Matt Waldman
Alec Pierce will most most of training camp due to ankle surgery. With Michael Pittman in Pittsburgh, Downs was going to be one of the top three targeted receivers regardless of Pierce's injury.
Who will be targeting Colts receivers to begin the year? That's the most important question. Daniel Jones has some latent issues throwing into the middle of the field against umbrella coverage.
Anthony Richardson has been aggressive and some of his best plays were seam shots to Downs in the vertical game. Riley Leonard is unproven.
There has been a lot of public buzz that Downs is more than a short-area slot receiver. If Pierce is slow to recover, this will be the year to find out if that's true or if it's misplaced hype along the lines of Jamison Crowder, a former slot from Duke who earned similar acclaim that never materialized.

Indianapolis Colts WR Josh Downs could see an increase in usage this season, according to general manager Chris Ballard. 'I think allowing him some more opportunities, we're going to see some of the special stuff you've seen in the past, but more,' Ballard said.
