Mahomes is expected to be fully healthy for Week 1 after reconstructive surgery fixed a December ACL and LCL tear. While Kansas City's receiver depth remains a question mark, the offseason addition of running back Kenneth Walker, combined with Eric Bieniemy's return as offensive coordinator, should revitalize his elite fantasy upside. During their previous five seasons together, the Chiefs never finished lower than sixth in scoring while Mahomes claimed two league MVP awards.

He's still the quarterback you'd pick first to win an NFL game, but he's been a middling fantasy option for three straight seasons. Last year's career highs of 422 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns are unlikely to repeat while returning early from a torn ACL, and his receiving corps is no better than it was a year ago.

If Mahomes is ready Week 1, he'll be higher on my board. I've projected multiple games with Justin Fields as the starter.

Even if Mahomes starts early, I expected impeded mobility and adjustments to begin the season that limits his production. I could see starter-level production down the stretch but uglier values early.

Great player but I'm still evaluating how optimistic/pessimistic I'll be. Stay tuned.

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes said during the offseason program that his goal is to be ready for Week 1, despite suffering a torn ACL in December. With training camp just around the corner, that goal is becoming more and more in reach. Mahomes reiterated his stance during an interview with Yahoo Sports Daily on Wednesday. "That's my goal," Mahomes said. "It's not just my decision, but at the same time, I'm going to give the doctors and the coaches every single opportunity I can to let me be out there Week 1."
