Texans | Braden Smith to miss time Thu Aug 27, 09:51 AM
Houston Texans OT Braden Smith (foot) is likely out a few weeks with an injury to his plantar fascia.
Link to storyHouston Texans QB C.J. Stroud changed his diet and added muscle this offseason in order to improve his speed. 'I do feel fast,' Stroud said. 'You want to be explosive, but I also think it has to do with making sure you're able to take hits.'
Footballguys view: Reports out of Houston indicate Stroud is continuing to develop a strong relationship with OC Nick Caley, and this offseason it seems like he's got more command of the offense. Eligible for a new contract, Stroud has been business-like in his offseason work and reps in training camp. While he may not have to fill the air with footballs (having an elite defense means they may not be too pass-happy), Stroud is a QB2 with upside for Fantasy GMs ....more upside if he's running a bit more.

Houston Texans DE Dylan Horton (Achilles) to was placed on injured reserve on Tuesday, Aug. 25 with a torn Achilles. The team signed DE Derek Parish.
Link to storyHouston Texans DE Dylan Horton (Achilles) is feared to have suffered a torn Achilles tendon during practice Monday, Aug. 24, according to sources.
Footballguys view: Per multiple reports, Horton tore his Achilles during the team's workout. Horton has been with the Texans since being selected in the fourth round of the 2023 draft. Horton missed the end of his rookie season and the start of the 2024 campaign while battling lymphoma. He has been in remission since March 2024. When healthy, Horton has appeared in 39 regular-season games for the Texans. He had 55 tackles, a half-sack, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery in that action. He also has two tackles in four playoff games.
Free agent LB Caleb Johnson (Dolphins) and S George Odum (Colts) have signed with the Houston Texans, according to a source on Monday, Aug. 24. The Texans also waived LB Marte Mapu with a waived/injured designation.

Houston Texans RB Josh Pitsenberger (ankle) was waived from the Reserve/Injured list Monday, Aug. 24, after the two sides reached an injury settlement.
Link to storyNew England Patriots WR Kayshon Boutte is being acquired by the Houston Texans in exchange for S Jaylen Reed and an undisclosed draft choice, according to sources.
Footballguys view: The Texans, who needed a replacement for the injured Jayden Higgins, found an ideal option. Entering the final year of his rookie contract, Boutte was the odd man out of the Patriots' revamped receiving corps. A sixth-round pick in 2023, Boutte caught 33 passes for 551 yards with six touchdowns in 14 regular-season games last year. He also had nine catches for 168 yards with a touchdown in four postseason contests. Viewing him in the same range as Higgins -- or another player joining a new team, Stefon Diggs in Washington -- is a starting point for fantasy investors.

Link to storyHouston Texans RB Noah Whittington (ankle), RB British Brooks (hand) and RB Jawhar Jordan (hip) are not participating in practice Saturday, Aug. 22.
Link to storyFree-agent WR Sterling Shepard (Buccaneers) and WR Zay Jones (Cardinals) agreed to terms with the Houston Texans Friday, Aug. 21, according to a source. Terms of the contracts were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: With Jayden Higgins (knee) out for the year, the Texans needed to add more depth to the wide receiver room. With the Cardinals, Jones caught 12 passes for 183 yards before rupturing an Achilles tendon in Week 10 against Seattle last year. Shepard played in 13 games for the Buccaneers last year and caught 39 passes for 371 yards and a touchdown. While they give the Texans veteran depth, Fantasy GMs have much better options as late-round fliers in deep leagues.

Houston Texans RB Woody Marks rushed four times for 37 yards and a touchdown and caught one pass for six yards in the preseason game against the Las Vegas Raiders Thursday, Aug. 20.
Footballguys view: Marks was excellent and looked like a back deserving of more work than a typical #2 back and the Texans run game pushed the Raiders around. That's good for Marks, Montgomery, and De'Von Achane and Malik Willis, who face the Raiders along with their Dolphin teammates in Week 1. Montgomery was rested as an entrenched starter would be, so don't worry about this performance lowering his value.
Free-agent WR DeAndre Hopkins (Ravens) is not expected to be a target for the Houston Texans, according to sources.

Baltimore Ravens WR Rashod Bateman is believed to be a possible trade target for the Houston Texans, according to sources.

New England Patriots WR Kayshon Boutte is believed to be a possible trade target for the Houston Texans, according to sources.
Footballguys view: While this would be good for Boutte's playing time compared to New England, where he appears to be at the bottom of the depth chart even though he has been stacking good practices all summer, it still wouldn't be a plum fantasy spot in the run first Texans offense. Rashod Bateman was also mentioned as a possible trade target. The problem with both ideas is that Baltimore and New England see Houston as a rival for a Super Bowl berth, so they may not be keen on helping them adjust after losing a expected key contributor.

Houston Texans WR Jayden Higgins (knee) was placed on season-ending injured reserve on Friday, Aug. 21.

Houston Texans WR Jayden Higgins (knee) suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament during a joint practice Tuesday, Aug. 18, and will miss the 2026 season, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Footballguys view: Higgins was poised to take a big step forward this year, so this is a bummer for the Texans offense and CJ Stroud. Xavier Hutchinson and Jaylin Noel - who just returned from a hamstring injury and also missed time with a finger injury this summer - will pick up some of the slack, but the team could also just lean into the multi-tight end set trend that will help David Montgomery and the running game. Tank Dell was in street clothes at practice recently and the team said he is on his own plan regarding a timetable to return.
Texans wide receiver Jayden Higgins left the team's joint practice with the Raiders early. It appeared to be a lower-body injury, Jonathan Alexander of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Footballguys view: Higgins hit the ground on a red-zone play in team drills. Athletic trainers checked him out before he walked off the field under his own power. Coach DeMeco Ryans did not offer an update after practice, but quarterback C.J. Stroud said he thinks Higgins is "fine." Higgins, who had 41 catches for 525 yards and six touchdowns as a rookie last year, has had a productive camp. Higgins is being drafted as WR53 in Round 11.
Free-agent CB Bryce Hall (Buccaneers) was signed by the Houston Texans, according to a source on Monday, Aug. 17.

Houston Texans WR Jaylin Noel (hamstring, finger) will miss a few weeks after suffering a setback, according to wide receivers coach Ben McDaniels.
Footballguys view: Noel, sidelined by a minor finger issue, was activated from the NFI list and was working off to the side in wide receiver drills to get back on the field. But Aaron Wilson of KPRC2 reports that Noel is now dealing with a hamstring injury in addition to the finger injury. It's a tough break for the Texans' second-year wideout, who, while he's expected to see a big bump in opportunities in 2026, can't seem to get on the field in training camp. We'll follow up as developments warrant.

Link to storyHouston Texans TE Brevin Jordan (knee) is considered day-to-day because of a knee injury, according to head coach DeMeco Ryans.
Footballguys view: As Fansided's Clayton Anderson noted, after missing the last two NFL seasons due to multiple knee injuries, Jordan's opportunities to show his value to the organization were slowly dissipating. That said, there is no reason to believe it's a severe injury at this point. It does put his availability for Thursday's preseason game versus the Chargers into question. According to CBSSports.com, until Jordan is back, rookie second-rounder Marlin Klein could see an uptick in reps.
