Scouting Report

Brenen Thompson starred at quarterback and was a state of Texas track champion before arriving at Texas as the WR22 of the 2022 class. His time with the home-state Longhorns was short, as he transferred to Oklahoma for the 2023 season. After serving in a supporting role for two seasons with the Sooners, he moved again, following his former Oklahoma offensive coordinator, Jeff Lebby, to play his final season at Mississippi State. Thompson flashed in his final college season, leading the SEC in receiving yards and setting a new Mississippi State school record while earning second-team All-SEC honors. Thompson immediately claimed a leadership role with the Bulldogs, representing the team at SEC media days and earning Lebby's praise for his maturity.

Thompson is an elite athlete who earned a spot on Bruce Feldman's annual Freaks List. He has reportedly reached 23 MPH in games and is projected to run a 4.29 40-yard dash, putting him among the fastest players in the class. Thompson did most of his work in the vertical passing game or in schemed opportunities to allow him to create in space. That said, he showcased a well-rounded game, contributing in the intermediate area as the primary receiver. Thompson's size likely limits his overall upside, but he can be a meaningful contributor.

Rundown

Thompson may be the fastest player in the 2026 NFL draft. In one season at Mississippi State, he broke the school receiving yardage record. His ceiling may be limited due to his size, but he possesses elite athletic traits.
