Saints | Jordyn Tyson hamstring issue could linger    Fri Aug 14, 03:29 PM

New Orleans Saints WR Jordyn Tyson (hamstring) will miss time, and the injury could linger into the season, according to head coach Kellen Moore.

Footballguys view: That Moore is allowing for the possibility of this injury keeping Tyson out four weeks - the amount of time until Week 1 - is discouraging. Hopefully the team is just being extra cautious with Tyson because of how long it took for to recover from his last right hamstring injury. Moore said this injury is not a recurrence of the previous injury, but that is small solace. Devaughn Vele and Juwan Johnson would pick up the slack in the passing game for any time that Tyson misses.

Saints | Spencer Rattler to start for New Orleans    Thu Aug 13, 01:30 PM

New Orleans Saints QB Spencer Rattler will start the team's preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Saturday, Aug. 15, according to head coach Kellen Moore.

Footballguys view: The Saints have Tyler Shough as their starter, and he's played good football for them. Rattler was once thought of as a potential starter, but now it seems like he'll settle in as a backup in the pros.

Saints | Jordyn Tyson leaves practice    Thu Aug 13, 01:27 PM

New Orleans Saints WR Jordyn Tyson left practice with an apparent leg injury and did not return on Thursday, Aug. 13.

Footballguys view: Reports are indicating this is a hamstring injury, but it's said to be not serious. That sounds great, but we're also dealing with a rookie receiver that has been limited by a hamstring injury since the NFL Scouting Combine. Tyson has incredible upside in the pros, but his rookie season may not get off to a hot start if he can't shake this hamstring issue.

Saints | Devin Neal exits early    Fri Aug 7, 01:40 PM

New Orleans Saints RB Devin Neal (hamstring) did not finish practice Thursday, Aug. 6.

Footballguys view: With Alvin Kamara's services secured for another season, the Saints have a surplus of running backs behind him and free agent signing Travis Etienne. Neal didn't look out of place on an NFL field after Kamara went down last year before his season ended with a hamstring injury. It's not clear yet whether this is the same hamstring that caused a problem last year, but if it is, Neal could be an injured reserve candidate because the team also has Kendre Miller coming back from ACL surgery (but currently sidelined with a back issue), and Audric Estime, a 2024 Broncos fifth round pick who was a pleasant surprise after Neal went down last year.

New Orleans Saints DT Bryan Bresee (knee) is scheduled to undergo season-ending surgery on his torn anterior cruciate ligament, according to head coach Kellen Moore.

Footballguys view: The Saints have enough depth on the defensive line to absorb this blow, but the 2023 first round pick was expected to play his best football yet going into his fourth season. With a trip to Detroit on tap to open the season, the Saints defense will see just how much they will miss Bresee right away.

Saints | Four-year extension for Chris Olave    Thu Jul 30, 05:05 PM

New Orleans Saints WR Chris Olave agreed to terms on a four-year contract extension with the Saints Thursday, July 30, worth as much as $132 million.

Footballguys view: Olave now ranks no.6 in the NFL (tied with DK Metcalf) for an AAV of $33 million, and the contract includes $90 million in guaranteed money. He had been held out of team drills early in camp because of this contract situation, and the Saints got it done. Expect Olave to post borderline WR1 numbers this year. He's got a current ADP of WR13 (3.04) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Saints | Taysom Hill will not be returning    Thu Jul 30, 02:14 PM

Free-agent TE Taysom Hill (Saints) is still deciding if he will continue his playing career but indicated he will not be re-signing with the New Orleans Saints if he plays in 2026.

Footballguys view: Hill spent nine years with the Saints as a TE/QB/Swiss Army knife player. He may not have many suitors based on his age and declining skill set. However, Broncos HC Sean Payton used Hill in a variety of ways. Hill turns 36 in August, but he could be a versatile reserve tight end and quarterback for the Broncos. Stay tuned.

Saints | Chris Olave limited Wednesday    Thu Jul 30, 10:39 AM

New Orleans Saints WR Chris Olave only participated in position drills during practice Wednesday, July 29, because of his contract situation, according to head coach Kellen Moore.

Footballguys view: Health is not an issue for Olave, even though he missed time this offseason due to being on blood thinners to treat a blood clot (lung) found at the end of the 2025 season. Saints GM Mickey Loomis did say this week that Olave is "full go" at the start of training camp. We'll see now if Loomis get Olave a new contract that makes him one of the highest-paid receivers in the NFL.

Saints | Bryan Bresee feared to have torn ACL    Wed Jul 29, 01:51 PM

New Orleans Saints DL Bryan Bresee is feared to have suffered a torn ACL at practice on Wednesday, July 29.

