Slayton agrees to terms with Colts after Pierce heel injury
Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reports that Colts WR Darius Slayton has agreed to terms with Indianapolis. The move comes with Colts WR Alec Pierce expected to miss at least several weeks after aggravating his surgically repaired heel, likely leading to an injured reserve stint that opens a roster spot for Slayton. The Giants cut Slayton earlier this month; he spent seven years in New York, tallying 296 catches for 4,435 yards and 22 touchdowns.
Alec Pierce ruled out after heel injury vs. Chiefs, carted to locker room for X-rays
Carter Bahns of CBS Sports reports that Colts WR Alec Pierce was ruled out for the remainder of Sunday night's game against the Kansas City Chiefs after injuring his heel on a route in the first quarter. Pierce lost his footing while cutting toward the sideline, continued his route in obvious pain, and was unable to put weight on his left leg before being carted to the locker room for X-rays. The injury is notable given Pierce underwent offseason surgery on the same left ankle, which limited his practice availability into Week 1; he finished with one catch for 11 yards on his only target before exiting. With Pierce out, Josh Downs projects to be elevated to the No. 1 receiver role, while Keenan Allen and TE Tyler Warren, who caught the game's first touchdown, could see larger roles in the Colts' game plan.
Jones hits Warren for 1-yard TD as Colts drive down field again
Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk reports that Colts QB Daniel Jones connected with TE Tyler Warren for a 1-yard touchdown, giving Indianapolis a 7-0 lead. The Colts went 2-of-2 on third down during the drive, including Warren converting a third-and-1 with a 3-yard rush and Jones hitting WR Josh Downs for 11 yards on third-and-4. A roughing the passer penalty moved the Colts to Kansas City's 1-yard line before Jones found Warren for his second touchdown reception of the season; RB Jonathan Taylor added five carries for 22 yards on the possession as Jones finished 4-of-4 for 33 yards.
No passing game standouts in loss to Baltimore
Colts QB Daniel Jones completed 19 of 31 passes for 166 yards, one score and one interception. Alec Pierce led the receivers with 61 yards on his four catches (six targets, while Keenan Allen led the team with six catches (for only 32 yards), and Tyler Warren caught the touchdown and two other balls for 13 yards. Josh Downs pitched in two catches for 37 yards.
