White lands in Washington on a one-year deal, reuniting with his former college teammate Jayden Daniels. While his numbers dropped in Tampa Bay once Bucky Irving took over the primary workload, he remains a highly reliable, dual-threat option who stood out early in the Commanders' offseason program. He is expected to split time in a backfield committee with Jacory Croskey-Merritt, but his elite pass-catching skills give him a secure floor as a third-down weapon.

Washington wants to run more with its backs while limiting Jayden Daniels' attempts. They'll be using Daniels from center which is the ideal way for backs to read the line.
For the past two seasons, the Commanders' RBs carried the ball an average of 350 times. Quarterbacks carried it an average of 143 times. They have a strong OL to support it.
If 30-40 of those QB carries go to the RBs, we're getting them within range of 400 carries. The two backs in line to handle most of this workload are Jacory Croskey-Merritt and Rachaad White.
The coaching staff is pushing Croskey-Merritt to become a complete pro because they love his exploision and creativity. White is the best veteran on the roster.
Overrated early in his career when Leonard Fournette was in Tampa, White became underrated when the public placed too much stock in Bucky Irving.
White excels as a receiver and runs with power. Expect him to lead in touches and dominate the passing game.

Washington likely to use RB committee situation
Washington Commanders RBs Jacory Croskey-Merritt and Jeremy McNichols are the top two returning backs for the team. They added RBs Jerome Ford and Rachaad White in offseason transactions, while also adding RB Kaytron Allen in the sixth round of the 2026 NFL Draft. The team is also intrigued by undrafted rookie RB Robert Henry Jr. The team hasn't had a No. 1 running back in a while, and it appears the team will enter the season with a running back by committee situation.
