Scouting Report

Drew Allar is a huge, strong-armed quarterback with an up-and-down college career. Coming out of high school in Ohio, Allar was Mr. Football and a three-star quarterback. Once he committed to Penn State, he was regarded as a four or five-star recruit depending on the recruiting site. He saw limited action as a freshman, filling in for blowout duties and some designed packages. He was Penn State's clear starter as a sophomore and junior, and had some buzz ahead of the 2025 NFL draft. Instead of declaring, he returned to school and had a fairly underwhelming season before suffering a season-ending injury in his sixth game.

Allar is physically imposing and has the raw arm talent to make throws all over the field. There are flashes of a player who can elevate an entire offense, but they are few and far between. Allar struggles to work through his reads on time and is too hesitant to let it rip into windows that will translate as open at the NFL level. He attempts to get away with poor mechanics solely on his arm talent, which sometimes leads to erratic throws and timing inconsistencies. You can't teach this kind of size and arm elasticity, but the lack of improvement over two and a half years as the starter is cause for concern.

Rundown

Allar is a project quarterback who will need a coaching staff to clean up his fundamentals before he can play consistent snaps on an NFL field.
