Updating a previous report, San Francisco 49ers QB Mac Jones will start Week 9's game versus the New York Giants.
Footballguys view: According to 49ers HC Kyle Shanahan, Brock Purdy could be available in Week 9 if need be. That means Purdy might be back next week. For the meantime, Jones gets another start as the 49ers look to bounce back after losing to the Texans in Week 8. Jones is a QB2 with upside for Fantasy GMs out there.

Footballguys view: Purdy could be available if the team needs him in Week 9. That means he's close to a return, but we'd be a bit ahead of ourselves to say Purdy will be ready to start in Week 10. Mac Jones is starting against the Giants.

San Francisco 49ers WR Jauan Jennings (ankle, rib, shoulder) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Oct. 29.
Footballguys view: Jennings is the no1 receiver for the 49ers with so many injuries at the position. We'll see if it's Mac Jones or Brock Purdy under center in Week 9 against the Giants later in the week.

San Francisco 49ers QB Brock Purdy (toe) was limited during practice Wednesday, Oct. 29.
Footballguys view: Purdy may be back this week against the Giants. He's limited on Wednesday, so we need to see him get more involved during the week. Mac Jones is ready to start again if Purdy has to miss more time.

San Francisco 49ers QB Brock Purdy (toe) is not considered a long shot to play in Week 9, but the team will see how he feels Wednesday, Oct. 29, and if he can take part in practice, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan.
Footballguys view: Purdy has been sidelined by a toe injury, but took part in practice on a limited basis every day last week before being ruled out. Shanahan said he'll have a better idea about the quarterback's outlook when the team is back at work in a couple of days. "I don't think it's a long shot, but I know he is doing better and we'll see how he's doing Wednesday," Shanahan said. Mac Jones has been starting in Purdy's place, and Shanahan called him day-to-day with a bruised knee. Stay tuned.
San Francisco 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk (knee) will not have his 21-day practice window opened this week, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan.
Footballguys view: Aiyuk has not practiced with his 49ers teammates since sustaining tears to his ACL and MCL on Oct. 20, 2024, against the Chiefs. He underwent surgery in mid-November and was placed on the physically unable to perform list when the 49ers reported to training camp this summer. While GM John Lynch suggested Aiyuk could practice this week, Shanahan updated us Monday. "I think it's week-to-week from here on out that he has got a chance," Shanahan said. "Just not this week." We'll continue to monitor.

Link to storySan Francisco 49ers WR Dee Winters (knee) suffered a knee injury during the Week 8 game and has been ruled out.
Footballguys view: The 49ers defense was already down its best two players. If Winters has to miss next week's game against the Giants, it will be an upgrade to the matchup for the New York offense. The 49ers defense did not force a punt until the fourth quarter against the Texans offense without Nico Collins.
San Francisco 49ers DT Jordan Elliott (undisclosed) left the Week 8 game against the Houston Texans in the second quarter due to an undisclosed injury. He is considered questionable to return.

Although it remains uncertain when San Francisco 49ers QB Brock Purdy (toe) will be able to resume playing, he is expected to get a decent number of reps in practice during the upcoming week, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
Footballguys view: This does not make us optimistic that Purdy will be able to start against the Giants next week. If you need a Week 9 bye quarterback, Mac Jones is more likely to be the 49ers starter.

San Francisco 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk (knee) has a chance to start practicing next week, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan.
Footballguys view: Shanahan did say the team is in the 'week-to-week' consideration for Aiyuk in regards to opening his 21-day practice window. Even when that happens, there's no telling when Aiyuk can be back in game action. In deeper leagues with bench space, feel free to add him and hold for a return that could happen....who knows when.
