Updates from Week 4
Preseason Updates: Quarterbacks
Malik Willis did not play in the team's last preseason game, as many starters were given a rest. The team utilized both Mark Gronowski and Cam Miller in the preseason game against the Falcons, with Gronowski edging out Miller in passing yards, 97 to 71. While it was interesting to see Quinn Ewers not play in the team's final preseason game, the reason is now clear: Ewers was traded to the Jaguars in exchange for Day 3 pick swaps in the 2028 NFL Draft. The team also traded the Packers a sixth-round pick to acquire Kyle McCord, who will serve as the team's No. 2 quarterback.
Preseason Updates: Running Backs
According to Dolphins beat writer Travis Wingfield, the most consistent element of this camp has been the Dolphins' running game, led by Pro Bowl running back De'Von Achane. It isn't just Achane making coaches happy with what they're seeing from the group. Offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik, when asked what he likes about the team's run game, said, "The versatility of what our personnel allows us to do. You can get on the perimeter; you can get on the edge… It's more duo-ish up the middle." The team made a trade for former Rams running back Jarquez Hunter, but released him to get to the 53-man limit. Both Jaylen Wright and Ollie Gordon II missed practice Wednesday, but appear solidified in their backup roles. Neither Achane, Gordon, nor Wright played in the preseason game against the Falcons. The team's leading rusher was Carlos Washington Jr. with 13 carries for 34 yards.
