Hey, Y'all.
I'm sorry, and I'm embarrassed.
I am not going to be able to have an edition of Random Shots this week. Some of y'all may know that, despite being vaccinated in the spring, I contracted COVID last week. Don't worry. I feel confident I'm not in any danger. And clearly and tragically, this has been incredibly dangerous for a great many people, including our good friend Mike Tagliere who passed away earlier this week. So in the light of Mike, my situation is like a sniffle.
But I am not going to lie. This thing is kicking my butt. I've run around a 102 fever off and on for the last 10 days. It's the sickest I've been in 20 years. Even my hair hurts. Not sure what that's about.
As I said earlier, my only concern is being present for my son's wedding this weekend. That means clearing the CDC regulations of remaining fever-free for 24 hours. I haven't been there in 10 days but hoping for a rally today and tomorrow.
On the current trajectory, I fear there's a chance I may have to miss the wedding. I sure hope not. Prayers and good vibes are most welcome.
This week, I've simply been unable to produce a Random Shots column of the quality I feel you folks deserve. I know it looks like this thing takes five minutes to create, but it actually is quite involved.
As I tried over the last few days, I found myself with angry and stupid takes on stories that didn't seem like me. And yeah, I know my takes are always a little stupid, but these were worse than usual. And I'm hardly ever angry in these.
I thought about trying to force it through, but then, in the end, it just was evident I didn't have it in me this week, even for a "fever dream" version. That might be fun one day, but not in the shape I'm in now.
So I'm asking for your forgiveness here as I need to take a zero on this week's column. Lord willing, I'll be back and ready to go next week. I'll do my best to make it up to you.
I also want to be super clear on this. Something fun like Random Shots is a wildly different animal than actual fantasy football content we've promised. Every single bit of other regular content this week is right on time and better than ever. As I said the other day, I’m just the ringmaster for the circus here. The all-stars are the killer staff we have who create all this great content.
And again, seriously, don't worry about me. I feel confident I'll be back to normal health soon. I just need to take the L this week on Random Shots. Thank you.
