Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Baker Mayfield (knee, shoulder) was limited in practice on Tuesday, Dec. 30.
Footballguys view: Mayfield has been dealing with a left (non-throwing) shoulder injury since earlier in the season. At this point, Mayfield doesn't appear to be at risk of missing Saturday's game against the Panthers, which may determine the winner of the NFC South. Mayfield has completed 62.8 percent of his passes for 3,490 yards with 25 touchdowns and 10 interceptions so far in 2025. He's rushed for 351 yards with a TD as well. Mayfield is QB12 on the season, but his 16.3 points per game rank 18th at the position.

Carolina Panthers RB Rico Dowdle (toe) did not practice on Tuesday, Dec. 30. Head coach Dave Canales said the move was not expected to hurt his availability for Week 18.
Footballguys view: Even though Dowdle sat out, head coach Dave Canales believes it won't be much of a problem ahead of Saturday's matchup against the Buccaneers. "He's got a sore toe," Canales told reporters. "A little bit more sore than normal, and so we just decided to give him a rest day. I'm pretty confident that he'll be able to go." Dowdle, who has 229 carries for 1,066 yards and a career-high six touchdowns on the season, ran for 59 yards, his most since Week 9, in Sunday's 27-10 loss to the Seahawks, working in his usual timeshare with Chuba Hubbard.

Dallas Cowboys RB Jaydon Blue could see some snaps in Week 18, according to owner/general manager Jerry Jones.
Footballguys view: Heading into the finale, Blue is running out of time to impress the coaching staff. As SI.com noted, there was no shortage of excitement when the Cowboys drafted Blue. The explosive back not only played a position of need, but also offered sub-4.4 speed, which has been another need. That excitement waned as Blue failed to see the field early in the season. He eventually got a shot when Miles Sanders was injured, but managed just 65 yards on 22 carries before being surpassed by Malik Davis. We'll see if Blue gets some chances to change the perception.
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is in the beginning stages of his rehab after undergoing surgery to repair his torn ACL suffered during Kansas City's Week 15 loss to the Chargers. Head coach Andy Reid said on Monday that Mahomes has been around the team as the season winds down. "[H] e's in the building working and doing his rehab, spending a lot of hours doing it," Reid said. "He's really attacked that and will continue to do that. He's around and sees the guys, but most of his time is being spent rehabbing."
Footballguys view: Reid added that Mahomes is unlikely to make the trip to Las Vegas for the Chiefs' season finale. He was in attendance in a suite for the team's Christmas Day loss to the Broncos. But make no mistake, the initial reporting that Mahomes is working to be ready for the start of the 2026 season is accurate. Whether he achieves that goal or not remains to be seen. But his determination to achieve it is clear. Mahomes completed 62.7 percent of his passes this year for 3,587 yards with 22 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

Dallas Cowboys CB Trevon Diggs was waived on Tuesday, Dec. 30. If he goes unclaimed on waivers, he will become a free agent.
Footballguys view: Diggs will become a free agent if he goes unclaimed and would not need to wait until March to sign with another team if he remains a free agent through the end of the regular season. Diggs played in the first six games of the season before landing on injured reserve. He suffered a concussion while at home and also continued recovering from knee issues that limited him to 13 games over the two previous seasons. He returned to play in the last two games.

Despite being out of contention for the NFC West title, Los Angeles Rams coach Sean McVay said he would play his starters in Week 18 against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. The move is a departure from the past two seasons, when McVay rested quarterback Matthew Stafford and many of Los Angeles' key starters in the final week of the regular season despite seeding still being in play. "Oh, we're playing," McVay said Monday night after the Rams' 27-24 loss to the Atlanta Falcons. "Yeah, they're playing."
Footballguys view: The Rams would be the No. 5 seed in the NFC if they beat the Cardinals next week and the Seahawks beat the 49ers. Los Angeles would be the No. 6 seed with a loss to Arizona or a San Francisco victory. When asked if he's eager to play Week 18, Stafford said, "Yeah, I love playing the game. So, yeah. I'll be ready to go." Stafford entered Monday night as the odds-on favorite to win MVP at -225, according to DraftKings Sportsbook. After the loss, Patriots quarterback Drake Maye became the favorite at -400 to Stafford at +300.

Pittsburgh Steelers LB T.J. Watt (lung) has provided optimism for head coach Mike Tomlin for Week 18. 'We'll work him up over the course of the week and let the amount of participation and quality of participation be our guide,' Tomlin said. 'I'm more optimistic than I've been in previous weeks.'
Footballguys view: Watt has not played since a Dec. 7 victory over Baltimore, after a procedure to close a small hole in his lung. Watt practiced in a limited capacity last week, but that was not enough for the club to put him on the field against the Browns in Week 17. Tomlin said he's not concerned about Watt not being in "football shape" despite his three-game absence. Tomlin noted he's willing to use Watt circumstantially instead of his usual full-time role if necessary. "I'm open to utilizing him in any way that's appropriate relative to his availability," Tomlin said.

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Darnell Washington (arm) had surgery to repair a broken arm Tuesday, Dec. 30, and he's likely done for the season.
Footballguys view: Washington was fourth on the team with 364 receiving yards on 31 receptions with one touchdown. Tomlin noted that the Steelers do have options to replace Washington's production. "You know, we use a lot of tight ends," Tomlin said. That's true. But none of the other tight ends have Washington's body type at 6-7 and 264 pounds with the way he can move. Pat Freeirmuth, Jonnu Smith, and Connor Heyward are the team's listed other options at tight end on the 53-man roster.

New England Patriots WR Stefon Diggs has been charged with felony strangulation or suffocation and misdemeanor assault and battery charges stemming from an incident Tuesday, Dec. 2. Diggs' attorney, Michael DiStefano, disclosed to the court that Diggs has made a financial offer to resolve the dispute with the alleged victim in this case. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Friday, Jan. 23, just two days before the AFC Championship game is scheduled to be played.
Footballguys view: According to the Patriots, Diggs "categorically denies the allegations" against him -- despite the efforts to reach agreement on monetary resolution with the alleged victim. The Patriots (13-3) have their final regular-season game on Sunday against the Dolphins, then will be in the AFC playoffs. As Profootballtalk.com notes, the charges won't affect Diggs' ability to play in the 2025 postseason (and the team's statement suggests they won't either). The impediment, if any, to Diggs participating in the playoffs would come from the NFL, which could place him on paid leave. We'll watch for more on that.

Arizona Cardinals WR Marvin Harrison Jr. (foot) suffered a foot injury during the Week 17 game but will be active for the Week 18 game if he is medically cleared to play, according to head coach Jonathan Gannon.
Footballguys view: Harrison has been dealing with a heel issue in recent weeks, which caused him to miss multiple games. He was questionable entering this past Sunday but played on a limited snap count, appearing in just 19 plays throughout the course of the game. When asked about Harrison playing against Los Angeles in Week 18, Gannon said: "If he's healthy enough to play, he'll play." The Cardinals will begin practice on Wednesday, so that's when we'll get our first official injury report for Week 18 -- though it feels like a good possibility Harrison might not be healthy enough to make it to Sunday.
Indianapolis Colts QB Riley Leonard will start in Week 18 against the Houston Texans.
Footballguys view: The move to Leonard ends Philip Rivers' run as a starter after coming out of a five-year retirement. Coach Shane Steichen, one of Rivers' closest friends, coaxed Rivers out of retirement because of his intimate knowledge of the offense and leadership capacity. But with the Colts eliminated from playoff contention last weekend, the team had to weigh whether it made sense to continue starting the 44-year-old Rivers. Asked about the prospect of Leonard starting on Sunday, Steichen said, "It will be good for his development." It will be less good for the fantasy outcomes of his supporting cast this week.

Link to storyAtlanta Falcons RB Bijan Robinson ran the ball 22 times for 195 yards and a touchdown against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 17. Robinson added a team-high five receptions (on eight targets) for 34 yards and a score.
Footballguys view: A 93-yard touchdown added to another sensational night for Robinson, who had the Rams spinning to the tune of 229 scrimmage yards -- his second 200-plus scrimmage-yard outing on Monday Night Football this year. In Week 6, Robinson had a then-career-long 81-yard TD run as part of a 238-yard night against the Bills. Only Robinson and Jerry Rice have had back-to-back games with 200-plus scrimmage yards in Monday Night Football history. He's averaged 180.4 scrimmage yards per prime-time game this year. The resulting 39.9 fantasy points were second only to Derrick Henry's 45.5 in Week 17.

Prior to departing with an ankle injury, Los Angeles Rams RB Blake Corum (ankle) carried the ball six times for 18 yards against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 17. Corum departed in the second quarter and was eventually ruled out.
Footballguys view: Corum will be a situation to monitor this week. Head coach Sean McVay told reporters he plans to play his starters in Week 18. He has not been happy with the effort the past several weeks, and it showed during the post Monday Night Football press conference. Corum has been playing well heading into Monday night. He had touchdowns in four straight games, sharing time with Kyren Williams. Corum was easily on pace for a fourth consecutive contest with double-digit carries before the injury. We'll be watching for more on his injury in coming days.

Los Angeles Rams WR Puka Nacua had five receptions (on 10 targets) for 47 yards and a touchdown versus the Atlanta Falcons in Week 17.
Footballguys view: It wasn't Nacua's best game, but it was noteworthy. The former BYU standout officially surpassed 300 career receptions in just 43 games, making him the fastest player in NFL history to reach the mark. He broke the previous record held by Michael Thomas and Odell Beckham Jr., who each achieved the feat in 45 games. On the season, Nacua has compiled 119 receptions for 1,639 yards and nine touchdowns, averaging 13.8 yards per reception and 109.3 yards per game. Nacua sits at WR1 on the season after scoring 23.4 fantasy points per game.

Atlanta Falcons DE Brandon Dorlus (knee) left the Week 17 game against the Los Angeles Rams in the third quarter due to a knee injury. He was carted off, and he will not return.
Link to storyTampa Bay Buccaneers SS Tykee Smith was apparently benched in Week 17 against the Miami Dolphins, as head coach Todd Bowles opted to use backup S Christian Izien instead. Smith typically plays 100 percent of the snaps, and there was no report of injury. Smith was limited to 47 percent of the defensive snaps, and the benching might have been due to Smith appearing to be out of position on a long 63-yard TD to WR Theo Wease Jr.
Link to storyTampa Bay Buccaneers RBs Bucky Irving and Rachaad White nearly split the backfield snaps right down the middle in Week 17 against the Miami Dolphins, with Irving seeing 54 percent of the snaps, to White's 48 percent. White was on the field for some of Irving's snaps because he is the best pass-blocking tailback.
