Allgeier was primed for a big season after signing in free agency. Then the Cardinals took the highly regarded rookie Jeremiyah Love. Allgeier still gets a chance to start with Love nursing an injury and should be an excellent placeholder while Love learns.

Allgeier came to Arizona hoping he get a shot to be the lead actor in a backfield and not the reliable understudy. Instead, the Cardinals drafted Jeremiyah Love and Allgeier expressed his disappointment.
Expect Allgeier to be in the same role as he was in Atlanta. James Connor will likely be elsewhere by September and Trey Benson's injuries may have led Arizona to write him off.
If Allgeier is needed to start, he can deliver fantasy RB2/RB3 production as a physical downhill runner and screen receiver.

Allgeier has averaged 155 attempts, 614 yards, and 5 touchdowns as Bijan Robinson's understudy over the last three seasons. Those numbers feel fair for 2026, absent Jeremiyah Love missing time, a scenario that creates high value as a handcuff.

Allgeier listed as RB1; Love is RB2 on initial depth chart
Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur said this week that he feels good about running back Jeremiyah Love being in the lineup against the Chargers in Week 1, but it remains to be seen what kind of role the rookie will play coming off of an ankle injury. It seems clear that any role for Love will include splitting time with Tyler Allgeier. The Cardinals have Allgeier listed as the No. 1 running back on their first depth chart of the regular season. Bam Knight is listed as the third running back.
