Taylor had a phenomenal season, on par with only his 2021 season. Repeats are difficult at his position, but he has proven himself elite for six years and still has several good years left in him. The heartbeat of the Colts offense.

In six NFL seasons, Taylor has only finished outside of the top 10 twice - both of which were seasons where he was limited to 10 and 11 games played. If he's healthy, he's elite.

Taylor's high-end fantasy outlook depends on positive game scripts. Expecting Daniel Jones to replicate his career-best season less than a year removed from a torn Achilles requires irrational optimism.

Taylor is in the same tier of talent as any of the backs mentioned ahead of him. His offensive is also an asset.
The missing link could be quarterback and wide receiver. Daniel Jones is recovering from an Achilles tear, and he may not be ready early in the year.
The Colts might be intent to use Riley Leonard ahead of Anthony Richardson, which could hurt the offense while Jones is out. Alec Pierce may also miss part of September and without Michael Pittman, the corps is a work in progress.
All of these factors could make it easier for opposing defenses to limit Taylor in September. That could be the difference between where I ranked Taylor and where he could have been valued.

Anthony Richardson to start final preseason game on Saturday
Indianapolis Colts QB Anthony Richardson will start the Colts' final preseason game against the Detroit Lions, according to HC Shane Steichen on Tuesday, Aug. 25. Steichen said the starters will play, except QB Daniel Jones and RB Jonathan Taylor. The starters will likely play just a series or two.

Indianapolis Colts RB Jonathan Taylor agreed to a two-year, $44 million extension Thursday, Aug. 6. The deal includes $39 million guaranteed and is worth a maximum of $47 million.

The Lions and Falcons are each dealing with apparent hold-ins by their respective star running backs. While Jonathan Taylor is not on his first pro deal, he is in a contract year. But he's not taking the same approach with the Colts. Taylor was on the field practicing with the team on Wednesday and said after the session that he feels like an extension is on its way. "There have been some good conversations, but I have faith between my agent and the front office," Taylor said. "I would love to be a Colt for life, and I have faith that things are moving in the right direction."