Footballguys view: Bresee was a 2023 first-round pick in New Orleans, and he started all 15 games he played during the 2025 season. He has 86 tackles, 19 tackles for loss, 14.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles in 49 career games for the team. The Saints exercised Bresee's fifth-year option this offseason, so he is under contract for next season.

Saints | Chris Olave in talks for extension    Wed Jul 29, 12:47 AM

Updating a previous report, New Orleans Saints WR Chris Olave is having 'a lot of discussions' about a new contract, according to a Tuesday, July 28 report. Olave is playing in the last season of his rookie contract.

Footballguys view: On the field, Olave (blood clot) is now "full go" and has no restrictions, as he's been limited this offseason and has been expected to get off blood thinners before camp. Whether he gets a new deal or plays out the current contract, Olave is a solid fantasy prospect with a WR12 ADP.

Saints | Jordyn Tyson to practice Wednesday    Wed Jul 29, 12:30 AM

New Orleans Saints WR Jordyn Tyson is set to practice with the team on Wednesday, according to a report on Tuesday, July 27. 'I think we'll see him play football tomorrow,' New Orleans coach Kellen Moore said.

Footballguys view: The team's first-round draft pick (No. 8 overall) didn't do much on-field practice work after the first day of rookie minicamp as the team sought to manage the recurrence of a hamstring injury he suffered before he was drafted. Expect the Saints to be cautious, with Tyson ramping up to being able to fully participate in practice.

Saints | Chris Olave has no restrictions and is 'full go'    Tue Jul 28, 04:20 PM

New Orleans Saints WR Chris Olave (blood clot) is now 'full go' and 'has no restrictions' as he's been limited this offseason and has been expected to get off blood thinners before camp, according to a source on Tuesday, July 28.

Footballguys view: Olave missed Week 18 because of a blood clot in his lung, and the team limited his work during the spring in order to continue monitoring the situation. On Tuesday, GM Mickey Loomis said that Olave has been given the green light to do everything during this summer's practices. Olave's three-game stretch to finish the season was impressive. He was WR2 from Weeks 15 through 17. He's being drafted as WR12.

Saints | NO, Chris Olave still talking deal    Sat Jul 25, 03:17 PM

New Orleans Saints WR Chris Olave is still talking with the Saints about a possible contract extension, but his practice participation is not expected to affected by the contract talks, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Olave is set to play the 2026 season on his fifth-year option, but there could be a new extension done before the start of the regular season. He's gained some muscle this offseason, and reports indicate he's looked 'great' in limited work. Olave and the Saints have been talking for some time, and there was hope a deal could get done before the start of camp. They're still talking, but we have to see if any movement comes from these most recent conversations.

Saints | Alvin Kamara agreed to new deal    Thu Jul 16, 10:47 AM

New Orleans Saints RB Alvin Kamara agreed to a new deal Thursday, July 16, that includes a $6 million base salary and could be worth $8.5 million in incentives.

Footballguys view: As Profootballtalk.com notes, Kamara's previous contract had him slated to count $10.45 million against the salary cap in 2026. Kamara, 30, has spent his entire career with New Orleans since the club selected him in the third round of the 2017 draft. Last season, Kamara totaled 657 yards from scrimmage, finishing 2025 with 471 yards rushing with one touchdown, along with 33 receptions for 186 yards. The Saints added Travis Etienne at running back in free agency this offseason, which could diminish Kamara's role in the offense. But the veteran is now set to begin his 10th season with New Orleans on a new deal.

Saints | Tyler Shough working out with teammates    Thu Jul 16, 12:34 AM

New Orleans Saints QB Tyler Shough is working out with several of his offensive teammates this week in San Diego.

Footballguys view: Shough organized the outing with some help from Drew Brees. Shough's teammates, Juwan Johnson, Chris Olave, Travis Etienne Jr., Bryce Lance, Barion Brown, Audric Estime, and Noah Fant, were among those in attendance -- along with Brees. In his rookie season, Shough, a second-round pick, went 5-4 as a starter and completed 67.6 percent of his passes for 2,384 yards with 10 touchdowns and six interceptions. From Weeks 15 through 17 -- fantasy playoffs for most of us -- he was QB8, averaging 19 points per game. He's being drafted as QB19 this year.

Saints | Alvin Kamara working on new deal    Wed Jul 15, 04:17 PM

New Orleans Saints RB Alvin Kamara is working with the Saints to agree on a new contract.

