Scouting Report

Emmett Johnson was named Minnesota Mr. Football after his senior high school season, where he racked up 2,484 rushing yards, 42 touchdowns, and contributed as an impact safety. He was recruited as a three-star running back, committed to Nebraska, and redshirted his freshman season. He carved out a rotational role over the next two seasons. In 2025, he totaled 1,451 rushing yards (third in FBS) and 370 receiving yards (fourth in FBS). Johnson earned Big Ten Running Back of the Year and consensus All-America honors from multiple outlets.

Johnson is a dual-threat offensive weapon. On the ground, his razor-sharp cuts and excellent footwork allow him to navigate through tight creases. When required, he’ll lower his pads, using impressive leg drive to break arm tackles and move piles. He maximizes what’s blocked for him with an innate blend of patience and suddenness. Johnson led all FBS running backs with 46 receptions in 2025, providing reliability as a pass-catcher. Pass-blocking is his biggest area for improvement, where he often misses assignments. His long speed, while adequate in college, won’t score as often in the pros.

Rundown

Johnson is a decisive, vision-based back who combines patience, suddenness, and balance to consistently gain yards in the running and passing game.
