Scouting Report
Eli Heidenreich carved out a role early in his Navy career, one that steadily expanded each season, culminating with 2,555 scrimmage yards and 18 touchdowns over the last two years. Used as a dual-threat rusher and receiver, Heidenreich was the focal point of the team's offense. He leaves Annapolis as the Midshipmen's all-time leading receiver.
Heidenreich played a unique role as the Navy's "snipe" (a versatile hybrid position), moving all over the formation and attacking at every level. He'd line up as a split back and run a go route on one play and take an end-around from out wide the next. His compact frame makes him look smaller than his listed height of six feet. He carries the ball with a punishing style and has the size to be effective on inside runs. While not an elite athlete, he's twitched up enough to run tight routes and create separation. Heidenreich was afforded creative usage that allowed him to amass record-breaking numbers. However, a lack of top-end athleticism will likely prevent an NFL coach from deploying him in a similarly expansive role.
Rundown
Heidenreich's toughness, versatility, and football IQ drove elite production at the college level. Still, his limited athletic upside likely funnels his NFL path through special teams, with only situational offensive usage available.
