamic form. There are no guarantees, but it's great to see him making progress.

Houston Texans TE Brevin Jordan (knee) participated in the voluntary workout Thursday, May 28, according to head coach DeMeco Ryans.
Footballguys view: Jordan has sustained major injuries in each of the past two seasons. He tore his ACL against the Chicago Bears two years ago. And then he tore his patellar tendon in the same leg last August during a routine training camp practice. The team is managing the workload and stress on his leg to avoid any setbacks. We'll monitor his progress in training camp, but Dalton Schultz remains the lone fantasy prospect at the position in Houston.

Houston Texans WR Nico Collins and the Texans have agreed to an adjusted contract that guarantees his salary in 2027 and includes a $9 million cash increase in 2026 and an $8 million cash increase in 2027, a source told KPRC.com's Aaron Wilson.
Footballguys view: Collins is 10th among receivers in receiving yards (2,123), fourth in receiving yards per game (78.4), and tied for 14th in touchdowns (13) since 2024. He heads into 2026 being drafted as WR9 -- mirroring his Footballguys 2026 Draft projection -- with the 24th pick overall. Working in a run-heavy offense, with a still-unproven quarterback in C.J. Stroud, and for a team with the best defense in the NFL hasn't been an issue. And Stroud's willingness to push the ball downfield maximizes Collins profile, giving him a low-end WR1 floor and an explosive weekly ceiling on fewer targets.

Free-agent WR Jha'Quan Jackson (Saints) and LB K.C. Ossai (Dolphins) have reportedly signed with the Houston Texans after a successful workout last week, according to a source on Tuesday, May 26.
Link to storyHouston Texans TE Cade Stover (hernia, knee) has recovered from offseason hernia surgery and is participating in offseason workouts, according to sources. He was also dealing with partially torn medial collateral and posterior cruciate ligaments after the season but did not need surgery on those injuries.
Footballguys view: Stover is currently cross-training as a blocking fullback in offensive coordinator Nick Caley's system while continuing to play tight end. The Texans also have Dalton Schultz, who caught a team-high and career-high 82 passes, second-round pick Marlin Klein, former New Orleans Saints starter Foster Moreau, and Brevin Jordan, who's making a sound recovery from a torn patellar tendon that sidelined him for the entire season one year after tearing his ACL. The battle for playing time, especially for the second and third tight end positions on the depth chart, is where Stover will compete this summer.
Houston Texans LB E.J. Speed partially tore his quadriceps on Friday, May 22. He will have surgery next week and is expected back at some point in the regular season.

Houston Texans DB Ajani Carter (hamstring) was waived with an injury designation Thursday, May 21.
Link to storyFree-agent WR Samori Toure (Saints), WR Dee Eskridge (Dolphins), WR River Cracraft (Commanders) and WR Jha'Quan Jackson (Saints) recently worked out for the Houston Texans, according to sources. The Texans also worked out undrafted free-agent WR Demarcus Lacey (Marshall).

Houston Texans RB Woody Marks said he is 'very excited' about the addition of RB David Montgomery to the running backs' room, and he is already forming a dynamic partnership with him. 'Just looking back at the clips with him and (Detroit Lions RB) Jahmyr Gibbs, it looked like they was having so much fun out there,' Marks said. 'When the running back room doing good and everybody blocking, it's a party in the running back room. So, we're looking to have that same joy him and (Gibbs) had bringing it down here in Houston.
Footballguys view: In Marks' rookie season, he led the Texans with 703 rushing yards on 196 attempts (3.6 yards per carry), two touchdowns, including 24 receptions for three receiving TDs. It was quite an impressive campaign for the 2025 fourth-round pick out of USC, as he led Houston's RB room filled with veterans like Nick Chubb, Dameon Pierce, and Dare Ogunbowale. This year, ADP indicates that Montgomery is of more interest to fantasy investors. The former Lion is RB25. Marks is going as WR43.

