Dolphins | De'Von Achane more productive at home Thu Feb 5, 07:23 PM
Miami Dolphins RB De'Von Achane rushed for 916 yards and seven touchdowns at home during the 2025 regular season. He rushed for 434 yards and one touchdown during road games.
Footballguys view: The Dolphins were a much better team at home, which backs up the idea that Mike McDaniel built a "warm weather" team. There's no colder place to play in the NFL than Green Bay, which is where new head coach Jeff Hafley is coming from. New Dolphins offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik was on last year's staff and has spent many years on the same staff as McDaniel in San Francisco, so there should be continuity, but it can't be an upgrade. Hopefully Hafley's cold weather background can help balance out these splits in 2026.
Free-agent TE Zack Kuntz (Jets) signed a Reserve/Future contract with the Miami Dolphins Thursday, Feb. 5. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Miami Dolphins linebackers coach/defensive run game coordinator Joe Barry has signed a new multi-year contract to remain with the Dolphins, a source told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Link to storyNew head coach Jeff Hafley is taking from his former team to build out the top of his defensive staff. The Miami Dolphins are expected to hire Green Bay Packers linebackers coach Sean Duggan as their new defensive coordinator, NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported Sunday.
Footballguys view: Duggan, who at 32 becomes the second-youngest coordinator in the NFL, previously coached with Hafley at Ohio State and Boston College. Duggan takes over a Dolphins defense that ranked 22nd in yards allowed per game last season and 25th in defensive expected points added. While the unit as a whole will likely change from a season ago, it features building blocks such as defensive tackles Zach Sieler, Kenneth Grant, and Jordan Phillips, linebackers Jordyn Brooks, Bradley Chubb, and Chop Robinson, and safety Minkah Fitzpatrick.
Former Georgia Tech linebackers coach Darius Eubanks is joining the Miami Dolphins coaching staff as an assistant special teams coordinator, a league source said Sunday, Feb. 1.
Link to storyMiami Dolphins RB De'Von Achane recorded 719 rushing yards after contact during the 2025 regular season, which ranked third in the NFL in that category.
Footballguys view: As SI.com suggested, Achane was basically the entire Dolphins offense at different points this season. His ability to break tackles made it a lot easier for him to eclipse 1,000 rushing yards for the first time, and it kept the Dolphins' offense on schedule. Miami's running game became its identity about halfway through the season, and Achane, who finished the season as RB3 in fantasy, was the reason why. Even with a new GM, head coach, and playcaller, expecting Achane to remain the most fantasy-relevant piece in this offense is not a reach.

Green Bay Packers linebackers coach Sean Duggan will be joining new Miami Dolphins head coach Jeff Hafley, per the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's Tom Silverstein, who writes that Duggan could become the new defensive coordinator.
Link to storyGreen Bay Packers defensive backs coach Ryan Downard is joining the Miami Dolphins coaching staff in an undisclosed role, according to a source.
Link to storyTennessee Titans wide receivers coach Tyke Tolbert has been hired by the Miami Dolphins as their new wide receiver coach, according to a source.
Footballguys view: Tolbert will join Bobby Slowik's staff and bring decades of experience serving under the 38-year-old offensive coordinator. Tolbert has a ring from his time with the Denver Broncos when he was on Gary Kubiak's staff. Slowik is a disciple of Kyle Shanahan, and Kubiak a disciple of Kyle's father Mike, so there should be a bridge between the two coaches.
Miami Dolphins senior passing game coordinator Bobby Slowik has been hired as the new offensive coordinator, sources said Saturday, Jan. 24. He previously served as the offensive coordinator with the Houston Texans during the rookie season with QB C.J. Stroud.
Footballguys view: It's the second coordinator hire that new head coach Jeff Hafley has made since getting the job. They are also hiring Chris Tabor as their special teams coordinator. Slowik spent the 2025 season as the Dolphins' senior passing game coordinator. He was the Texans' offensive coordinator in 2023 and 2024. Slowik worked with quarterbacks Tua Tagovailoa and Quinn Ewers during the 2025 season, but Hafley and new General Manager Jon-Eric Sullivan have not shared their quarterback plans for 2026 yet.

