Patriots | Robert Spillane unable to return Sun Jan 25, 07:41 PM
Updating a previous report, New England Patriots LB Robert Spillane (ankle) did not return to the AFC Championship game because of his ankle injury.
Link to storyNew England Patriots QB Drake Maye went 10-for-21 for 86 yards, zero touchdowns and zero interceptions against the Denver Broncos in the AFC Championship game. Maye also rushed for 65 yards and one touchdown on 10 carries. RB Rhamondre Stevenson rushed for 71 yards on 25 carries, while RB TreVeyon Henderson rushed for five yards on three carries. WR Mack Hollins caught two passes for 51 yards on two targets, WR Stefon Diggs caught five passes for 17 yards on six targets, TE Hunter Henry caught two passes for 12 yards on three targets and WR Kayshon Boutte caught one pass for six yards on six targets.
Footballguys view: The Broncos defense was up to the task, as the only touchdown they allowed was off of a Jarrett Stidham turnover deep in his own territory. Drake Maye was more dangerous as a runner than a passer, and the Broncos shut down the predictable Patriots running game. The Patriots still advanced thanks to their defense and a second half field goal drive that broke a 7-7 tie. New England will have two weeks to prepare as a Super Bowl underdog after pulling off a stunning turnaround under first year head coach Mike Vrabel.

New England Patriots LB Christian Elliss is expected to face his brother, Denver Broncos LB Jonah Elliss, in the AFC Championship Game. 'We're excited. It's a huge blessing to our family. One of us is going to the Super Bowl one way or another, so we're excited,' Christian said. 'For me, there's a little bit of smack talking. We'll have a little side bet and the loser will be reminded forever.'
Link to storyNew England Patriots DT Joshua Farmer (hamstring) and RB Terrell Jennings (head) have been ruled out for the AFC Championship Game against the Denver Broncos, and neither player traveled. Both players were previously listed as questionable.
Link to storyNew England Patriots RB D'Ernest Johnson and DE Leonard Taylor III were elevated from the practice squad to the active roster Saturday, Jan. 24 ahead of the AFC Championship Game against the Denver Broncos. DT Eric Gregory (undisclosed) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list, too.

New England Patriots WR Mack Hollins (abdomen) was activated from the Reserve/Injured list on Saturday, Jan. 24, ahead of the AFC Championship Game against the Denver Broncos.
Footballguys view: Hollins was one of the Patriots' top receivers during the regular season. He was third on the team in receptions (46), adding two receiving touchdowns. Hollins' blocking ability has also been key to the Patriots' success on offense this season. As the Boston Globe noted, with his 6-4 frame, Hollins has allowed the Patriots to play with advantageous personnel packages on run downs. While the Patriots haven't necessarily needed Hollins so far in the playoffs, his return is certainly welcomed news, as Drake Maye hasn't been as prolific throwing the ball this postseason.

LB Marte Mapu (hip) was limited during practice and is listed as questionable. New England Patriots TE Hunter Henry (knee) fully participated in practice Friday, Jan. 23, and is not on the injury report for the AFC Championship game.
Footballguys view: Henry opened up the week with back-to-back limited practices, so full participation on Friday is good to see. Henry has been very boom-or-bust this season. Last week, he had just one catch for five yards. But his multi-touchdown upside in any matchup always makes him an intriguing play.

New England Patriots RB TreVeyon Henderson (shoulder) fully participated in practice Friday, Jan. 23, and is not on the injury report for the AFC Championship game.
Footballguys view: Henderson has been on the injury report all week, but it hasn't stopped him from practicing in full every day. The Patriots chose to lean a bit heavier on Rhamondre Stevenson in their first playoff game. Henderson is a big-play threat every time he touches the ball, but the coaching staff might have more faith in the veteran in these big games.
New England Patriots WR Mack Hollins (abdomen) fully participated in practice Friday, Jan. 23, but is listed as questionable for the AFC Championship game.
Footballguys view: Hollins hasn't played since Week 16. When active, he's been a reliable deep threat and a team leader. The Patriots get the benefit of playing against a Broncos team without Bo Nix, but the home-field advantage and stout defense can still pose a challenge. If Hollins can return this week, he'll be welcomed back to a receiver room that could use the extra firepower.

New England Patriots RB TreVeyon Henderson (shoulder) fully participated in practice Thursday, Jan. 22.
Footballguys view: Henderson can be a problem for the Broncos on Sunday. The rookie back can make a big play happen any time he touches the ball. Even splitting touches with Rhamondre Stevenson, Henderson could be a factor.
New England Patriots WR Mack Hollins (abdomen) was limited during practice Thursday, Jan. 22.
Footballguys view: Let's see if Hollins can get out there on Sunday against the Broncos. He's coming back from IR with this abdomen injury and not a lock to play. If he does play, Hollins will block (his forte) and be a deep threat for the Pats.

New England Patriots TE Hunter Henry (non-injury) was limited during practice Thursday, Jan. 22.
Footballguys view: Henry is a seasoned veteran getting some rest. He's good for the AFC Championship Game against the Broncos, and with their weakness covering tight ends he could have a big game.

