Montgomery steps in as the primary rushing anchor for Houston, where a prolific passing game anchored by C.J. Stroud will keep defenses from crowding the line of scrimmage. The strength of the defense could lead to an increase in rushing output, especially in the second half of games this season.

Montgomery's production suffered last year in Detroit, because the Lions lost their veteran center to retirement during the summer, and the interior of the line struggled as the season unfolded.
The Texans revamped their offensive line this offseason. I expect the ground game to improve this year and pass protection to follow by early next.
Montgomery will should approach 1,000 yards and 10 scores. If Woody Marks remains healthy, expect a big enough split that Montgomery doesn't reach those totals. If Marks gets hurt or falters, Montgomery could earn 1,500-1,700 yards from scrimmage and 10-12 touchdowns if the OL jels early in the run game.

Woody Marks excited about competition
Houston Texans RB Woody Marks said he is 'very excited' about the addition of RB David Montgomery to the running backs' room, and he is already forming a dynamic partnership with him. 'Just looking back at the clips with him and (Detroit Lions RB) Jahmyr Gibbs, it looked like they was having so much fun out there,' Marks said. 'When the running back room doing good and everybody blocking, it's a party in the running back room. So, we're looking to have that same joy him and (Gibbs) had bringing it down here in Houston.
