Scouting Report
Kyron Drones is an experienced quarterback who never quite lived up to expectations at the college level. Originally a four-star recruit, Drones committed to Baylor out of high school. After a redshirt season and another as the backup, Drones entered the transfer portal to head to Virginia Tech. Drones went on to be a three-year starter and two-year team captain for the Hokies. With NFL bloodlines, Drones is Cam Ward's cousin.
Drones has the physical tools that will make any offensive coordinator excited. He's not a shifty runner, but a powerful one when he decides to take off, and has enough dual-threat ability to be part of an effective read option scheme. Despite flashing arm talent, Drones struggles with consistency in both layering throws and controlling his velocity. He can throw the ball with extreme heat, but loses placement when trying to fit the ball into tight windows. Inconsistency and a lack of improvement over three years hold Drones back from a higher draft stock.
Rundown
Drones is an ideal candidate to be a backup quarterback for a team with an established rushing quarterback to allow for a seamless transition in the case of injury.