Footballguys view: The Broncos struggled to slow down James Cook in the Divisional Round. They'll have their hands full with Henderson and Rhamondre Stevenson in the AFC Championship on Sunday.
New England Patriots TE Hunter Henry (non-injury) was limited during practice Wednesday, Jan. 21.
Footballguys view: Historically, the Broncos struggle to cover tight ends and Henry is one of the best. Expect QB Drake Maye to target him early and often against the Broncos in the AFC Championship on Sunday.

Link to storyNew England Patriots WR Mack Hollins (abdomen) will not return to practice on Wednesday, Jan. 21, according to head coach Mike Vrabel.
Footballguys view: Hollins landed on IR in late December with this injury. Vrabel said "I can't be certain" when asked if Hollins would be able to play in the AFC Championship Game. Without Hollins, the team will turn to Kayshon Boutte as their downfield threat.

New England Patriots WR Mack Hollins' (abdomen) availability for the AFC Championship game is uncertain at this point, according to head coach Mike Vrabel. Hollins is currently on the Reserve/Injured list.
Footballguys view: Hollins is eligible to come off injured reserve this week after being placed on the list in late December. Hollins was a key offensive factor for New England in 2025, catching 46 passes for 550 yards with two touchdowns in 15 games. He was third on the team in receptions behind Stefon Diggs and Hunter Henry and fourth in receiving yards behind Diggs, Henry, and Kayshon Boutte. New England's first injury report of the week will be released on Wednesday.

Link to storyNew England Patriots CB Christian Gonzalez was targeted in coverage 16 times in the AFC Divisional Round game against the Houston Texans, the most targets any defender has faced in a regular or postseason game this season. He allowed seven receptions for 58 yards, an average of just 3.6 yards per target.

New England Patriots QB Drake Maye completed 16-of-27 passes for 179 yards, three touchdowns and an interception in the AFC Divisional Round playoff game against the Houston Texans, advancing to face the Denver Broncos on the road in the AFC Championship Game Sunday, Jan. 25. RB Rhamondre Stevenson (eye) returned to finish with 16 carries and 70 yards, while adding four receptions for 11 yards on four targets. Rookie RB TreVeyon Henderson had 12 runs for 25 yards, while adding a catch for minus-2 yards on two targets. WR Kayshon Boutte hauled in three receptions for a game-high 75 yards and a TD on five targets, with WR Stefon Diggs posted four receptions, 40 yards and a TD on a team-best six targets. WR DeMario Douglas also had two catches for 36 yards and a score, with TE Austin Hooper posting a 14-yard grab on two targets, TE Hunter Henry posting a 5-yard catch on two targets and CB Christian Gonzalez leading the team with nine total stops and six solo tackles with a pass defensed. CB Marcus Jones had two stops with two passes defensed and a 26-yard interception for touchdown.
Footballguys view: Like the other teams remaining in these playoffs, the Patriots have their own flaws but have overcome them in resounding fashion through two playoff games by turning up the intensity defensively and riding the wave of excitement at home. They're now one game from returning to the Super Bowl -- Sunday's AFC Championship Game at the Bo Nix-less Denver Broncos -- a reality that would have been inconceivable just one year ago.

Footballguys view: Back-to-back full practices for Henry signal that he should play Sunday without any limitations. Henry has displayed a strong connection with Drake Maye near the end zone this year, keeping him in consideration as one of the week's top tight ends.

New England Patriots CB Christian Gonzalez (concussion) is going through the concussion protocol, according to head coach Mike Vrabel.
Footballguys view: Gonzalez sustained the injury during the fourth quarter of Sunday night's 16-3 wild-card win over the Los Angeles Chargers and did not return to the game. The Patriots will host the winner of Monday night's game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Houston Texans at home on Sunday. Gonzalez will have to make it through the five-step protocol to play.

Drake Maye completed 17 of 29 passes for 268 yards, with one touchdown and one interception in a 16-3 win over the Chargers in the wild card game Sunday night. He also ran for 66 yards on 10 carries and lost a fumble. Rhamondre Stevenson ran the ball 10 times for 66 yards and added 75 yards on three receptions. Kayshon Boutte had four catches for 66 yards and Hunter Henry had three catches for 64 yards and a touchdown. TreVeyon Henderson carried the ball nine times for 27 yards and had one catch for nine yards. Stefon Diggs had two catches for 16 yards.
Footballguys view: The Chargers defense did not roll over, as the Patriots didn't score a touchdown until well into the second half. Drake Maye turned the ball over twice, which kept the Chargers in the game along with holding New England to three field goals. Maye created most of the Patriots offense, with Stevenson the much more effective back than the second round rookie TreVeyon Henderon, who didn't have any impact plays on the night. Hunter Henry had the only touchdown on a perfect ball from Maye just past the outstretched fingers of Derwin James, and Kayshon Boutte was a bigger factor than Stefon Diggs. The Patriots will have another tough defense up next week whether the Steelers or Texans win on Monday night.
