Johnson is an intelligent runner who likely begins the season as the Chiefs' RB3, but has the skills to finish the year as the RB2. OTA and training camp prognostications of RB depth charts are premature, because NFL coaches know that they don't know what they truly have with running backs until they've seen enough live game action from them.

Emari Demercado is the proven performer. He'll likely earn the RB2 role through September. If he falters or there's an injury, we'll see Andy Reid make incremental changes with each succeeding week until it's clear to Reid that he wants to go in a different direction.

Expect Johnson to be a better choice as a fantasy option by mid-November.

His pass-catching abilities could be PPR gold, hence the upside, but his pass-blocking limitations may limit his snaps, give Emari Demercado the edge as third-down back, and relegate Johnson to Clyde Edwards-Hellaire status.
