Welcome to the dynasty trading post, where optimizing strategy, roster construction, format, and player value oscillations are examined weekly in example and completed dynasty trades.

Quarterbacks
Theme of the Week: Hunt Elite Options
Dynasty startup drafts are the most exploitable venue for trading for elite quarterbacks, moving up to the early first round to acquire their services at the outset of your team building. However, they are still accessible in the existing trade market. Consolidating trades (giving more players-pieces for fewer players-pieces) is a sound overarching trading strategy in nearly all formats and dynasty leagues. Patrick Mahomes II makes your dynasty team better. Josh Allen makes your dynasty team better. It could be costly at first glance, but Jordan McNamara and I have recorded many shows over the years with the question of "Did I get enough for [insert elite quarterback here]?" and the answer is overwhelmingly "No" as the seller of the elite quarterback.
Key trade idea: Acquire Patrick Mahomes II
Possible trade: Anthony Richardson, 2024 1st, 2024 1st, 2024 2nd for Patrick Mahomes II
This type of trade can seduce a Patrick Mahomes II team into selling. Just imagine if Anthony Richardson turns into Jalen Hurts or even Justin Fields, "I will have received those picks for essentially free!" The cup of cold water is there is still a difference at present between Hurts-Fields and Mahomes, and there likely always will be a difference. Fields needs to progress more to get to Hurts. And Hurts needs to progress to rival Mahomes. Using first-round picks to upgrade to the true unicorn at the most important position in Superflex leagues is the exact type of trade to construct and execute.
Key trade idea: Acquire Josh Allen
Possible trade: Bryce Young, Deebo Samuel, 2024 1st for Josh Allen
The downgrade at quarterback is substantial here, moving from Josh Allen to Bryce Young. Also, the 2024 1st becomes a later projection when a team acquires Allen. Deebo Samuel is the perfect mid-career wheel greaser to facilitate a bigger dynasty trade like this one.
Key trade idea: Acquire Justin Herbert
Possible trade: C.J. Stroud, Garrett Wilson for Justin Herbert
Garrett Wilson is white hot with training camp videos coming out of play after play being made with Aaron Rodgers. Even if Wilson is Capital G great this year as a top-five wide receiver, this trade will come down to how close C.J. Stroud gets to Justin Herbert in the quarterback hierarchy. Herbert's profile is far more insulated than Stroud's, plus Stroud offers minimal upside as a runner and operates on a "starting from scratch" Houston offense.
Footballguys Jordan McNamara highlights Justin Herbert as a prime bounce-back candidate this season.
Wide Receivers
Theme of the Week: Final window to shop risky 2023 projections
Comparing redraft and dynasty ADP is a simple way to isolate risky dynasty holds. If they underachieve this season's expectations, they will drop by the offseason or even be quasi-roster cloggers during the 2023 inseason. Here are a few examples of recent dynasty trades:
