Titans | Cam Ward making progress in new offense Mon May 11, 12:11 AM
Tennessee Titans QB Cam Ward is learning a second offense in his second NFL season, as offensive coordinator Brian Daboll is now working with the former No. 1 overall pick. Daboll feels Ward has made some early progress, and he has shown to be a quick study. 'He is a young professional,' Daboll said. 'He wants to be great. He is instinctive. When we are just watching the tape, he is able to communicate the things that he sees and why he did certain things when we watch the tape from last year. When we are installing the new system to him, concepts and things like that, he is able to pick things up very quickly.'
Footballguys view: Ward is learning his second offense in two seasons. Getting the system down in the spring will allow Ward to develop faster when the real work begins in training camp. The Titans' goal this offseason has been to buffer Ward as much as possible. The QB flashed big-time play ability down the stretch last year, with exciting splash plays, and showed the ability to lead comebacks. His development is why Daboll was hired. It's why they inked Wan'Dale Robinson and used the No. 4 overall pick on receiver Carnell Tate. Now it's on Ward to put it all to use.
Los Angeles Chargers WR Quentin Johnston has shown a lot of growth, even in the past week, according to new offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel. 'You'd be hard pressed to find a guy that's grown more specifically in the last week than Q,' McDaniel said. 'I think he's a guy that has some traits in his game that are similar to some very powerful, explosive, productive receivers that I've had in the past, namely like Julio (Jones) and Andre (Johnson) and so we're pushing him.'
Footballguys view: Johnston has thrived for the Chargers in the last two seasons, totaling 106 receptions for 1,446 yards and 16 touchdowns across the 2024 and 2025 seasons. The Chargers showed their belief in Johnston when the franchise exercised his fifth-year option on April 28. The move will keep Johnston under contract with the Chargers for the next two seasons. Los Angeles will have Johnston, Ladd McConkey, Tre' Harris, KeAndre Lambert-Smith, and Derius Davis returning next season. The Chargers also drafted wide receiver Brenen Thompson in the fourth round of the 2026 NFL Draft.

Indianapolis Colts QBs Riley Leonard and Anthony Richardson are set to battle for the primary backup job to starter QB Daniel Jones, while QB Seth Henigan is also on the roster. Offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter said it's 'still early' and 'too soon' to determine a frontrunner for the QB2 job.
Footballguys view: With Daniel Jones coming off a season-ending injury, the next man in line is important for the Colts. Leonard, a 2025 sixth-round pick, started Week 18 last year after the Colts were eliminated from postseason contention. Richardson's history is well documented. The No. 4 overall pick entered the NFL in 2023 with a unique skillset but little college experience. He's started just 15 games in three seasons -- 11 coming in 2024. With Jones still in rehab, Leonard and Richardson will get plenty of reps to prove worthy of the backup gig.

Denver Broncos RB Jonah Coleman might be in line for the No. 3 job behind RBs J.K. Dobbins and RJ Harvey. He was selected with the team's second pick, and he is tough, and Coleman can catch passes and pass protect, which should endear him to head coach Sean Payton.
Footballguys view: With Dobbins injured and unavailable down the stretch last year, Harvey was inefficient as the primary back. As a result, the Broncos entered the offseason looking to bolster the ground attack. That's precisely why they used their second pick on Coleman. Coleman is a tough, physical running back with three-down capabilities due to his ability to catch passes and pass protect. According to SI.com's Justin Melo, Sean Payton will immediately fall in love with his commitment and rugged approach.
Buffalo Bills WR Skyler Bell was selected 125th in the 2026 NFL Draft, but he could begin the season as the fourth option on the depth chart, with WR Keon Coleman falling out of favor.
Footballguys view: As SI.com suggested, the Bills let quarterback Josh Allen down last season when it came to providing him with passing-game weapons. In an attempt to course-correct, they traded for DJ Moore and drafted Bell. With Keon Coleman on the outs, Bell could be in line for opportunities to impact the offense. The former UConn weapon posted 104 receptions for the Huskies in 2025, fourth-most among eligible FBS wideouts.
Tryout players LB Yasir Holmes (Tarleton State) and WR Dean Patterson (Georgia Tech) were signed to the 90-man roster by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers following the team's rookie minicamp.
Link to storyKansas City Chiefs CB Jadon Canady, a Day 3 selection in the 2026 NFL Draft, could contend for the nickel cornerback job in defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo's defense. Canady is considered athletic and smart enough to challenge for a job as a rookie.
Link to storyFree-agent QB Nathan Peterman was overqualified in a tryout during the rookie minicamp of the Denver Broncos. The organization will not sign Peterman, but he looked good, and it could be a springboard to another job elsewhere.

Former Colorado State DL Nuer Gatkouth was informed by the Denver Broncos after minicamp that he will not be signed, and he plans to join the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2026. He was drafted No. 4 overall in the 2026 CFL Draft. He said the Broncos told him they'll monitor his CFL play, and will consider bringing him back for another look in 2027.
Link to storyNew England Patriots third-round draft choice TE Eli Raridon signed a four-year contract with the Patriots Saturday, May 9. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Raridon's ceiling is as high as any tight end in this class, but he is a work in progress. We probably won't see him really approach his potential until at earliest his second season, but Raridon should be a priority third or fourth round pick in rookie drafts for tight end premium leagues. He's worth monitoring in all dynasty leagues, and also worth drafting in PPR dynasty leagues if the benches are long enough to accommodate multi-year projects.
Denver Broncos QB Bo Nix (ankle) will probably do some throwing during the June minicamp and should be fully healthy for training camp, according to head coach Sean Payton.
Footballguys view: Nix's injury might have been worse than originally let on, but as long as he is a full go at the open of camp, we won't change the outlook for him or the Denver offense this season.
Washington Commanders sixth-round draft choice RB Kaytron Allen signed a four-year contract with the Commanders Friday, May 8. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Allen is already making noise in rookie minicamp and should have the edge to be the short yardage back and game finisher to begin the season, with a chance to lead the team in carries with the new under center running game that he is well-suited for. Allen is an excellent assignment sound runner, but he doesn't have an impressive burst or quickness.
Updating previous reports, undrafted free-agent QB Jalon Daniels (Kansas), TE Kenny Fletcher Jr. (Rutgers), WR Eric Rivers Jr. (Georgia Tech) and WR Noah Short (Army) officially signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Friday, May 8. Terms of the contracts were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Daniels was one of Greg Cosell of NFL Films favorite quarterback prospects in this year's draft. He is a dual threat, but with a good arm and pocket presence. Daniels only has to beat out Jake Browning to back up Baker Mayfield this year.
Denver Broncos QB Bo Nix (ankle) might be on the field in some capacity during minicamp from June 16-18, and head coach Sean Payton said Nix should be full speed in July.
Link to storyLos Angeles Chargers QB Justin Herbert has zero playoff victories in three tries, although he is considered one of the league's top quarterbacks. New offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel wants to take Herbert to a new level. 'We're looking to master and be elite at everything that we do and being able to own the position in a new way,' McDaniel said. 'Being able for him to own the position a way he never has and ultimately, for it to be obvious to everyone around that he's playing the best football of his career.'

New Orleans Saints WR Jordyn Tyson practice fully on Friday, May 8, but the team held him out Saturday, May 9. It was reportedly a planned day off, and not some type of new injury. He dealt with hamstring injuries since the 2025 season, and it's why he did not work out at the NFL Scouting Combine.
Link to storyLos Angeles Chargers RB Keaton Mitchell was not tendered by the Baltimore Ravens because of his salary figure, as well as his lack of flexibility. 'He was gonna make over $3 million this year based on the system, which was a restricted free agency system, the tender,' general manager Eric DeCosta said. 'Again, not a real special teams guy. A talented space runner. He's not necessarily the most dynamic pass-catching back, so then it becomes, well, would you rather have (Derrick Henry) on the field or Keaton?'

Cleveland Browns QB Taylen Green has been working on his fundamentals as a passer with the team's coaching staff. 'Well, first thing was...footwork,' coach Todd Monken said. 'Cadence -- getting used to our cadence early on, and he was better today, but [Saturday] morning and [Friday], choppy with his cadence. So just getting our guys into a rhythm at the line of scrimmage, I think that was the second thing he needed to work on. He did a nice job today of working through his progressions. I did like that part of it. We're gonna have to be really diligent in trying to tighten down his release.'
Link to storySeattle Seahawks LB Derick Hall had 8.0 sacks, six tackles for loss and two forced fumbles in 2025 across 14 regular-season games, and he had two sacks in the Super Bowl victory, including a strip-sack fumble. He could be an extension candidate, especially with LB Uchenna Nwosu missing significant time due to injuries in recent seasons, LB DeMarcus Lawrence reportedly considering retirement earlier this season, and LB Dante Fowler Jr. turning 32 in August.

Baltimore Ravens LBs Mike Green and Zion Young are players the organization is excited about, and general manager Eric DeCosta said it is a challenge of balancing playing time at outside linebacker while evaluating several younger players. 'We feel really good about Zion, and we feel really good about (Green), not to mention (Trey Hendrickson). It's gonna be hard to get him off the field. So, it becomes a matter of reps,' DeCosta said.

Houston Texans WR Tank Dell (knee) has been doing well in the team's offseason conditioning program, as he makes his way back from a dislocated left knee, torn anterior cruciate ligament, as well as torn medial collateral and lateral collateral ligaments. He has made a lot of progress, and he is running again and cutting in his routes, although he is not back to 100 percent.
Footballguys view: CJ Stroud's best performances came with Dell on the field, so his return can only be a good thing for the Texans quarterback. It might not be a good thing for the fantasy value of Nico Collins, as Stroud targeted Dell (when the receiver was a rookie) just about as often as he did Collins.

Houston Texans WR Nico Collins said this week that he would like to spend his entire career with the organization. 'I love the Texans,' Collins said. 'I got drafted here. It's somewhere I want to end. I love the city, the people, the community. There's a lot of great positive vibes coming out of the city of Houston. So, it's definitely a place I would like to retire.' He is due $20 million fully guaranteed in 2026, and $21.25 million non-guaranteed in 2027. He is the 18th-highest paid wide receiver in terms of average compensation in 2026.

Free-agent WR Odell Beckham Jr. (Dolphins) remains in contact with the New York Giants, but head coach John Harbaugh said the team will 'play it out over the next month and into training camp' before making a decision on whether or not to sign the mercurial receiver. He worked out for the team, and Harbaugh said he 'looked good'.

New York Jets QB Cade Klubnik (ankle, wrist) struggled with a sprained right ankle and wrist injury in his final season at Clemson, and with his play suffering, his draft stock took a nosedive. But, Klubnik remains confident heading into his rookie season. 'In my mind, I'm a winner,' Klubnik said Saturday at rookie minicamp. 'I don't mean that in a boastful way. I think that's the mentality you have to have as a quarterback, and I think that my resume has kind of showed that as well.'
Link to storySeattle Seahawks RB Kenny McIntosh (knee) is a speedy back who has battled knee injuries in the early part of his career, including a torn ACL suffered in training camp last summer. 'He's coming along,' head coach Mike Macdonald said last month. 'It's tough to put a timetable to it. He's training his tail off. I think it's one of those deals where, 'Hey, let's just keep hitting those benchmarks until we can evaluate what it's going to look like in the fall.''

Seattle Seahawks RB Zach Charbonnet (knee) continues to recover from surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee suffered during the Divisional Round of the playoffs. He is expected to return at some point this season, but head coach Mike Macdonald doesn't know exactly when Charbonnet will be back. 'I can't give you a timeline right now, but I can tell you he's killing it as we knew he would,' coach Mike Macdonald said during the draft. 'With these long-term injuries -- I say it all the time, you've just got to stack these things. You have to be able to get to the next thing and go rip it, and that's what he's doing. I'm excited for Zach.'
Footballguys view: The Seahawks can afford to be conservative with Charbonnet's return after taking Jadarian Price at the end of the first round of the draft. He isn't worth taking in typical leagues because his ceiling even when he returns isn't very high.
Zach Charbonnet player page
Seattle Seahawks RB Emanuel Wilson is a bigger back at 5-foot-10 and 226 pounds, who gives the team a power runner while RB Zach Charbonnet (knee) is on the shelf recovering from ACL surgery in February. Despite the absence of Charbonnet, likely until later in the regular season, Wilson still has to contend with top healthy holdover RB George Holani and rookie draft pick RB Jadarian Price for the top spot on the depth chart.
Footballguys view: If Price isn't ready for prime time - he was a back up in college because he played with Jeremiyah Love - then Wilson will be the primary early down and goal line back for the Seahawks. He's worth a late round pick in best ball leagues and an end of the bench spot in deep dynasty leagues.
Seattle Seahawks RB George Holani is the lone healthy holdover in the backfield, and his work catching the ball and working in pass protection makes him a strong candidate for third-down work, even when RB Zach Charbonnet (knee) is ready to return. Holani is battling free-agent addition RB Emanuel Wilson and draft pick RB Jadarian Price for a more meaningful role until Charbonnet can get back.
Footballguys view: Holani doesn't have standalone value in fantasy leagues, but he could lower Jadarian Price's ceiling if he proves to be a capable third down back. If injuries thin the backfield, he could have spot start fantasy value during the season.
Seattle Seahawks RB Jadarian Price is viewed as a replacement for RB Kenneth Walker III (Chiefs), but he isn't the clear-cut RB1 with RBs Emanuel Wilson and George Holani in the mix, and RB Zach Charbonnet (knee) expected back at some point. The team isn't asking Price to go from RB2 in college to a high-volume starter in the NFL. He averaged roughly 18.5 snaps and nearly nine touches per game over the past two seasons at Notre Dame, and he also returned kickoffs, so he could be used in that role, even with the presence of WR Rashid Shaheed.
Footballguys view: The Seahawks aren't going away from a committee backfield, but that doesn't mean that Price isn't worth a top five selection in dynasty rookie drafts. If he gets goal line work and leads the team in carries, that should be more than enough to be a fantasy RB2, with room to grow in the future because Zach Charbonnet is a free agent in 2027.

Link to storyNew Orleans Saints third-round draft choice TE Oscar Delp signed a four-year contract with the Saints Friday, May 8. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Delp is a classic "could be a better pro than college player" prospect. Georgia didn't use him often as a receiver, but when they did, the speed, athleticism, and ball skills of a weapon in the passing game were apparent. The Saints used three picks in the first four rounds to add players who can do damage downfield for Tyler Shough and Kellen Moore.
