Updating a previous report, Washington Commanders OT Laremy Tunsil (triceps) suffered a torn triceps during practice Saturday, Aug. 8, and is expected to miss at least a significant portion of the regular season, according to sources.
| Footballguys view: Tunsil is the best offensive lineman on the Commanders roster by a good margin. The team is installing a new offense, and now they will be adjusting to having a new left tackle. Swing tackle Andrew Wylie and backup left tackle/left guard Brandon Coleman will have a shot to start, but the team also signed three veteran offensive tackles, signaling an open mind to the places where they could find Tunsil's replacement. It is a lot more difficult today to see any Commanders overachieving in fantasy leagues than it was yesterday, and it wasn't easy yesterday. |

Free-agent OT Daniel Brunskill (Dolphins), OT Max Scharping (Steelers), and OT Nicholas Petit-Frere (49ers) were signed by the Washington Commanders, according to a source on Saturday, Aug. 8. The Commanders also released OG Tim McKay.
| Footballguys view: This is what happens when you find out you are losing your stud left tackle for a good part of the regular season. The Commanders will try to get by with backup left tackle Brandon Coleman (who was competing for a starting job at left guard) or swing tackle Andrew Wylie in place of Laremy Tunsil, who went down with a torn tricep, but they are open this group of veterans providing competition and at least giving them another option on the practice squad if the replacements already on the roster don't work out. |

Coleman had been competing with OG Chris Paul for the team's starting left guard job during training camp but has prior experience playing left tackle.

| Footballguys view: Tunsil is high on the list of players the Commanders can't afford to lose. Mike Garafolo and Brian Baldinger have both watched a lot of football over the years and believed the injury was a shoulder "stinger", which is a temporary nerve issue that shouldn't be a big deal unless it continues to recur during the season. We'll add this to our list of offensive line situations to monitor. |

| Footballguys view: We already know that Diggs is interested in playing with Jayden Daniels, and the Commanders certainly need an experienced #2 wide receiver target behind Terry McLaurin. Right now rookie third round pick Antonio Williams, former Titans first round pick Treylon Burks, Commanders recent mid-round draft picks Luke McCaffrey and Jaylin Lane, and Dyami Brown (who is back after a nondescript year in Jacksonville) are the current candidates for snaps and targets behind McLaurin. Landing in Washington is the best outcome for Diggs fantasy value, but the Commanders might not want to bring on a player who isn't known as a plus in the locker room. |

That doesn't mean they won't sign someone like Stefon Diggs off the street, but unless and until they do, Burks should benefit from increased opportunities in camp. As SBNation noted, this is a prove-it year for a 26-year-old who has flashed but never established himself as a steady threat. Injuries have been the biggest roadblock for a player who hasn't exceeded 444 receiving yards in a season. We'll be watching for more over the next month. |

He quickly established himself as one of the NFL's top kickoff returners in the first half, averaging almost 30 yards per return. As a receiver, McCaffrey only had 15 targets in nine games, but caught 11 passes for 203 yards and three touchdowns. He also averaged 18.5 yards per reception. While the Commanders are reportedly in the market for a WR2 -- Stefon Diggs has been mentioned -- it'll be interesting to see which current receivers, including McCaffrey, make a case in camp. |

But Stefon Diggs, the top candidate for the Commanders, could land with a new team before training camp. Another option is Patriots wide receiver Kayshon Boutte. He's reportedly available after New England's offseason additions of A.J. Brown and Romeo Doubs. |

Entering his 10th season in the league, Douglas has appeared in 135 games with 93 starts for the Eagles, Panthers, Packers, Bills, and Dolphins. He's also spent time with the Raiders, Texans, and Cardinals. In all, he's tallied 21 interceptions, 92 passes defensed, four forced fumbles, and 3.0 sacks. |

Washington Commanders QB Jayden Daniels, and embattled San Francisco 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk, apparently have had a beef on social media. Aiyuk wanted to play with his former Arizona State teammate, as he has had a very public contract dispute with his current team. It was thought he would eventually land in Washington, the only team to show any remote interest in him, but after Aiyuk insulted Daniels' mother, who is also his agent, that landing spot might no longer be in the cards. 'Enjoy retirement, pal,' Daniels posted on social media, tagging Aiyuk, before pulling it down later.
| Footballguys view: This recent Aiyuk saga has been impossible to predict at nearly every step. His near-daily social media posts about being a Commander drew some attention from Jayden Daniels, but the engagement quickly escalated into a public altercation. The 49ers still possess Aiyuk's contract and have been eerily quiet about him publicly. The speculation about him going to Washington seemed to be entirely pushed by Aiyuk himself. George Kittle recently said of Aiyuk, "I watched him run over 22 miles an hour and stop on a dime. So, he's still got it, or at least that was a year, eight months ago." Still just 28, the off-field issues are beginning to outweigh what upside he could bring to the field. Aiyuk and Daniels are reported to have unfollowed each other on social media, likely closing the door on a trade to the Commanders. |

He'll also need to show a rugged edge to get short yardage work over sixth round pick Kaytron Allen after the coaching staff preferred Chris Rodriguez to Croskey-Merritt by the end of the season. He's still one of the cheapest backs projected to lead his backfield in touches, and many of the best picks at running back come from the group that matches that description. |

| Footballguys view: The speculation about Aiyuk ending up with the Commanders has been out there for some time. It helps the situation when former 49ers executive, and current Commanders GM, Adam Peters knows Aiyuk so well. The Commanders have Terry McLaurin as their top receiver, but adding Aiyuk (if healthy and motivated) would give QB Jayden Daniels another dangerous receiving weapon. Let's see if the 49ers release him (when they release him we should say), and then we'll see if the Commanders have interest. |

| Footballguys view: While Washington's backfield is likely to be split between Croskey-Merritt and White, that's not chiseled in stone. Somebody could earn a more prominent role. If White is that player, it wouldn't be the first time. He operated as a feature for the Buccaneers in 2023 and delivered his best season as a pro, rushing for 990 yards and six touchdowns on 272 carries, with 64 catches for 549 receiving yards and three more scores en route to an RB4 finish. Still, current ADP has Croskey-Merritt (RB40) and White (RB39) priced as if it will be an even split. |
