As we race toward August, Footballguys.com will examine one team per weekday with our quick-hitting Team Sleepers feature. These players might not be complete busts, but we will be highlighting players our staff thinks will disappoint this year and underperform their average draft position (ADP).

This is a weekday series that will stretch through August 1. If you like this and want another, come back the next workday. Another will be here.

Please note that our staff has identified the players listed below. The official Footballguys stance for every Patriot can be found on our projections page.

Busts on the New England Patriots

Reasons RB TreVeyon Henderson Could Be a Bust

  • Jason Wood: Henderson has enticing upside, particularly as a big-play option, assuming the Patriots prioritize getting him the ball. But his ADP assumes he'll be a must-start every week player; more likely, he's part of a committee with Rhamondre Stevenson, running behind a rebuilding but still subpar offensive line.
  • Jeff Haseley: Until we get more clarity, expect a split backfield in New England with Rhamondre Stevenson
  • Ben Cummins: Rhamondre Stevenson weighs 231 pounds compared to Henderson's 202-pound frame. And like Henderson, Stevenson is also a good pass catcher out of the backfield. Stevenson is going to play more than most would like.
  • Phil Alexander: No knock on Henderson, who can score from anywhere on the field. But his ADP is tough to justify for a timeshare back on the Patriots.
  • David Zacharias: Rhamondre Stevenson's goal-line touches will suck the air out of Henderson's RB2 ADP balloon.

Reasons RB Rhamondre Stevenson Could Be a Bust

  • Craig Lakins: It's hard to see Stevenson holding off rookie TreVeyon Henderson for very long.
  • Jeff Blaylock: He's the early-down back with pass catchers TreVeyon Henderson and Antonio Gibson on the roster, and Henderson will eat into his early-down opportunities.
  • Hutchinson Brown: TreVeyon Henderson will likely immediately take the passing down role and likely eventually eat a lot of running work.

Reasons WR Stefon Diggs Could Be a Bust

  • Meng Song: A 31-year-old wide receiver returning from a torn ACL on a likely run-heavy offense? What could possibly go wrong?
  • Tipp Major: The "boat tour" stopped in Miami with Stefon Diggs. This shows me that Diggs and Coach Vrabel will match like peanut butter and onions.  I don't think this is the last we hear of an incident involving Diggs, and I don't want that headache on my fantasy squads.
  • Andy Hicks: A fading soon to be 32 year old coming off an ACL on his third team in three years? No thanks.

Reason LB Keion White Could Be a Bust

  • Kyle Bellefeuil: White flashed early and faded into the abyss as the year went on last season. He'll have to earn his stripes with the new staff.

Reason QB Drake Maye Could Be a Bust

  • Maurile Tremblay: ADP presumes a sophomore surge that a still-shallow supporting cast may not deliver, tilting risk over reward.
