Link to storyFormer Miami Dolphins and New York Jets head coach Adam Gase reportedly agreed to terms on a contract to join the Los Angeles Chargers as a passing game specialist on Monday, Feb. 9.
Footballguys view: The 47-year-old Gase hasn't been a coach at any level since he was head coach of the Jets in 2019 and 2020. Before that, he was head coach of the Dolphins from 2016 to 2018, and before that, he was an offensive coordinator for the Bears and Broncos. As Profootballtalk.com noted, Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh has shaken up the offensive coaching staff by firing coordinator Greg Roman and hiring Mike McDaniel to replace him. And now the Chargers have added a second former Dolphins head coach to their offensive staff.
Updating a previous report, former Miami Dolphins and New York Jets head coach Adam Gase will be in Southern California early next week to speak with the Los Angeles Chargers about being their pass-game coordinator, and there is a strong possibility he is hired, according to a source. He has been out of the NFL since 2021.

Former Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel was hired by the Los Angeles Chargers Monday, Jan. 26, as offensive coordinator.
Footballguys view: This deal was reported last week, but with Daniel still pursuing head coaching jobs, it wasn't made official until today. It comes after the Chargers' offense under former coordinator Greg Roman had scored one touchdown in two combined playoff losses and finished 20th in points in 2025. L.A. was looking to freshen things up a bit. According to Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer, head coach Jim Harbaugh wanted to marry elements of the Shanahan offense to the rugged, physical identity his teams have always had. No one better than McDaniel to help him pull that off.
Los Angeles Chargers OT Mekhi Becton ranked as one of the worst guards in the league in 2025, and team can opt out of a second year of his deal. Sources at the Shrine Bowl indicated to beat writer Tony Pauline that the Chargers are expected to cut ties with the veteran.

Link to storyFree agent QB DJ Uiagalelei (Chargers), WR Dalevon Campbell (Panthers), WR Luke Grimm (Chargers), WR JaQuae Jackson (Chargers), RB Amar Johnson (Chargers), TE Tanner McLachlan (Chargers), and TE Thomas Yassmin (Chargers) to reserve/futures contracts on Tuesday, Jan. 13.
Link to storyLos Angeles Chargers offensive coordinator Greg Roman was fired on Tuesday, Jan. 13.
Footballguys view: Roman, 53, was hired in 2024 when Jim Harbaugh returned to coach the Chargers. Roman was previously Harbaugh's coordinator with San Francisco from 2011-2014. Los Angeles finished the season No. 12 in total yards and No. 20 in points scored. The club dealt with several injuries, particularly along the offensive line. But Los Angeles managed just 207 total yards in Sunday's 16-3 wild-card loss to the Patriots, which likely hastened this move. Los Angeles is likely to have two new coordinators in 2026, as defensive coordinator Jesse Minter is primed to land a head coaching job in this cycle.

The Chargers lost to the Patriots 16-3 in the wild card game Sunday night. Justin Herbert completed 19 of 31 passes for 159 yards and added 57 yards on 10 rushes. Herbert also lost one fumble. Kimani Vidal got most of the backfield work with 11 carries for 31 yards and two receptions for 20 yards. Omarion Hampton had only 1 carry for -1 yards and was clearly not 100%. Ladd McConkey led the receivers with three catches for 32 yards and Oronde Gadsden added three catches for 30 yards. Quentin Johnston and Keenan Allen also caught three balls each with Allen accounting for 25 yards and Johnston 20.
Footballguys view: The Chargers offense was just too limited without its starting tackles to make any kind of playoff run. Herbert wasn't able to sustain drives with any consistency. Things could be very different next season if Joe Alt and Rashawn Slater can stay healthy. Keenan Allen was considered to be close to retiring before re-joining the Chargers this summer. We'll see if he calls it quits.
Los Angeles Chargers QB Justin Herbert completed 19 of his 31 passes for 159 yards, rushed 10 times for 57 yard and was sacked six times and lost a fumble in a 16-3 loss to the New England Patriots in the Wild Card game. RB Omarion Hampton attempted to play through an ankle injury but lost a yard on his only carry, and RB Kimani Vidal rushed 11 times for 31 yards and caught two passes for 20 yards. WR Ladd McConkey had three grabs for a team-high 32 yards, and TE Oronde Gadsden II chipped in three catches for 20 yards. WR Keenan Allen finished with three catches for 25 yards on a team-high eight targets, and Quentin Johnston hauled in three passes for 20 yards. LB Daiyan Henley logged a game-high 13 tackles, including nine solo stops, and added an interception, and LB Odafe Oweh delivered four tackles and three sacks. DT Teair Tart piled up four tackles, including two tackles for loss, a sack and a pass defensed.

Link to storyLos Angeles Chargers TE Tucker Fisk (ankle) was activated from the Reserve/Injured list Saturday, Jan. 10. The team also placed WR KeAndre Lambert-Smith (hamstring) on the Reserve/Injured list.
Link to storyLos Angeles Chargers RB Omarion Hampton (ankle) said that he expects to play in the Wild Card game versus the New England Patriots Sunday, Jan. 11.
Footballguys view: Hampton was able to practice on Friday wearing a brace. He's the best back, but the rookie is not 100 percent healthy. Expect the Chargers to use Hampton as the lead back, but Kimani Vidal should get plenty of work as well.