Miami Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill (knee) is likely to be released and designated a post-June 1 cut, according to ESPN's Marcel Louis-Jacques, who writes it remains 'unclear' when he'll be able to return after dislocating his knee. Louis-Jacques adds that this would be the 'most fiscally reasonable solution.'
Footballguys view: New GM Jon-Eric Sullivan will have to decide on the futures of several players, including Hill. With Sullivan stressing the importance of team culture, it's hard to imagine a scenario in which Hill is part of this franchise going forward. The real question is what teams might be interested in the veteran speedster. We'll be watching for more.

Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa is not expected to return on his 'current deal,' in the opinion of ESPN's Marcel Louis-Jacques, who writes that trading Tagovailoa 'will be tricky' based on his level of play and money remaining on his contract. Louis-Jacques adds that the Dolphins could 'sweeten' any trade package for their quarterback by 'including a draft pick.'
Footballguys view: Louis-Jacques explained that cutting Tagovailoa would result in a $99 million dead cap hit, whether it's all at once this season or spread across the next two seasons; trading him will be tricky considering his play over the past two seasons and the money he's owed. After an injury-shortened 2024 season, Tagovailoa led the NFL in interceptions at the time of his benching this season with a career-high 15, while sporting a career-low 37.4 QBR. This is a situation fantasy investors will want to monitor.

Green Bay Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley officially agreed to terms with the Miami Dolphins Monday, Jan. 19, to become their new head coach.
Footballguys view: Hafley comes to a Miami team in dire need of an identity shift, with plenty of questions to answer after two consecutive losing seasons. The Dolphins in recent years developed a reputation for soft play, featuring speed over enforcers, and that showed in the team's 24th-ranked scoring defense. Considering that's Hafley's specialty, he'll be counted on to transform the culture into something more hard-nosed, and a decision at QB will be the focal point in Miami.
The Dolphins have zeroed in on Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley as their new head coach, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero.
Footballguys view: The two sides need to do a deal, and they are motivated to do so. One of the most coveted candidates, Hafley, 46, impressed as the Packers' defensive coordinator the past two seasons after a stint as Boston College HC. Now he reunites with GM Jon-Eric Sullivan in Miami.
Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Kelvin Sheppard is interviewing with the Miami Dolphins Monday, Jan. 19, for their head coaching vacancy.
Footballguys view: Much of the focus on the Dolphins' head coaching search in recent days has been on their second meeting with Packers DC Jeff Hafley, but he's not the only candidate meeting with the team on Monday. Raiders DC Patrick Graham and Shepherd are both getting interviews today. Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald notes that the two interviews will satisfy the Dolphins' Rooney Rule requirements, which means they'll be free to move forward with hiring Hafley or any other candidate they select. Hafley has interviews scheduled with the Titans and Raiders, but Miami is the frontrunner.

Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady spent some time with another AFC East team a day after Buffalo's season came to an end. The Dolphins announced the completion of an interview with Brady for their head coaching vacancy on Sunday. The Ravens also interviewed Brady on Sunday.
Footballguys view: Brady took over as the offensive coordinator in Buffalo when Ken Dorsey was fired during the 2023 season. The Bills finished sixth in points scored that season and posted second- and fourth-place finishes the last two years. The Dolphins have also interviewed Rams defensive coordinator Chris Shula, Jaguars defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile, 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh, Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter, Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley, Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, and Kevin Stefanski. The Falcons have hired Stefanski, while Hafley is set for a second interview with Miami this week.

