San Francisco 49ers WR Deebo Samuel (ribs) injured his ribs against the New York Giants in Week 3. Tests revealed no breaks, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan, and Shanahan said Samuel is 'pretty sore' and considered day-to-day.
Footballguys view: Samuel plays with little regard for his personal safety. He was extending plays by blasting through the Giants' defense on Thursday night. Now a bit banged up, Samuel has over a week to get ready for the 49ers' next game. They are at home to take on the Cardinals in Week 4. We'll know more about Samuel's status next week. |

San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan signed multi-year contract extensions with the 49ers Friday, Sept. 22. Terms of the extensions were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: The 49ers are set with Shanahan and Lynch running the show. They've been extremely competitive over the years once Shanahan and Lynch got their players in place. Shanahan has been able to craft an offense that can put up points and move the ball even though the team has gone through many quarterbacks to get there. So long as Shanahan is coaching and Lynch is putting the roster together, the 49ers should be perennial playoff teams with the ability to push for Super Bowls. |

Link to storySan Francisco 49ers TE George Kittle had seven catches (on nine targets) for 90 yards against the New York Giants on Thursday, Sept. 21.
Footballguys view: Kittle has put his preseason adductor injury behind him and took advantage of the absence of Brandon Aiyuk to post his first big stat line of the year. This should help take the guesswork out of whether to play Kittle in Week 4 vs. Arizona even if Aiyuk is back. |

San Francisco 49ers WR Deebo Samuel caught six passes for 129 yards and a touchdown in a win over the New York Giants on Thursday, Sept. 21. He was targeted 12 times. Samuel also ran once for two yards.
Footballguys view: All it took was Brandon Aiyuk sitting for Samuel to remind us that he is still a prime fantasy performer who will pay off on the third round pick it took to land him in drafts this summer. Aiyuk should be able to play against the Cardinals next week, but Samuel should obviously be in lineups. |

San Francisco 49ers RB Elijah Mitchell had 11 carries for 42 yards against the New York Giants in Week 3. He also caught three passes for two yards.

San Francisco 49ers RB Christian McCaffrey ran the ball 18 times for 85 yards and a touchdown against the New York Giants in Week 3. He added five receptions (on five targets) for 34 yards.
Footballguys view: McCaffrey was still an elite fantasy performer even though the 49ers smartly gave Elijah Mitchell 11 carries so as not to overwork McCaffrey on a short week of rest. If we were drafting today, McCaffrey would be the #1 pick in many drafts. |

San Francisco 49ers QB Brock Purdy completed 25 of his 37 passes for a career-best 310 yards, 2 TDs, and 0 INTs in an 18-point win over the New York Giants on Thursday, Sept. 21.
Footballguys view: The Giants blitzed Purdy over 80% of the time and Purdy made Wink Martindale's defense pay for their overaggressiveness, doing most of his damage on those snaps. This was his best fantasy game of the season. We might be saying that about a lot of fantasy quarterbacks when they face the Giants defense this year. Geno Smith gets them next and Purdy faces Arizona. |
Free-agent CB Xavier Crawford (Seahawks), free-agent DB Kendall Sheffield (Texans) and free-agent CB Jason Verrett (49ers) worked out for the San Francisco 49ers Thursday, Sept. 21.

San Francisco 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk (shoulder) was limited during practice Wednesday, Sept. 20, and is listed as questionable for Week 3.
Footballguys view: The 49ers play on Thursday night against the Giants in Week 3. This is an AC sprain (most likely) and is not considered serious. However, this injury might keep him out of action in Week 3. Have other options at the ready if Aiyuk is a late scratch before the Thursday night game. |