Footballguys view: Kamara has been very blunt about his desire to remain a Saint. When trade rumors started swirling around the deadline last year, Kamara joked publicly by saying, "Then I'm going to go drink a piƱa colada somewhere," alluding to a retirement. The Saints spent big on Travis Etienne Jr. in free agency this offseason, and he's expected to be the lead back. Kamara is entering his age-31 season, but still looked like he had some juice in the tank last year before injuries ended his season. At worst, Kamara could have some stand-alone value as a pass-catching specialist. At best, his contingent upside in the event of an Etienne injury could make him one of this year's best picks. He's currently being drafted as the RB49, a very cheap cost for a former superstar approaching the twilight of his career.

Saints | Erik McCoy looking to stay healthy    Sun Jul 12, 01:56 PM

New Orleans Saints C Erik McCoy has missed 20 games across the past two seasons due to various injuries. 'S--- happens,' McCoy said. He has missed 10 games in each of the past two seasons, dealing with groin and elbow injuries in 2024, and a torn biceps in 2025. He played all 17 games in 2023, and he was a Pro Bowl pick. He is penciled in to start at center again in 2026, and he hopes to stay healthy to be part of one of the better offensive lines the team has had in years, according to beat writer Luke Johnson.

Saints | Tyler Shough designated as an x-factor    Fri Jul 10, 02:10 PM

New Orleans Saints QB Tyler Shough was labeled as an x-factor for the 2026 season by ESPN's Seth Walder.

Footballguys view: Rookie quarterbacks can often surprise before the league gets an offseason to analyze and reset. Shough certainly surprised in Year 1. And the Saints trusted him enough to sign Travis Etienne and draft Jordyn Tyson and Oscar Delp. They are surrounding him with playmakers to see how he develops. The Saints' success will hinge on his ability to adapt to new coverages in Year 2, making him the most important factor going into the season.

Saints | Jordyn Tyson pairs well with Tyler Shough    Thu Jul 2, 03:21 PM

New Orleans Saints WR Jordyn Tyson pairs well with QB Tyler Shough based on his route-running ability, according to NewOrleansFootball.com's Nick Underhill.

Footballguys view: Investing the eighth overall pick in Tyson, the Saints clearly liked the Arizona State product. He'll have a nice go early in his career, playing opposite Chris Olave. Olave should draw primary coverage, allowing Tyson to get open easier. Falling into the ninth round of fantasy drafts, Tyson could easily outperform his current cost.

Saints | Chris Olave hopes for new deal soon    Wed Jun 24, 01:37 PM

New Orleans Saints WR Chris Olave said he would like to agree to a contract extension before the start of training camp, according to ESPN.com's Katherine Terrell.

Footballguys view: The Saints have been in talks with Olave since last year about a new deal, and while nothing has happened yet, both sides have spoken positively of the situation. Olave has been at OTAs and minicamp as usual, and he spent the offseason around the Saints' facility. Terrell noted that New Orleans typically gets its bigger deals done closer to the season, and Olave seemed optimistic during OTAs that they could get a new deal completed soon.

Saints | Rookie WR Bryce Lance makes the most of his opportunities    Tue Jun 23, 12:58 PM

Saints fourth-round pick Bryce Lance got his time to shine during minicamp with Chris Olave and Jordyn Tyson limited and a number of other wideouts hurt. Lance made it count during the 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 periods, working with both the first- and second-team quarterbacks. He scored a touchdown in 11-on-11 red zone work on a pass from Spencer Rattler on the final day of minicamp and also had a touchdown from Tyler Shough in 7-on-7s that day.

Footballguys view: ESPN.com's Katherine Terrell acknowledges Lance might not get as many reps when the other receivers get healthy, but he has potential. Footballguy Jeff Bell believes Lance could push Devaughn Vele to be the third receiver, though the two have different skillsets, with Vele a better blocker and Lance opening defenses with vertical speed. Even in a potentially limited opening role, Lance merits attention. His top-level athleticism could make him the clear fill-in if Olave or Tyson were to miss time. Bell added that there is underrated long-term value here if Lance's play and Olave's contract demands diverge.

Saints | Coach not ruling out Taysom Hill return    Fri Jun 19, 01:45 PM

Free-agent QB Taysom Hill (Saints) has not had much contact with the New Orleans Saints this offseason, but head coach Kellen Moore is not ruling out the possibility of Hill re-signing at some point.

Footballguys view: The odds are somewhat shaky that Hill finds an NFL team before the start of the regular season. Whether that's with the Saints or another team (Broncos?) has yet to be determined. It sounds like Moore is open to the idea of bringing the versatile TE/QB back to the roster.
