Minnesota Vikings RB Jordan Mason (ankle) practiced in full on Friday, Jan. 2, and no longer appears on the injury report.
Footballguys view: Aaron Jones is managing a hip injury that will keep him out this week. That puts Mason atop the depth chart. His production in starts has been hit-or-miss this year, but he should see enough volume to be started as a back-end RB2 this week.
Minnesota Vikings QB J.J. McCarthy (hand) will start Week 18 against the Green Bay Packers.

Free-agent RB Sincere McCormick (Broncos) was signed to the Minnesota Vikings practice squad Wednesday, Dec. 31.
Link to storyMinnesota Vikings QB J.J. McCarthy (hand) will practice after a 'positive day,' according to head coach Kevin O'Connell.
Footballguys view: Max Brosmer will play if McCarthy can't go. He's trending in the right direction, but this will come down to grip strength for the second-year quarterback. Most Vikings fans are done defending McCarthy, but a good game in a meaningless Week 18 game could help the vibes around his 2026 outlook.
Minnesota Vikings DT Elijah Williams (ankle) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Monday, Dec. 29.
Link to storyVikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy's status for Week 18 remains up in the air.
Footballguys view: McCarthy missed the team's Christmas win over the Lions with a hairline fracture to his left, non-throwing hand. Coach Kevin O'Connell told reporters Monday that McCarthy is "progressing" and that there's less swelling in the hand than there was leading into last Thursday's game. O'Connell said that McCarthy's grip strength will be the determining factor in his ability to play against the Packers this week and that the team will have a better idea where he's at on that front later in the week. Max Brosmer will get another start if McCarthy can't go.

The Minnesota Vikings have not had substantive talks with WR Jalen Nailor on an extension, according to ESPN.com's Kevin Seifert. He is currently in the final season of his rookie contract.
Footballguys view: Nailor has been the most efficient target for JJ McCarthy, but the team drafted Tai Felton in the third round back in April as a potential replacement and McCarthy isn't exactly entrenched as the starting quarterback going into the offseason. The open market is likely to pay Nailor more than the Vikings would. He is worth carrying in deep dynasty leagues through the offseason as a player who could have a larger role on his second contract with a new team.
Minnesota Vikings WR Myles Price (ankle) suffered an ankle injury during the Week 17 game against the Detroit Lions.

Minnesota Vikings C Ryan Kelly (concussion) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Wednesday, Dec. 24.
Link to storyMinnesota Vikings RB Jordan Mason (ankle) did not practice all week and has been ruled out for Week 17 against the Detroit Lions.
Footballguys view: Mason's season may be done as the Vikings have nothing left to play for. Aaron Jones has been cleared to play, and he will get the bulk of the workload against the Lions on Christmas.
Minnesota Vikings RB Aaron Jones Sr. (ankle) was limited in practice all week and no longer appears on the injury report.
Footballguys view: With Jordan Mason (ankle) out of action, Jones is in line for a bulk of the work from the backfield for the Vikings. Against the Lions on Christmas, we like Jones as an RB2/flex option for Fantasy GMs.

Minnesota Vikings RB Ty Chandler (knee) was activated from injured reserve on Tuesday, Dec. 23.
Footballguys view: Chandler was designated to return on December 3, so Tuesday was the final day that he could return to action during the 2026 season. Chandler was placed on injured reserve after he suffered a knee injury in Week 1. Chandler did not have any touches in that game, but had 164 carries for 663 yards and three touchdowns in his first three seasons with Minnesota. He also had 27 catches for 201 yards. The Vikings saw Jordan Mason go down with an ankle injury in Week 16 and he was listed as out of practice on Monday, so Chandler could be in line for work against the Lions on Christmas.
Minnesota Vikings QB Max Brosmer will start Week 17 against the Detroit Lions due to an injury to J.J. McCarthy.
Footballguys view: This will be Brosmer's second NFL start. He was thrown into the starting role on November 30 when the Vikings lost 26-0 at Seattle. Brosmer struggled mightily, completing 19-of-30 passes for 126 yards, no touchdowns, and four interceptions. Brosmer played the entire second half against the Giants after McCarthy was injured, and threw just nine passes, completing seven of them for 52 yards. He didn't throw a touchdown, nor was he intercepted. He was sacked once. His presence in the starting lineup further diminishes the value of Minnesota's receiving assets, including Justin Jefferson.
Minnesota Vikings QB J.J. McCarthy (hand) will miss Week 17 against the Detroit Lions, according to head coach Kevin O'Connell. McCarthy has a small fracture in his throwing hand.
Footballguys view: O'Connell said the injury shouldn't require surgery. McCarthy suffered an injury to his right hand during Minnesota's win over the Giants on Sunday. Details about the injury have been murky, but he appeared to hurt himself when his hand struck a Giants defender's helmet during the follow-through of a pass attempt two plays before he scrambled for a 12-yard rushing touchdown. Without McCarthy, the Vikings will give undrafted rookie Max Brosmer his second start of the season, which doesn't bode well for the team's receiving assets for Sunday's game.

TE Gavin Bartholomew (back), RB Ty Chandler (knee) and LB Austin Keys (ankle) fully participated in practice. The Vikings did not hold a practice Monday, so the report is an estimation.

Minnesota Vikings QB J.J. McCarthy (hand) will have an MRI on his right hand Monday, Dec. 22. X-rays were negative.
Footballguys view: While the results of the X-rays were good, Minneapolis Star Tribune staffer Ben Goessling reports that further tests will be used to determine whether the quarterback suffered any ligament damage. Coach Kevin O'Connell said after the game he was unsure if McCarthy was able to grip the ball on the strip sack that ended his day. The Vikings play on Thursday this week, so the short turnaround will be a factor here. Max Brosmer is standing by.