Houston Texans RB Woody Marks said offensive coordinator Nick Caley has had him working on his route running this offseason.
Footballguys view: Marks has big-play ability anytime he touches the ball. It would make sense for the Texans to have him work on his receiving ability. David Montgomery was added to work with Marks in an RBBC. With Montgomery likely the lead back, and Marks playing more of a receiving-back role, we could see Marks settling in as a deep flex play for Fantasy GMs.
Houston Texans second-round draft choice TE Marlin Klein signed a four-year contract with the Texans Thursday, May 14. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Born in Germany, Klein is the highest-drafted German player in NFL history. He's a big target with high-end speed and explosiveness (9.59 RAS). Klein was mainly a blocker, spending time at Michigan behind 2025 first-round pick Colston Loveland, so his production as a receiver in college was limited.
Houston Texans LB Wade Woodaz signed his rookie contract with the team on Wednesday, May 13. The contract is for four years, but financial terms were not disclosed.
Link to storyWhen trade rumors swirled about Texans wide receiver Nico Collins ahead of the draft, general manager Nick Caserio didn't hesitate to make it clear that the team has no interest in parting ways with the wideout. Caserio said anyone thinking that a trade could happen "can shove it" because the Texans won't be making a deal. That sounds like it was music to Collins' ears because he said this weekend that he does not have any interest in wearing a different uniform. "I love the Texans," Collins said. "I got drafted here . . . It's definitely a place I would like to retire."
Footballguys view: As PFT's Josh Alper notes, while Collins wants to stick around the Texans, the business side of things will always play a role in how a career plays out, and Collins has slipped down the list of best-paid wideouts since signing an extension in 2024. That deal could be revisited, but a failure to find common ground could lead to different thoughts about a shared future in Houston. For now, Collins, who finished as WR8 despite missing two games last season, heads into 2026 as WR9 on the Footballguys 2026 Draft Projections.

Houston Texans WR Tank Dell (knee) has been doing well in the team's offseason conditioning program, as he makes his way back from a dislocated left knee, torn anterior cruciate ligament, as well as torn medial collateral and lateral collateral ligaments. He has made a lot of progress, and he is running again and cutting in his routes, although he is not back to 100 percent.
Footballguys view: CJ Stroud's best performances came with Dell on the field, so his return can only be a good thing for the Texans quarterback. It might not be a good thing for the fantasy value of Nico Collins, as Stroud targeted Dell (when the receiver was a rookie) just about as often as he did Collins.

Houston Texans WR Nico Collins said this week that he would like to spend his entire career with the organization. 'I love the Texans,' Collins said. 'I got drafted here. It's somewhere I want to end. I love the city, the people, the community. There's a lot of great positive vibes coming out of the city of Houston. So, it's definitely a place I would like to retire.' He is due $20 million fully guaranteed in 2026, and $21.25 million non-guaranteed in 2027. He is the 18th-highest paid wide receiver in terms of average compensation in 2026.

Houston Texans QB C.J. Stroud has CEO Cal McNair's backing, saying the Texans are 'fully committed' to Stroud on Monday, May 4.
Footballguys view: This figures to be a big season for Stroud. Last month, the Texans picked up the fifth-year option on his contract. Now, the Texans have another year to negotiate with Stroud's camp and make sure he is their long-term solution at quarterback. During the past two seasons, he failed to throw more than 20 passing touchdowns (with one rushing TD) en route to QB17 and QB21 finishes. A stingy Houston defense means the Texans don't have to throw much, and it's hard to envision a huge shift this year. Stroud's Footballguys projection, QB20, reflects all that.

Former Tennessee Titans DE Ali Gaye was claimed off waivers by the Houston Texans Friday, May 1.
Link to storyHouston Texans LB Azeez Al-Shaair agreed to terms on a three-year contract extension with the Texans Wednesday, April 29. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Al-Shaair had his first Pro Bowl season in 2025 after totaling 103 tackles, two interceptions, and nine pass deflections. He wore the "green dot" on defense as he relayed the playcalls from Texans defensive coordinator Matt Burke for the No. 1-ranked total defense (277.2 yards per game) and No. 2 scoring defense (17.4 points per game) last season. There were also times when Al-Shaair called the plays himself when the opposing offense was in hurry-up mode, so he's an important contributor.

I think C.J. is going to come in and be even more of a leader than he's been. I think his approach will be different. Me and C.J. had a discussion probably about a month and a half ago and talked about the season and what he could be better at.
