Scouting Report
Malachi Fields was a dual-threat quarterback growing up in the shadow of the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. He transitioned to receiver immediately in college, though injuries prevented him from making much of an impact until his junior year in 2023. He starred opposite current Dolphin Malik Washington that season, before stepping into the lead role in 2024. Fields transferred to Notre Dame for the 2025 season, leaving Virginia in the Top 10 for career receiving yards. He quickly became a key receiver for Notre Dame, finishing second in receiving yards.
Fields' size immediately stands out. He's a massive target with excellent play strength. Notre Dame utilized him outside as a downfield receiver, where he showed comfort playing the ball in the air. He can be a significant threat in the red zone. His Virginia usage showed more versatility, as he was featured heavily, creating opportunities after the catch. His background as a quarterback opens the door to trick plays. Fields could sneak into Day 2, though his lack of elite athleticism could serve to limit his draft ceiling.
Rundown
Fields is a massive receiver capable of serving as a downfield threat and a plus blocker. His background as a quarterback shows through with comfort after the catch and field awareness.
