Titans | Tennessee makes change to practice squad Mon Sep 15, 04:53 PM
Free-agent TE Joel Wilson (Bears) was signed to the Tennessee Titans practice squad Monday, Sept. 15. The team also released TE Drake Dabney from the practice squad.
Link to storyTennessee Titans DT Jeffery Simmons agreed to a revised contract Monday, Sept. 15, that includes a $632,529 raise for the 2025 season.
Footballguys view: As SI.com noted, ever since he was drafted in 2019, Simmons has been one of the best defensive tackles in football. He's a two-time Second-Team All-Pro and a three-time Pro Bowler. He has four consecutive seasons of 5-plus sacks, and already has a sack in 2025. In fact, through two games, Simmons has been one of the Titans' best pass rushers. He's been credited with 10 pressures, five QB hits, four hurries, and the sack. He's on pace for 85 pressures, which would blow his career-high of 66 out of the water. Keeping him happy makes sense. |

Tennessee Titans WR Chimere Dike had two receptions for minus-1 yard on five targets while running twice for nine yards in Week 2 against the Los Angeles Rams. He added a five kickoff returns for 83 yards, while posting 37 yards on a pair of punt returns, too.
Link to storyTennessee Titans RB Tony Pollard ran 20 times for a game-high 92 yards in Week 2 against the Los Angeles Rams, and he did not have a catch on just one target.
Footballguys view: Pollard should continue to get a heavy workload while Tyjae Spears is on injured reserve, which will be for at least two more weeks. The Titans defense had some lapses against the Rams outstanding wide receiver duo this week, but it is generally good enough to keep them in games while Cam Ward learns the ropes, insuring that Pollard will remain involved in the game throughout. |

Link to storyTennessee Titans OT JC Latham (hip) and DL T'Vondre Sweat (ankle) did not practice all week and have been ruled out for Week 2 against the Los Angeles Rams. RB Kalel Mullings (ankle) and S Kevin Winston Jr. (hamstring) were limited in practice on Friday, Sept. 12, and listed as doubtful. CB L'Jarius Sneed (knee) was limited in practice on Friday but no longer appears on the injury report. S Quandre Diggs (hand) and LB Arden Key (pectoral) practiced in full on Friday and no longer appear on the injury report.
Footballguys view: The Rams catch a small, or actually rather large break with the 360+ pound Sweat out against an offensive line that has two banged up guards. Latham will be missed on the Titans offensive line - expect the Rams edge rush to attack his replacement. |

Tennessee Titans QB Cam Ward completed 12-of-28 passes for 112 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions in Week 1 against the Denver Broncos, and he did not have a rushing attempt while losing one fumble.
Footballguys view: According to ESPN.com's Turron Davenport, Ward showed veteran-like pocket calmness as he maneuvered the pocket for all but two plays, where he was sacked consecutive times, knocking Tennessee out of field goal range. Davenport added the rookie has to learn to get the ball out sooner at times, even when he's throwing it away. Despite completing less than half of his attempts, Ward made some "wow" throws, especially on a couple of deep out-breaking passes to Gunnar Helm. He'll look to continue improving against the Rams in Week 2. |

Link to storyTennessee Titans TE Gunnar Helm's toughness and hands have earned praise from the coaching staff, and ESPN's Matt Miller believes Helm could become the team's starting tight end this season.
Footballguys view: Chig Okonkwo finished last year strong and was in with the starters a lot earlier in the preseason, but the trend here favors the rookie Helm. Okonkwo doesn't add much as a blocker and Helm has been dependable for fellow rookie QB Cam Ward. |
Tennessee Titans OT JC Latham (undisclosed) did not participate in practice this week, but head coach Brian Callahan is optimistic about Latham's availability for Week 1.
Footballguys view: The only detail we got from Callahan about the nature of Latham's absence was "general soreness". Callahan doesn't seem worried about it, so we're not worried about that in particular. We are generally worried, however, about Cam Ward facing the Broncos defense to open his NFL career, and if Latham ends up not ready to play, we will only be more worried. Don't be surprised if it's a long afternoon for the Tennessee offense. |
