Gainwell parlayed a brilliant, 1,000-yard season in Pittsburgh into a fresh two-year contract with Tampa Bay. He is slated to share the backfield with Bucky Irving, where his receiving skills should secure him the primary passing-down role.
Phil Alexander
His two-year, $14 million contract suggests the Bucs view him as more than injury insurance for Bucky Irving. Coming off a 73-catch, eight-touchdown breakout year in Pittsburgh, it's fair to wonder if Gainwell might be the best back on Tampa Bay's roster.
Matt Waldman
Bucky Irving might not be ready until sometime this fall, according to Todd Bowles. I'm thinking 5-7 games missed, especially when you look at the offseason activity.
If the Buccaneers were confident in Irving's recovery and long-term availability, they wouldn't have added Kenneth Gainwell AND re-signed Sean Tucker to an RFA tender.
Irving is small and his body hasn't held up to playing big. I'm expecting a three-headed backfield with Tucker and Irving splitting attempts. Gainwell will be the touch leader -- think 240-250, 1,100-1,200 yards from scrimmage, and 8-11 scores.
Gainwell is the least explosive of the three backs, but he's the savviest as a decision-maker and receiver from the backfield.

His arrival in Tampa Bay potentially diminishes Bucky Irving, but don't expect Gainwell to be a reliable fantasy starter unless Irving fails. He has flex appeal in any week due to his receiving and goal-line work, so that lifts his upside a bit.