Link to storyLos Angeles Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter is interviewing for the Miami Dolphins head coaching position Thursday, Jan. 15.
Link to storyJacksonville Jaguars defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile has been requested for an interview by the Miami Dolphins for their head coaching vacancy.
Footballguys view: What a year Campanile's defense had in Jacksonville. He was previously the linebackers coach with the Dolphins for a few seasons, so the team knows him well. The Dolphins need a reboot on the defensive side of the ball, and they need to figure out their quarterback situation (first and foremost) on the offensive side of the ball.
The Miami Dolphins have requested to interview Las Vegas Raiders defensive coordinator Patrick Graham for their head coach position.
Link to storyThe Miami Dolphins have parted ways with assistant general manager Marvin Allen.
Link to storyFormer Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski is interviewing with the Miami Dolphins for their head coaching vacancy Tuesday, Jan. 13.
Footballguys view: Since the Browns fired him earlier this month, Stefanski has also interviewed with the Giants, Raiders, Titans, Ravens, and Falcons. Stefanski accumulated a 45-56 record with Cleveland from 2020-2025, twice winning AP coach of the year. Even with former Steelers coach Mike Tomlin and former Ravens coach John Harbaugh in the pool, Stefanski is still considered a strong candidate.
The Miami Dolphins announced that they have completed an interview with Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak for their vacant head coaching position on Saturday, Jan. 10.
Footballguys view: Kubiak is one of the hottest names available this offseason. He runs a West Coast/Shanahan system that emphasizes wide-zone concepts and a strong rushing attack to set up play-action passing. Hiring Kubiak would be great for the Dolphins backfield, but we need to see how the quarterback situation shakes out for 2026 and beyond before we get too excited about any coaching hire.

Free agent tight end Cole Turner (Titans) signed a reserve/future contract with the Miami Dolphins.
Link to storyGreen Bay Packers vice president of player personnel Jon-Eric Sullivan was hired as Miami Dolphins general manager Friday, Jan. 9.
Link to storyMiami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel was fired Thursday, Jan. 8.
Footballguys view: Dolphins' owner Stephen Ross loves McDaniel, but a recent meeting had the billionaire confused about the direction of his team. Instead of keeping the status quo, Ross decided to fire McDaniel (who is already getting OC interest from the Lions). Even with a late surge this season, the 1-6 start to begin 2025 seemed to have doomed the young head coach. He'll likely get another shot eventually, but McDaniel may have to go back to being an OC for a year or so.
Miami Dolphins WR A.J. Henning, DT Alex Huntley, LB Derrick McLendon, LB K.C. Ossai, OL Josh Priebe and OL Kion Smith were signed to reserve/futures contracts Tuesday, Jan. 6.
Link to storyMiami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa indicated that he is open to playing for a different team next season.
Footballguys view: When Tagovailoa was benched following a Dec. 15 loss to the Steelers, it seemed likely his time in Miami was coming to an end. Asked on Monday if he was hoping for a fresh start, Tagovailoa said, "That would be dope. I would be good with it." Tagovailoa is owed $54 million guaranteed in 2026. He could be released with a post-June 1 designation at the start of the new league year to split his $99.2 million cap charge over two years. Mike McDaniels' return as HC would all but guarantee Tua's departure. We'll watch for more on all this.

San Francisco 49ers director of football operations Josh Z. Williams has been sought after for an interview by the Miami Dolphins for their general manager vacancy.
Footballguys view: In addition to Williams, the first set of names includes 49ers vice president of player personnel Tariq Ahmad, Eagles assistant G.M. Alec Halaby, Rams assistant G.M. John McKay, and Packers vice president of player personnel Jon-Eric Sullivan. As Profootballtalk.com noted, Halaby, Sullivan, and Williams have made the interview rounds in recent years, and all five candidates work for teams that have been regulars in the playoffs in recent seasons. The Dolphins have missed the postseason the last two years and would like their eventual hire to have a hand in ending that drought.
Dolphins rookie quarterback Quinn Ewers appears to have avoided a worst-case outcome following a knee injury in the Week 18 finale against the Patriots.
Footballguys view: Ewers went down in the fourth quarter with Miami trailing 38-10. It immediately sparked concern, given the non-contact nature of the play. However, head coach Mike McDaniel offered cautious optimism after the game, revealing the initial evaluation showed a "stable knee" and "not what people would fear." That was a notable sigh of relief for a franchise already staring at a pivotal offseason with many questions -- including head coach and QB.
