It's no secret that linebackers remain the true bell cows of IDP rosters. They're the position that can single-handedly make or break your fantasy team even before the first whistle blows. For IDP managers, success isn't just about drafting the next wave of rising stars. It's about skillfully avoiding the landmines, those players who looked great last year but are primed for regression. Of all the linebackers in fantasy football, few sit on thinner ice heading into the 2026-27 season than Miami Dolphins linebacker Tyrell Dodson. After turning in a legitimate career season with eye-popping tackle numbers, Dodson now faces a dramatically altered landscape in Miami. Significant roster turnover, front-office reshuffling, and a new coaching regime have injected major uncertainty into the Dolphins' defensive scheme. What worked under the previous staff may not carry over, and early indications suggest Dodson's snap share and tackle opportunities could take a noticeable hit. Managers beware: what looked like a safe anchor could quickly become a weekly headache. Dodson may give your roster a real scare in 2026.

An Unexpected Leap

Last season was one IDP managers won't soon forget. Dodson entered 2025 already riding the momentum of a strong 2024 campaign that saw him post 107 total tackles and a career-high three interceptions. Many assumed that would be his ceiling. Instead, he shattered it. In 2025, Dodson delivered a true breakout, piling up 129 tackles while establishing himself as a top-five linebacker through the first half of the season. His durability was elite. He missed just one game, and he ranked third among Dolphins defenders in snap share, trailing only the standout Jordyn Brooks and corner Jack Jones. That kind of workload in a productive Dolphins defense paid serious dividends. Even with Brooks finishing as the overall No. 1 IDP scorer, Dodson still cracked the top 15 among all IDPs. Tackle volume, coverage snaps, and occasional big-play ability combined to make him a weekly starter for many championship rosters. On paper, the trajectory looks fantastic. Incremental growth in tackles, expanded role, and proven consistency are exactly the traits fantasy managers chase when building long-term linebacker cores. The numbers scream "buy in" and suggest a player entering his prime with room to climb even higher. But this is precisely where the excitement ends and reality bites. For all the shiny production of the past two seasons, Dodson now finds himself at a dangerous crossroads. New voices in the front office and on the sideline rarely reward the previous regime's breakouts with even bigger roles. What looked like a sustainable foundation may instead prove to be the peak. Welcome to the island of irrelevancy, Tyrell.
