Alec Pierce heading to IR with heel injury, opted against surgery
Colts head coach Shane Steichen told reporters that WR Alec Pierce (heel) will be placed on injured reserve. NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported earlier this week that Pierce planned to rehab his heel injury rather than undergo another surgical procedure. Pierce aggravated the heel injury during Indianapolis's Week 2 loss to the Chiefs.
Slayton on Colts fit: offense 'intuitive,' expects Jones connection to 'look similar'
Colts.com reports that WR Darius Slayton, signed after Alec Pierce's IR-bound heel injury, is working closely with WR coach Reggie Wayne to learn Indianapolis' offense before Week 3 against the Texans. Slayton who spent five seasons catching passes from QB Daniel Jones with the Giants, said "philosophically, I think we see the field pretty similarly, and that's something that worked well for us in the past. And I expect it to work well for us going forward." Head coach Shane Steichen said Slayton could add "juice" to the offense with his downfield speed, and Slayton noted that before Jones' injury last season, "the offense was sharp" and he expects it "to look similar this year again."
Pierce headed to IR with heel injury, Ward Sr. sidelined with groin issue
Colts.com reports that head coach Shane Steichen said Wednesday that Indianapolis plans to place WR Alec Pierce on injured reserve due to a heel injury sustained on Sunday. Cornerback Charvarius Ward Sr. sustained a groin injury in Kansas City and was a nonparticipant in Wednesday's practice ahead of the matchup against Houston. WR Ashton Dulin remained out of practice with an ankle injury, while RB Jonathan Taylor and WR Keenan Allen were limited with veteran rest days. Sauce Gardner (rib), G Matt Goncalves (foot) and WR Laquon Treadwell (shoulder) were all full participants.
