Scouting Report
Jaren Kanak is a 1940s football coach's dream. He was a four-star athlete recruit coming out of high school, and played outside linebacker, quarterback, and wide receiver. He was also a track star and had a personal record of 10.37 at over 200 pounds at the time. Kanak committed to Oklahoma and played three seasons for them as a linebacker. As a junior, he didn't play as much as in previous seasons, and he transitioned to tight end ahead of his senior year. Kanak was a captain for the Kansas game as a senior.
Kanak is one of the top three most athletic tight ends in this class. Unfortunately, he remains raw and is learning the position in real time. He's a willing blocker, but struggles with play strength against bigger defensive linemen. His routes showcase some of the athleticism, but he lacks nuance or feel for where defenders will try to shove him off his spots. Once he's in the open field, he can fly, and his speed at his size forces some defenders to take bad angles on him along the sideline.
Rundown
Kanak is still learning the fundamentals of playing tight end, but a creative offensive coordinator can find a way to unlock his potential at the next level.
