Scouting Report
J. Michael Sturdivant's path to the NFL has been unconventional. He's an NFL legacy: His father, Michael, played in the league, and his uncle, Floyd Little, is a Hall of Famer. J. Michael Sturdivant was one of Cal's highest-ranked recruits, ranking as a Top 25 receiver nationally. He redshirted his first season, then led the Golden Bears in receptions as a redshirt freshman, before hitting the portal and landing at UCLA. At UCLA, he carried high expectations, pairing with touted freshman Dante Moore. UCLA fired Chip Kelly before the 2024 season, and Moore transferred to Oregon, disrupting the offense. Sturdivant moved to Florida. He was a secondary piece in a poor Gators passing attack, leaving work to do in the predraft process. Sturdivant is a Shrine Bowl participant, where he has drawn praise for his performance. He is a plus athlete who appeared on Bruce Feldman's 2023 Freak List.
Sturdivant has been a vertical threat throughout his career, with a long frame and a track background. He has struggled with some of the more physical aspects of the position, including blocking and press coverage. His athleticism and NFL pedigree will get him drafted, likely on Day 3 unless he posts an elite Combine performance.
Rundown
Sturdivant was an elite prospect who led California's passing attack immediately after a redshirt season. Multiple portal moves and struggling offenses have prevented him from continuing to develop.
